- Looking for an EASY way to clean silver at home without any scrubbing or harsh chemicals? Watch this video to learn how to clean your silver platters, utensils, and serving pieces using household items. All you need is baking soda, salt, aluminum foil, and hot water.
MATERIALS
Baking soda
Salt
Aluminum foil
Tongs
Optional: toothbrush
DIRECTIONS
Measure out 1-2 gallons of water in a large pot (I often use 2 gallons to fill up the large side of my sink)
Heat the water to boiling
Place a stopper in the sink, and then lay down one sheet of aluminum foil
For every gallon of water, add 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of salt to the sink
Once the water is boiling, pour it into the sink (note: the mixture will react and begin to bubble)
Use the tongs to stir and dissolve the baking soda and salt into the water
Use the tongs to add silver to the water
Note: the silver item needs to touch the aluminum foil to allow transfer of the tarnish
Let the silver item sit for 1-2 minutes, turning with tongs if needed
BE CAREFUL - the water is super hot
Remove item for the water using tongs
Repeat this process for as many items as needed
It there is still stuck on tarnish, you can create a paste of baking soda and water and gently scrub with a soft cloth or soft toothbrush
To add a little shine to the pieces, spray with Windex or a mixture of vinegar and water and buff with a soft cloth
Rinse the silver pieces and dry with a cloth

Thank you! I watched other videos but yours was actually not only informative but helped with a better way to do.
Thanks so much for this information. My silver platter looks like new and it was so easy to do!
Great video thank you so much .
Thank you for this video it worked wonders!!!
A lot of ungrateful here! Thanks darling for your kind help! Much love!
Thanks for sharing
Great , thank you .
Thank you so much. I have several pieces I need to work on, so I was looking for a great solution such as this.
Thank you for this video. With a little extra cleaning after soaking my silver came out beautiful. I would have never gotten it this nice without your video.
Glad I could help!
thanks
Thanks for the well done video. I like the text pasted on top of the demonstration of the process. The video was very methodical and clear once it got beyond the initial chitchat that I usually skip. Very helpful! Thank you. ☀️
Thanks Katherine WhoKnows 💗glad it was helpful for you!
This looks super simple! Going to try it! Thank you!!
You look JUST LIKE Melissa Joan Hart! Except she's blonde. And thanks for the tip. Works great!
The way some of y'all talk, you expect her to devise the method, impart the knowledge, credit you extra time in your day, come to your houses and clean your silver for you, and leave a chocolate on your pillow.
Chill out. Life's too short to be this impatient all the time.
💯Amen!
Thank u you are fast…
I just did it and worked perfectly. Thanks for the video.
That is awesome!
BTW, thanks for the info! I have some seriously tarnished pieces I need to polish tomorrow, for this weekend. Looks like I can get it done without all the nasty chemicals, or a trip to the store (or waiting for Amazon to deliver them!)
Definitely worth the 7 1/2 minutes of my time. Ignore the impatient ones, they're likely constipated and cranky, or just haven't learned the world, at large, doesn't revolve around them. Their mamas must be so proud at how ungracious they are, too.
Bar keepers friend works Wonders
now i understand why people in the 1960s and beforehand had silver polishing parties haha
To store silver, I’ve found that if you cover it in plastic wrap, so that it doesn’t get touched by air, it will last a lot longer without tarnishing.
Your helping your sink to leak. Very Hot water that stays longer in your sink will damage the rubber sealant in your sink hole.
Whats the foil for
Do you ( or any of your subscribers) have a way to protect the silver from tarnishing so quickly ? Thank you again for this video saved my arm, wallet & the time omg!!!
Yes!! You can store in an airtight plastic bag....the air is what tarnishes the silver. I keep all my silver rings in a plastic bag and it works really well.
How do you keep your sliver from getting tarnished mine looks good for an few months and then the tarnished with in another week or so
Use dawn dish soap it works great
what a gab!
Loved you on Clarissa Explains it all and Sabrina the Teenage witch... . ;) You ever hear you look like M.J.H.?
What if you sink is not big enough or you don’t have a container large enough???
You should buy a bigger house immediately.
I don't think I would do the Windex, or the vinegar suggestions.
It will remove the silver from the item by dissolving it.
I think I would suggest just baking soda and warm water.
What about a light coat of food grade mineral oil?
What a pretty girl.
Becareful when doing this, and always do it in a well ventilated area. The smell of rotten eggs is the result of Hydrogen Sulfide.
I swear to God I thought this was Melissa Joan Hart for like 5 min
She dosent know this method also removes some of the silver plate as well as the tarnish
There’s a big mistake you’re sink is metal you should buy a big glass cleanning bowl. Metals beside silver & aluminum should not be added & results in unexpected results like silver plating your sink or adding sink metals. I can’t emphasize how big mistake it is plastic utensils thongs too.
Silver won't plate to a stainless steel sink, but you're right on with the bowl. A stainless steel sink will probably inhibit the reduction of tarnish to silver.
List the ingredients tmi
Wright’s silver paste would have polished that tray in less than two minutes. This technique is far too time consuming.
This method still stinks terribly because hydrogen sulfide gas is still released in the process. The polishing pastes contain exactly the same ingredients. The Aluminium is in powder form in the paste and hence more readily available compared with the Aluminium foil method. By all means, the paste should actually work better, but likely costs a lot more.
This method Does Not stink.
My Daddy my Beauty thank you ; By the way you do look like my Daughter i do not see may i be adopted as a second Mom?😍🌹🥰
I have heard baking soda is not good for your silver. It takes layers of silver off much more than silver cleaner. In fact, I heard never, never, ever use baking soda. Ever.
I feel like it took you a really long time to say this
You never use plastic toothbrush nylon brush etc on silver or silver plate. It scratches the fuck out of them darling.
shes an android.
Toooooo much talking... unnecessary talking.
Good god, get to the point! What is wrong with youtubers? Are you suppose to talk for a specific time?? It's so friggin annoying when you're looking something up in a hurry. There's always too much needless talking. Hate that so continue looking for shorter videos that tell the exact same thing in 30 seconds. 99 percent of youtubers don't get to the point until the end of the video! Unnecessary yapping, words not worth hearing that just piss people off. So annoying.
I 💯 agree
Hahahahahah I feel it
Wel said
There's a 100 videos on this and they all roughly take the same amount of time if not longer. She was actually one of the shorter ones, but to help with your impatience you can always fast forward through these videos by tapping on the right of the video... hope this helps! And to Cheryl, good job! Helped me very much.
I agree!! No need to be so damn narsisstic, just get to the point!!
You do know you have donuts in your pupils? Check your lighting circles. Once I spotted them, they are the only thing I could see besides your teeth.
Ok weirdo.
Creeper
Wtf... other then a 9/10 on the creep scale, I had no idea someone who posted 2 short 20 to 25 second Trump rallys videos could also be an expert in video production techniques.... wait maybe it does make sense.... Find something else to polish instead of critiquing others who make useful content.
You sound like you’re gonna cry LOL what’s wrong you’re too pretty to be sad
BLAH BLAH BLAH
Girl, you talk too much!!
Way too long.
