@@veronicaue180 In january she did a gig in the Netherlands. She performed for 2 hours, took a 30-minute break and went on for 2 more hours for a new group of fans. She's stronger than a lion!! And guess what? In oktober she does that again!

The funny thing is that Floor is a sweetheart (she's doing some funny videos from home since there's the quarantine and they can't go on tour, and she's all happy riding her horses or gardening) but when she's on stage... she can be scary as fuck, like she could rip your head off with her own hands. If you haven't reacted yet, you must do "7 days to the wolves" from Wembley, the song is so epic that by the end you want to grab an axe and a shield and follow Floor to battle :)
Floor does an open-mouthed "howl" toward the end of that song but she's holding the mike away from her face. You can't hear anything from her and I always wondered if she's actually roaring or if it's just a visual expression. In my own mind, I do hear her howling (perhaps something like "Hannes, it's your turn to do the dishes!").

As someone once commented on another reaction: Floor collects singing techniques like other women collect shoes. And keep in mind, this was the second song of the evening, so after doing this one she sang through an entire concert flawlessly...

Good catch about Floor putting her hands on her thighs when she does the intense “windmills “. Floor explained in and interview that she does that to help relaxe her neck muscles, support her back. AND she has done some proper vical training. She has SERIOUS abs! Muscles all around her abs, ribs and chest. All to very rapidly pull in lungfuls of air and support the breath control to extend the vocals.
And....could we take a minute to go fangirling over her BOOTS!! Thigh high, heeled boots!! She's over 6 feet as is! The heels just bring her over Tuomas and Marko's heads! And the growls are magic!

The thing that really melts my brain... and you guys just went through it... you have a band in Nightwish and composer in Metal Mozart who can write something as beautiful as The poet and the pendulum AND something as heavy as Yours is an empty hope. And they can just switch between them on a playlist seamlessly. if you guys like heavy, I think its time you went for the heaviest song nightwish ever did... Master Passion Greed. Its got Marco on vocals and its Tuomas cutting loose on what the band thought of the guy who destroyed their relationship with the first singer Tarja. You want to see a burn song? See how Nightwish does one.
Might as well do Bye Bye Beautiful as well, since that's the final one of what I call the breakup trilogy about the split with Tarja. There are a couple of live videos with Anette singing, and I'll admit the song is one of her better live efforts, if you're wanting live over studio. That said, for probably 85-90% of Anette-on-vocals songs, you're better off with the studio version.
I always compare Tuomas to Wagner myself.

The thing about Floor - I didn’t know I could feel this much genuine love and affection for a musician. It’s not like with most female singers - not really a lust thing - it’s just a really warm adoring love, a bit like for a mother figure. Nightwish is my safe happy place in dark times 💕
The stage is on board a ship from Finland to Sweden (Helsinki or Turku to Stockholm).
Floor is such an incredibly skilled singer that she probably knows the right techniques to use when she growls so that she doesn't stain her voice at all.

Little known fact is that while floor Jansen can definitely do growled vocals she chooses not to unless a song demands it because she doesn't want to damage her vocal chords or do something that would prevent her from reaching her operatic notes at least that is what she has said

This song is a nicely wrapped up tutorial on predominant styles to sing Metal. :))) Including that alluring siren stuff that half of us did not know existed. :) I gotta give props to the composer for knowing exactly what he was doing, when he got Marco to sing that chorus in a high, rising voice - to underline who's doing the BOSS growl! With numerous vocalists in a band, the effect might get lost, but not here! So much fun watching reactors figure out that the cleans are all Marco. \m/ \m/
And, yeah a detail - the very beginning of the show, so your comment on how she was going to sing 15-16 more songs is pertinent... except she did "the Poet and the Pendulum", "7 Days to the Wolves", "The Greatest Show" and many more in the 2 hours after. Floor has sung with voiceless cold on some occasions (a touring musician's life...), but she said in the interviews, the muscle memory would help and when they were on, the voice would come through. The woman is a pro's pro!

Legit question for Suzi: when you listen to Tati from Jinjer do you get the impression something is off about her scream? When Dani or Floor do it, it sounds the same... Like a woman's voice doing the Metal scream. When Tati does it it sounds exactly like a man. I can't wrap my head around how that deep sound comes out of that tiny little person.
Practice, alot of practice im assuming.
Tatiana uses different techniques, she does different types of growl so she doesn't always sound the same... For example Corey Taylor does the same in Slipknot whereas Mikael from Opeth only does deep low growls (as far as I know). I've never heard Floor doing distorted screams before like Tatiana does.
And also... Tatiana does a looot of growling/screaming so she knows how to tone it by positioning her tongue, mouth shape, etc. just as Floor does with belting... it just takes a ton of practice to be able to pull stuff like this off... even if you have perfect pitch or so.
@@sovex9331 I'm not sure what you're saying. Floor growled for years on multiple songs at every show (and rehearsal) fronting ReVamp, and was a professional vocal coach with expert technical/anatomical knowledge of what is healthy/unhealthy.
Listen to Floor on Revamp's Wildcard, and then compare to Dani Terror on Wolfhunterz Reap What You Sow... That's what skilled female growls sound like. Tati is somehow doing a perfect impression of a deep male growl.
For the most part, Floor's growls are not that deep, especially during her ReVamp time. Yet listen to the last growl here and it's pretty deep. When she had a guest spot with Soilwork, she got ridiculously deep (C2 - D2 according to the pitch analyzer on my phone), but it was hard to pick out her sound as she was backing the lead singer at the time. Both however are on the same pitch. I get the impression from listening to Floor that she isn't a really big fan of the technique and I know that Tuomas is not a fan of it. Their motto is always to do what the song requires and nothing more. I'll need to see the song performed live, to be 100% certain but at the 1:20 mark of "Tribal" it sounds like Floor, backed by Marko, is using a considerable amount of distortion, so much so, that it takes a close listen to realize that it is Floor.
To me Tatiana's screams have a definite female quality most of the time.

If you want to see the multi tasking talent of Nightwish onstage watch "Weak Fantasy" from Wembley. Marko plays his bass with a guitar added to it, he plays both WHILE singing and transitions between them, also Floor, Marko AND Troy sing at the same time.
When Floor goes full Metal Valkyrie like this, I think the audience needs a safe word.

She explained why she puts her hands on her legs mostly while banging. Because she is also singing opera and classical music, she needs to support her neck more, since she needs these muscles to reach high chest and headvoice notes.

Floor is writing some music for a solo release since the covid crisis is giving her time on her hands to write music. She was jokingly saying it is gonna be brutal black and death metal mix. It is actually going to be very little metal she admitted after the joke. First time she did death metal growling was in her project ReVamp where she controlled the music, cause it was her project. She did death metal growl on that album because she wanted to master another art of singing. She has admitted it is hard to master without turning hoarse in the process
