I open UA-cam after a long day, ready to punch in a movie (there are many available here!), and what do I get recommended but 30 Quick Facts About Ana de Armas You Probably Didn't Know. I'll relate my findings in the next video. I still can't believe dice said vernacnac. The Jimothy Cool cast I was on: ua-cam.com/video/NhRCWW7alPo/v-deo.html The UD thread mentioned in the video: www.smogon.com/forums/threads/spl-9-team-dump-review.3633122/
The sequence at 1:29 where the Gliscor reveals Power Herb Sky Attack into an Abomasnow switch AND MISSES is a roller coaster of emotions I haven't experienced in quite some time. Masterfully done, BKC.
As of 10am pst the next day, showdown is still down. However, the teambuilder is functional now, so we can at least exercise our brains by making some new teams!
I can't not focus on the end of the video about "learning when to stop and step away". As someone who competed in many games and many genres who also has the unluck of having quite the list of debuffs(mental illness/issues). I find it very hard to stop even though I know I need a break from something and by the time I do it's way too late and something ended up happening.
I've took breaks from tiers I had BMS from, 3 things can happen. 1: you see it in a new light like whats in the video. 2: you're right, or at least its not worth being potentially wrong when trying new stuff and instead bunkering in boring balance stuff. 3: its so much worse and goofier in hindsight. my favorite example is early gen 9 little cup when diglett was legal. the meta was either single trapper with imposter zorua that speed ties everything and threatens them all, or double trapper with gothita. I had a double trapper webs team that was hilarious.
Unrelated to Pokémon, but I defo did some BMS for games I played seriously. I’d find a way to either win with gimmicks or play in stupid ways One example of this would in OSU!Mania a few years ago. I got so bored of the game I did everything from playing on a controller to with just three fingers. Eventually I did just take a break and came back and it was for the better. Glad it’s recognized in other games as well
ODDS AGAINST TOMORROW (1959) THE SUSPENDED STEP OF THE STORK (1991) THE ASSASSIN (1961) THE CLOUD-CAPPED STAR (1960) DEMON POND (1979) THE BEAST SHALL DIE (1959) A DIFFICULT LIFE (1961) THE CASTLE OF SAND (1974) A GEISHA (1953) THE DEMON (1978) THE TRIAL OF JOAN OF ARC (1962) PRESSURE POINT (1962) LANDSCAPE SUICIDE (1986) AKA SERIAL KILLER (1975)
This video does a great job in explaining the basis behind great players making unsound team making decisions due to disillusionment with a current metagame. What you said about forcing the issue vs decompressing and stepping away is spot on. This form of mental hygiene is a good virtue to practice in any domain.
Great video! And honestly makes a ton of sense. Even if you are laddering all the time. Gotta step away from seeing the same thing over and over again!!
Gonna disagree. Gens 3 and 8 specifically are notorious for how their metagames are still evolving. I'd argue something like Jynx is way better in 8 than something like Zarude tbh.
What does jynx even do? I get that the meta is hostile to zarude with u-turn on any pokemon it can theoretically switch in to along with fire, ice, fairy, fighting and flying moves being fairly common but jynx loathes u-turn as well as the ubiquitous knock, 95 speed is rough and it's only redeeming quality, spamming ice beam and freeze dry, can be done by atails if that's so necessary, weavile is far scarier to switch in against and cloyster can use special moves as well with shell smash.
So what you're saying is that being in the same meta game generation for too long is like being gay in prison, you start to see that NU mon a little different when you keep seeing it over and over?
L take. Without exploring all options available and testing out your theories on niches certain Pokémon potentially can fulfill, then there’s no fun to be had, no depth to explore, no potential surprises to catch your opponent off guard The game you showcased in the video is actually a lot more of a close game than you think. The Sky Attack miss was the crucial turning point, and even then he played very well through it. Had he switched to Scizor on the opposing Scizor’s bullet punch, he probably would’ve been able to take the win Granted I’m not an expert in DPP OU, but I do like to experiment with lower tier Pokémon in SV OU and I’ve actually achieved some pretty great results, and I think a player better than me can unlock a their true potential

Unprompted but whenever my friends use obscure words we says they’re “smokin that wacky vernaccy”
i've also seen "lost in the sauce" in fighting games for when people focus too much on new combos and tech so they neglect the simple reliable stuff
lost in the sauce is very common slang for "forgetting the basics"

incredible cinematic experience, entirely fresh and unique
my stomach dropped out seeing it live!
I would of quit right there lol
@@BKCplaysPokemonI don't blame you
Today, Dr. BKC diagnoses me after I insist that Choice Band Swampert is the future of ADV for several months
Who needs leftovers when you're immune to sandstorm anyways
So sad to hear Steve Jobs died of BMS.
Who's ligma?
Who's Steve Jobs?
What's sad?
Joe Mama!
What's BMS
And here I was thinking it stood for Byes Mide Shut (1999). Thanks for the clarification Mr. Chicken. 👍
Sad way to find out Jimothy Cool died of biron mugulis syndrome
Who is False Swipe Gaming?
Shall we have a moment of silence for Levitate Gengar?
Gengar deserved it
No
Nah I think even if Gengar still had levitate it would be bad. Dragapult just does what it does and more
Would be such a strong tusk answer, only knock off would be scary
Ooooooh, the "You've been playing too much/long syndrome". That fine line between heat and vague insanity sure is something else.
BKC is encouraging us to take healthy breaks, and ps has been down all day today
Has it?
Mass dopamine withdrawls sweep the Smogon forums

Yea the first step to fixing your problem is to log off and go outside
Ryan Gosling Syndrome
This video is very timely as me and my friend kept playing national dex uu for about 5 month. And one day I told him we should use naclstack.
Fine line between genuine innovation and BMS
It’s funny you’re posting this a week after I tried out Quick Feet Ursaring on the DPP OU ladder
Missed sky attack on abamasnow was shiest
bellibolt in OU moment
Similarly, Probopass in OU moment
We’ve gotten like 6 videos in a row mentioning UD; can we get a video about his contributions?

Hey BKC, I almost always listen to your videos while doing other tasks (such as work or driving).
Just thought you would want to know.

My biggest case of BMS was probably when I tried DragMag in ADV, got some wins but looking back nah
Whats this 15min short video from bkc? Its like im trying to poo but only drop some little pee leaks

Shoutout to Ciri at the beginning of the video for the Jojo references
