whenever I get a blu-ray of a movie I have on dvd, if i can, I put the dvd disc inside the blu ray case and throw out the dvd paper and keep the plastic case. I really want that simpsons movie bluray with a yellow case.
Oh man it’s a project I’ve been wanting to do for a long while, and I still ran out of cases. After that flood I’ve been hyper focused on making my standard releases a little more unique. One of the things that always stuck in my head was on some of those playboy mansion documentaries Hef would show off his movie collection, and he threw away all the VHS covers and used these tan colored clamshell cases. Something you’d see at a rental store. While I would never throw away the VHS covers always thought it looked sharp!
I do the same with my collection! I started by replacing the cases that were damaged but then started to combine my owned blurays with my 4k’s that never included the bluray in the first place… makes the releases feel more complete!!
That’s even better so many times the special features don’t make it to the next release. The Hellboy dvd had special features that are only on the DVDand really should have been included in later releases.
It’s a good idea to customize when you have damaged Blu-Ray cases, it’s important to upkeep your collection I might consider replacing my Blu-Ray cases in the future 😊
Best way to save money is to upgrade as you go. I forgot to mention in the video, for me it was easy to replace new stuff coming in and ones I was rewatching.
I’ve been creating my own custom covers for a while now. Mostly to get my dvds into blu ray cases so everything looks uniform on the shelf. I don’t mind the eco cases. I usually grab blu rays from dollar tree to reuse the cases. Been wanting to get the clear cases for my custom criterion covers. Also branching out into custom artwork for slipcovers.
@@chadhagar3726 That’s awesome! Took me a while to dive into customization but at the end of the day it’s my collection and we all do things and collect differently, I think it should reflect that. Plus I hated when they stopped using painted movie poster art and started photoshopping everything.
@@HomeCinemaEnthusiast Ive always thought so, hopping more people start getting into it maybe more colors one day! Wishful thinking I know, but DVD cases came in tons of colors.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed, I’ve been into movies my whole life and collecting for over 25 years. It starts small and before you know it you’re finding creative ways to store them all. Since you’re new here, what is your favorite movie or genre?
My favourite movie (which I always say is not what I think is the BEST movie of all time, just my favourite) is the Hangover, to me it's the perfect blend of funny and mystery and all around dumb fun. I love the comedy genre. Also unrelated but I love HBO and I've got HBO's Watchmen on blu-ray, season 1 of Westworld, and Season 1 of togetherness.
been case switching for yearssss now. put a red case on my cherry falls release along with a few other valentines horror movies. lol also clear cases go on all my scream factory releases that don't have slips! glad i'm not the only one! lol
Great to hear man, red cases are harder to come by I wish we could get those in bulk. Clear cases on Scream Factory top notch! Which one really stands out now with a clear case?
I love this idea!! I have been replacing the cases of all my barbie movies with pink ones over the years but other than that I haven't utilized cases to customize my collection yet. I really like the idea of putting all your disney films in white cases. (Though the disney DVDs I grew uo with actually all came in dark blue) I have disney movies across different mediums so i feel like having them all be the same color would be so satisfying. I also low key just hate the fact that blurays come in the standard blue case and every few months I have a moment where I am thinking about throwing out all my blue cases and replacing them with a less offensive color (I only have about 50 blurays), though so far I haven't actually committed to that project...
It really is overall satisfying to make your collection something that not only looks nice but highlights some unique pieces. As far as making all the Disney ones white, they really look sharp. 50 is a a manageable number especially if you plan ahead as you add new titles. I’ve been collecting for a very long time so I’ve been replacing the eco cases as I rewatch the films or when new ones come in. Doing a few a week was easier on the wallet.
I've noticed recently that some of the trays used in certain cases are incredibly shallow and have sharp edges. Have to be extra careful placing discs in without scratching them :/
I’ve noticed that too, haven’t had any issues with scratches. The problem I have is the shallow trays no matter how carful I am the discs fall or pop out! A must replace.

These look great, but I’m one of the space-saving heathens who use flat plastic slip sleeves and drawers. It makes me feel like I’m thumbing through albums or comic books
Thanks, and I say be a heathen we each collect differently its all about what best suits us. I see some joy out of that method especially since I spent my youth thumbing through media that way. What would be cool I think is if there was a an apothecary style cabinet that they could all fit in. Reminds me of looking for books at the school library using the Dewey Decimal system, butt those cabinets were ugly haha.
What I hate most about the eco cases, is the extreme gaslighting, and the greenwashing done by the companies. The punched out holes in the ♻️ shape is the most offensive and condescending thing I've ever seen. They aren't doing that to save the environment. They're doing that to save money. And gaslighting people while they're doing it. There are ways to use less plastic, that actually makes sense. Such as on packaging that you throw away. Or water bottles, or whatever else that gets thrown out. But not on something that people actually keep.
Exactly I've always said if they truly cared we'd go back to the older packaging or glass bottles. In my life time I remember purchasing said products. We still had waste in the 80s and 90s, but it didn't feel as much as now. The very first Blu-ray I bought with an eco case waas A Nightmare On Elm Street, and those were my thoughts not fooling anyone.
