    Thanks Harry, this explanation of the little squat is brilliant. I had to think “how are you going to jump - you have to go down to go back up” it’s the only way my body will do it. Feeling that pressure into the ground on the tail foot is perfect and pushing off it as well as the lovely wide take away drills. Dead arms coming down makes the whip feel so easy. Terrific teaching style. After all these years and fabulous equipment, people are still struggling with the golf swing and not really getting any better but watching you is going to change that for a lot of us. Thanks again! 👏🏻

    A thorough "walk through" Harry on how to start the downswing with the lower body! I like the wide take away that you are suggesting as well as the "hands down" drill that goes along with it. I like the idea of pushing the arms away from the body on the way back. The "free fall" or "gravity pull" of the club on the downswing is something I've been working on. It definitely adds "nonmanipulative" power to the golf swing. As Usual, Well Done Harry!!

    Even better explanation than the one on disassociation you did Harry. I have the feeling that the push from the trail foot is similar to the effect of a Happy Gilmore shot? If so, I think it will benefit me, because if I do that HG shot, my swing speed goes up a lot. 'Switching off the arms' translates for me as 'stop thinking' and keep my wrists 'dead' to avoid (duck) hook.

      Hi yes, this is a very interesting effect you belivee this has, but. i like it a lot. i suppose you could do a few practice swings in between shots using this technique to be able to implement the added pressure into your actual swing?

      @@harryshawgolf I did pay attention to my right foot pressure in the downswing last weekend on the range. I noticed I do apply some pressure already, but was never conscious of it. Wonderful insight but leads to a vital question: what about the force plate data that shows tour pros shift pressure to lead foot halfway through backswing?

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  Рік тому +1

      They’re able to do this, and this is right, however, it’s the fact that they are so strong and flexible/ mobile they’re able to create huge amounts of separation (increase the X factor stretch) that allow them to do this. If your older, less mobile and struggle with flexibility, you’ll get the upper body following the lower body during this transition move and more likely swing over the top.

    I also have similar question regarding user asking about pros stepping down foot like u described at 12:20. Would you start downswing with your method halfway into backswing? Also, with your method of downswing, wouldn't it have less compression on the ball compared to starting to shift your body to your left/stomping with foot halfway through backswing?

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  10 місяців тому

      So the problem a lot of golfers have when they fire the hips first is that because they're limitations in mobility and flexibility their shoulders follow the hips during the downswing phase. So that’s causes us to get too far over the plane. With this method i'm teaching, the club will force down towards the ball as you push back upwards... give this a try and you'll feel the move taking place.

    I have found today that I can start with my lower body easily (seems to “come naturally”) using my irons but struggle to with my driver. What feels like the same swing that works great with an 8 iron, with driver either results in a pull if I close the club face (which I can) or a slice if I don’t (which I also can), but the elusive straight shot seems to rely on the hands closing the club face just the right amount and I’m sure the inconsistency is due to starting the swing with the upper body. If anything this is worse later on in the round. Any hints on the differences between irons and driver with this?

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for commenting with what you've been working on, yes this is certainly much easier with the irons as you're swinging slower so much easier to time as well as irons being shorter clubs, easier to control. For the long clubs, i'd recommend taking a look at some of the driver videos i've posted, there's a playlist dedicated to driver tips but for you, i think this will come in handy... ua-cam.com/video/XOXzvZgJ2yw/v-deo.htmlsi=zYiIcaXZaFWYz0xK
