Thank you so much Harry! I did this on one round a few weeks ago and thought I’d found the holy grail but I didn’t realise exactly what I was doing. The next day it was gone and I haven’t been able to find it since. You’ve explained what I was doing like lifting something heavy side on into the back of a Ute. You couldn’t do that unless you squatted first to turn and lift. I had forgotten to squat as my arms said “why bother, I can hit it!” The pause and squat IS the holy grail! I almost wanted to give up but you’ve now explained the move so well, something I can hold on to. I’ve subscribed, thank you again! From Oz. 🇦🇺
Hi thank you for commenting, I’m so pleased this explanation has kept you playing the sport! Keep it going. Golf isn’t easy at all, but that one good shot you hit every round gets you coming back for more… doing this will certainly help. The holy grail! 😎
Aha! I can do that first move. Thanks for the link to this video from the other one! I think it helps that I can do a fair bit of Salsa/Merengue dancing that also require disassociation.
Hi no problem, if you need any further advise regarding the swing let me know, happy to direct you to the relevant videos. if you can do this first move then great, it's just important to make sure you're getting the swing sequence correct when doing this. How long have you worked on this move for?
@@harryshawgolf Since July last year, when I was finally told in my first serious fitting ever (after 24 years of not having a proper lesson) that I should control the low point to be after the ball, LOL. I used to just pick it with zero AoA or a minute scoop, being a happy 17 hcp for the last 15 years or so. Got a drill to transfer the weight to my front leg (initially requiring me to stand on that leg only because it felt so unnatural). That sparked a new drive in me to see how much I could improve with these new fundamentals. But once I got that going I sort of disassociated naturally, although my left rotation is slightly stiffer than my right (PS: also noticeable when skiing)
This is very interesting. It's good that you've managed to pick up on this during a fitting as you can go away and work on this, i've recently replied to another one of your comments advising to focus on two tweaks to help improve the attack angle and control the low point. Try them and let me know how it goes!
Really good job explaining this complicated topic. I know I have struggled with the this and the idea of the trail shoulder going up, and the trail hip going back was like a lightbulb going off. Then, you explained the squat move perfectly…something i just haven’t been able to figure out. I cannot wait to try this tomorrow! Thank you, you’ve earned my like and subscription!!!
Hi thanks for commenting, that’s so great to read you’ve found the lightbulb switch! Yes the squat is a complicated move but can be simplified by helping you understand how to apply the forces using the ground. How did you get on at the range?
Hi Harry, I came across your videos and you‘re doing a great job. I‘ve been following Paul Wilson (PGA in Las Vegas) who has been teaching this kind of swing with only slight differences. I found this approach very helpful but it takes time getting used to. Thanks for your detailed and helpful demonstration.
Hi thanks for commenting, pleased to read you’re enjoying the videos. I haven’t come across Paul Wilson before, will take a look to see his coaching style. Have you managed to give this a try at the range?
Excellent Elvis "swivel hips" demo to start your video Harry! :-) I like your suggestion of the shoulder and hip movement in the backswing and the downward movement of the body and golf club in the downswing. This is what I'm trying to accomplish, but it is slow in coming about. But, I'm not giving up Harry! Well Done Harry! Keep up the good work!
Great video! One of the best in explaining this critical move. One question. During the squat/drop, where is the pressure in the feet? Is this when we shift 80-90% to thr lead foot? Thank you in advance.
Hi, thank you! So for the squat and drop phase you simply want to be pressing into the ground so imagine you’re doing a squat jump - you wouldn’t put more pressure in one foot. So go 50/50 and then as you rotate upwards (chest to target) you’ll find all the weight transfers onto the lead foot.
Excellent as always. Man that is my struggle when I focus on opening hips immediately I come over the top…. So this is something I’m always working on the feeing of “squatting” to start down swing. Just feels clunky….any thoughts on how to smooth it out???
Thank you, it may feel clunky becuase you’re trying to do the moves on stages and it’s something you’re not used to. So when practice this, begin without the golf club in stages, nice and slow, pausing in between, then do the same using the club, keep pausing. Then you can begin implementing this move into one motion and at that point relax your arms, allow the club to fall!
Can you condense a Summary, at the end of the Vid, i get lost with too much back and forward waffle, so just a simple do this ABC at the end will help us Dyslexia folk.
This is a great idea, I do try with small summaries but they are difficult to time for viewers to know when it starts. But I have a solution and hoping to test this soon so when you notice it, please give me your thoughts!

Hi Jason, thanks for your input, I’m always looking for ways to help improve my content. Is there anything else you’d like to see on the channel to help improve your golf? Also if you take a look again, I reveal why you struggle to open your hips at the very start of the video.

Hi John,
Haha thanks, it’s great to hear the progress is slow, it’s still progress, keep going and don’t give up!
Very smart explanations of movements.
Thanks Scott, how’s your golf going?
@harryshawgolf Going ok Harry. Played to a 7 last year. Always working on the game.
Nice, what are you currently working on?

It is easier to adapt when you practice an ever so momentary pause at the top before the shift downward where the club starts to drop.
Hi Brian,
Yes this will certainly be the case when you start trying this, pausing in between the stages helps massively!

@@harryshawgolfI thought every minute of this video was excellent.
too much rambling , not enough demostration......it took 6 minutes just to start the tips demo. good info just too much wasted words
