- The Chieftain V5 Low D has become one of the great low Ds of our time. When I look back at this track, I can still feel the usabillity of this instrument. It did what I asked it to do and still some! Try one, you may like it.

I'm a long time tin whistler. I play tons of slow airs. But I think this has to be the most beautiful I've ever heard. It really touches my heart. A true masterpiece. 👏🏻👏🏻
I've just come to whistling at 72 years old and practising hard on my Killarney High D. But having heard your superb beautiful, haunting and hypnotic Syrian Lament I think a Chieftain V5 Low D is next on my wish list.Thanks, Phil.

hey mister Kerry, i got one of your low D whistles, it is one with the tunable mouth piece, black synthetic. i paid around 150 euros for it, i think the store was Thomann. the sound is really awesome. thank you for sharing your skills to make instruments for other people. ♥ edit; the most i like about Kerrywhistles is the stuff you play yourself, your music really sounds nice, amazing, healing to the soul. This is my favorite tune by far at the moment. I cant listen enough. Im self taught on a self made aluminium low d. Hopefully will own my own V5 fixed as its my absolute favorite sounding whistle ive heard. Well done for the music and the skill to create such fine pieces.

Hi is this good to play titanic music on pls and I have very small hands is it too large I'm 5'2" ! I have a native american flute and wonder have u tried to play any tunes on this as its similar and beautiful! Stay safe

In LOVE with this instrument and SONG and MR HARDY's way of playing. Musician all my life, I kind of switched a little over time from huge wind instruments to smaller ones : Pipe organ, to keyboards, then to whistles.... :) I own a few good whistles (Sindt in high D, McManus in low Bb) and the new addition is Chieftain Low D, coming up soon to my door!

All of you asking for sheet music and tabs. Just use your ear. This is a great song to play by ear. Two reasons. It is a very slow tune and it is very short. Takes about an hours listening to write down all the notes. Stop asking for tabs, just learn it. I play this a lot as it is simple but also a wonderful tune.

I keep coming back to this..... so wonderful and evocative.....trying so desperately to learn it, but I have a great problem playing by ear so onward with the practice 👍🏻

Just got my Chieftain Thunderbird (and love it, what a beautiful sound!). May be the fact that I'm a pianist since I was about 10 years old helps for the stretching of the fingers, but to me it means one thing: exercices to stretch your fingers + piper's grip will do the work for women with small hands like me. Next goal = higher octave, a bit tricky for me right now, but I'm practicing!

Sounds great...would have preferred a backing instrument; non percussive soft filtered pad and away from the range of the whistle to highlight it more. I love that I cant hear the pump ie there seems to be nice back pressure although the clip is in black and white...I wouldnt know if you were going blue in the face :-) Great playing and instrument! (small micing tip: The TLM103 is a great mic and for solo instruments, use in MS mode with a nice figure 8 capture solo wind instruments even better, also allows moving back a bit more to capture the actual space/sound better imho...hard one technique but for your instruments...great)

@kerrywhistles Phil what would it take to get the tabs for this song or maybe a tutorial video. I'm willing to pay what ever you would charge for it and I'm almost positive others would too. This is the song that inspired me to purchase and start playing low d whistles. Having those tabs would be a valuable asset. It's such a beautiful song and I would happily pay 100£ just to learn to play it in your style. Give it some thought my dear friend and let us know what you decided.

A magnificent piece beautifully written and played. If you don't mind me asking, Phil, what is your musical background. Have you studied composition...excellent piece!
Played guitar from the age of 5 then went on to bass at 18, learned by ear and picked up wind instruments in last 20s. Never looked back.

This tune is a bit like one of those classic Gary Moore style electric guitar ballads,
Do you have the piano notes?
Phil, your whistles look and play great, but they have too much breathiness in tone. I own all models - Thunderbirds, Optimas, V3s, V4s and they all share this feature. This track would be perfect if I didn't think that the air is leaking somewhere from the pipe.
The breathiness is one characteristic which which separates the sound of the Irish whistle from the flute. Most are designed that way with the exception of the MK which has more of a "flutey" tone.
That breathy overtone is the entire reason I bought this whistle.. I was going to go with mk but the airy tones of V5 got to me so now I patiently wait for mr. Postman

The breathiness is why I bought my CV5 as well. I love its softness. Heading up into the comeragh next week for two weeks of camping and I cannot wait to float some tunes down into the valleys.
