Did this with pieces of my silver jewelry. Worked beautifully in no time at all. Couldn’t possibly clean them this thoroughly with polish. Cheap and effective.
Thanks for sharing! I'm new to crafting with jewelry and have a few pieces of my personal plated findings that I need in order to finish up my projects that I'm going to be selling at our local market for the first time tomorrow! You saved me! Thanks again and have a great day.
I cleaned my silver and it took longer than I wanted to stand arround, so I thought I would cover it with the foil and let it stand, it wasnt a minute then it was clean. Something happened when I coverd it with the foil, I then threw thew the whole lot in the zink with the foil because it was hot, its a metal zink, then the action took place again,it was instantly spotless. Then I noticed that I used backingpowder , first try with mistakes but it worked like a bom. Thanks be blessed.
Does this work with “Pearl silver plate”?? I’ve never heard of Pearl silver plate until today when I tried to clean something that I got on FB Marketplace. It was a silver tarnished item and when I went to use my usual silver cleaner...2 different kinds..nothing happened. The guy said it was Pearl silver plate! What the heck is this? I don’t get it, I’m so annoyed right now. Can anyone help?
Wouldn't it occur to you to turn it over? A little salt usually helps ckean silver ( unsure about silver plate. Rub it down/ dry with a soft cloth or silver cloth.
Then the soda wouldn't get to it. Nothing wrong with the video, its a solution as old as the hills. But, the articles need to be swilled about a bit. Not sure how long the soda was allowed to interact with the aluminium.
Could you just use a aluminum pot to begin with instead of aluminium foil ? Because aluminum seems to be the key that cleans. I've done it your way it does amazingly well but does the foil needs to touch all surfaces. Just wondering it's been months ago I tried this.
If you are using an aluminum pot in these days, you are damaging your brain, The reason why Club Aluminum is GONE is that cooking in Aluminum was harmful in a big way.
@@bonniewolf447 thanks I am aware of what it can do. It's old from collecting and selling antiques. I don't use them. From childhood the damage us already done. Lol.
This is a TERRIBLE way to polish fine silver. It turns the metal gray over time. Please use a silver polish for silver only, not a general metal cleaner. Wright's is great, and so is Hagerty's foaming silver polish. Metal tongs on solid silver are also a terrible idea. Solid silver is soft and easily scratched.
Yes solid silver is one thing... plated is another... when you use polish you are actually removing silver ... on a plated piece that probably already has loss you can’t afford to rub off more... this method doesn’t remove the silver from the piece... I use this method for my vintage Gillette razors and they buff up just fine... I wouldn’t want to keep rubbing away my fine silver to nothing over time...
@@Deadbuck73 , this method is terrible for BOTH silverplate and sterling (solid silver), so I'm not sure what your point is. Razors? Are they plated with silver? Anyway, I've seen so many pieces of silver ruined by machine polishing (Also known as "professionally polished") and this chemical method of stripping silver. Use a little effort and do it correctly with Wright's or Hagerty's. Hagerty's foaming silver polish is designed to be especially gentle.
Chris h. It’s less evasive for plated silver... you’re removing the tarnish without removing the silver.. so I’m not sure how this is going to ruin the piece you’re cleaning... yes... indeed vintage Gillette razors... three piece razors that were originally plated in silver... others in gold and some in chromium... they use double edge blades... and give superior results to the overpriced over bladed plastic contraptions of today... anyways... you do you... I’ve had great results using this method to renew antique razors and other pieces... with no damage to the existing plating.

Appreciate the video! Cleaned 8 pieces, worked great. Thanks for everyone's comments as well.
Worked great in my silver-plated flatware! Thank you!
It works guys go for it!
A Phenomenal Well Thought Out Video All The Very Best To You In Life.
It does work... you need to add a lot more soda..
a tip: watch movies at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching lots of of movies recently.
@Mack Alfonso Definitely, I have been watching on Flixzone for years myself :D

Hello Idol New freind here
Watching from Bohol Philipines
Thank you for sharing idol
Great job
Are you SURE this is OK for
silver-PLATED items, please?
Thanks 🙏
It didn’t turn out very pretty- so I’m going to keep looking for a way
@@glion7792 thanks
wish you show how to clean gold plated dishes also, you make it very easy,
I've tried this with tarnished flatware. They came out DULL, so I still needed to add polish & buff to a shine.
Yeah I dip them like this w salt soda foil..but then buff w flitz silver polish white rouge and an electric buffer and a few wheels
Sir how is utensils of steel polish silver please sir
Worked well thanks
Was this filmed in the Twin Peaks universe?

if you use Tide instead of baking soda, you don't have to boil water. I've been doing that for many years! (with aluminum etc)
is it a geiger counter i can hear?
Probably the autofocus on the camera.
The amount of baking soda should be added in twice quantity
Thank you
This worked for some jewelry that I have, and for some did nothing! It even made them darker???
Cause its fake jewelry
I clean mine like this and they shine like a mf
Wouldn't it occur to you to turn it over? A little salt usually helps ckean silver ( unsure about silver plate. Rub it down/ dry with a soft cloth or silver cloth.
If you had added some salt (the same amount of baking soda), it would have been faster and cleaner.
Really??
you want everything to disappear on it's own ? I wanna see it shine . use that cloth
This can pit silver and why this isn't recommended.
Thank you!
I use baking soda, salt, hot water and vinegar
Vinegar and soda will neutralize each other.
What about wrapping the piece with foil first
Then the soda wouldn't get to it. Nothing wrong with the video, its a solution as old as the hills. But, the articles need to be swilled about a bit. Not sure how long the soda was allowed to interact with the aluminium.
Is this dangerous to our respiratory.
It works
I'd be careful using old plated silver. It removed all the silver plating from an old dish I had!
I have a piece of silver plated I want to do, I think it is. A magnet isn't sticking to it. I used vinegar and it turned dark. Uuggh
It didn’t look very pretty- I’m going to keep
Looking.

You would then have to scrub the transfered tarnish from the pot.
Silver plated?
No
Not in plated

Add more baking soda.
You need to add salt
This is hilarious! I think it needs to soak about 10 more hours.
Shouldn't you be adding vinegar?
Doesn't water ruin silver plate
NO, water doesnt ruin silver plate..just dry it off..silver doesnt react with water
it didn't really work for me
Me neither.
Did for me
Wow!
Do you put the shinny side down with the tinfoil?
The shiny side of the aluminum has to be on top
I don’t think I trust using this method on silver plate
I've done it a hundred times with my silverplate utensils and it works! You do have to rinse and then wipe the pieces.
It didn’t look very nice- I think I’ll keep looking- maybe should have stirred the ingredients? Thanks.
what was that clicking sound???

Geiger counter.
A little frustrating to watch. Agitate the bowl to swill the reagents around, bringing fresh mix onto the surfaces!
Aim clean with na cl you give idea from test with baking soda
don't use metal tongues, use plastic or rubber.
i use toothpaste. works much better then this method and faster.
And that doesn't scratch your silver, that's awfully abrasive
Indian Tide washing powder or Colgate tooth paste works better.
Vent the room tho. The smell is terrible.
