I'm a physical movie collector, dvd, blurays, 4k, another advantage over streaming is dvds unlikely to be edited when they are on streaming, case in point Fawlty towers, Love thy neighbour, old shows like those will never be shown on streaming uncut

Yeah all the old sitcoms are best having on dvd, can't beat the the whole lot in a boxset.

I've been building up a good collection of DVDs in recent years, yes, Blu Ray is better quality, but they lack any substantial extras, where DVDs can be packed with BTS docs and the likes.
I can see DVD going the way of vinyl and coming back in popularity, get them whilst they're cheap.

I still love collecting DVDs and blurays because it’s getting annoying how expensive subscriptions are getting, plus like you say sometimes you can’t find content or it’s paywalled

Charity shops for dvds and blu rays. Can't go wrong. For the ones that don't show up in charity shops it's CEX.

I'm a long term film fan. - I worked in cinemas for near a decade, and before that ran a video shop for about a year. I always preferred physical media as it allows me to watch what I want, when I want, without paying a fee each time. Charity shops are great for DVD's, Blu-ray's at great prices. I have often picked up entire box sets of series for less than the price of a new DVD single film. Currently I have around a thousand titles on DVD, and about an equal number of books. - The most I have paid was around £50, for a box set of (?) Supernatural series 1 to 8, most single DVD's are around 50p or £1, sets are £1 to £10.

The movie also showed a home with a very large vinyl record collection and they were listening to music during the internet outage. leave the world behind definitely “highlighted” the physical media importance.

Physical media is key for movies, otherwise they could be “remastered” or censored in the future. Look at ET and Star Wars.

I had that notion years ago about dvd. If I have them physically I can back them all up and I'll always have them. Have around 1300 dvds including movies and tv shows. Its fantastic. The girlfriend went to rent A Nightmare On Elm Street this week, said it cost €10. I bought the entire collection for €15 and can watch any of them, anytime and forever. If you like specific movies/tv shows its a no brainer to me. Similar idea with physical games

I have a physical collection of dvd, blu ray and 4k because as like you say if internet went off then you still have things to watch. Also the fact that films appear and disappear regularly across the streaming services plus no one can really afford to subscribe to every service and it's also cheaper to have a collection, although it's a case of having room to store them.

I started collecting DVD, Blu-ray & 4K UHD this year after being aware that streaming prices were going up, films/TV was spread over fragmented services and censorship / removal of content or music was occuring on streaming service versions. I collect 4K UHD first, but ill get a Blu-ray if the other isnt available, and sometimes ill get a DVD on a 6x for £1 deal in a charity shop if its rare.

I love Movies and have been collecting Movies that I love and have a special meaning for me for over 30 years and I'm not the type of person who gets the 4K UHD into the house but the good old DVD and for my all-time favorites from the 80s and 90s, the Bluray is more than enough for me to enjoy because I grew up with most films from those decades. The image quality on the DVD doesn't bother me that much because with certain older films I don't have to see it super sharp and i have only 55 inches 4K TV.

  • @Omar_Little

If you are collecting tv/film media for actually watching (not wanting a nice shelf or wall of stuff), just torrent it and keep everything on a hard drive that plugs into your tv.
If you want a bit of effort you can even set up a NAS and access your media anywhere. But plug and play usb hard drives work fine too. I have about 10TB of film and tv shows at the moment, ready to watch.
Basically everything you complained about VHS, applies to disc media too in a smaller way.
Better Quality, more stable medium, easier to backup, easier to play anywhere, less space taken up, and best of all... it's free.

I have a massive dvd collection of films and tv shows and Michael Jackson and a massive Disney dvd collection and doctor who dvds because not everything is on streaming service and when u buy dvd u own it because these streaming apps take stuff away from u and dvds r great for when u r in the ich to wach that tv show or film and these streaming services dont have it or u got to pay extra monny to watch it on streaming but with dvds u can walk to your dvd shelf and put on your dvd player and enjoy it. 😊

What ive been doing is buying sealed dvds and dvds for my collection from my local charity shop 10 for 1 pound I will then swap the new cases with the ones I have in my collection so it feels like a new dvd. The movies get taken down all time and put on to another streaming service which I always find annoying and if your like me and like a lot of small b movies horror movies they don’t always have everything on it

Yeah in an apocalypse a portable DVD player, a handheld or a phone with digital rips of files as backups. But yeah new ones whether DVD, Blu ray, 4K BRs or the Chinese format I saw of Tech Moan covered of San Andreas the action film with the rock Dwyane Johnson that's format quality worse than DVD I think. It's worth a watch.
I buy anime DVDs/Blu rays. Not many from thrift/second hand stores but more new releases rarely with series I am actually interested in. Pricey but betythrn online searching unless overseas anime films that don't go to the services or disk and waiting compared to the tv series all because of sales it's annoying we would support it but nope they won't do so.
Only the biggest IPs get a cinema and even then those that could sometimes get 1 cinema....... Just get the physical or look online instead or give up supporting or seeing it at all unless searching for it.
PSP Minis for sure are great of Indies offline then PSN and dead once Vita/PS3 stores go offline.
But yeah 480p yeah on 32 inch I this fine but yeah bit rate or resolution and more are great on physical not streaming.
Some are hard to find, for cheap old ones. New releases it varies.
For me for anime I have to buy them new as I see them cycling in the really small shelf while live action/western shows are more reasonable ones.
Heard of a few you mentioned some well known, some.niche.
Yeah the prices, the sub prices, demand to watch them, in the shelf, cheap and whenever ready.
Getting portable DVDs or the file digitally offline why not.

Unfortunately a large chunk of UK TV releases tend towards DVD over BD. Not everything but the less big shows need importing (and of course if not Region free require a multi-region).
Thankfully I have a cheap BD player for my bedroom projector that has a multi-region hack but it's a pain not being able to watch in the main room on the PS5 is a pain!
