Wondering about the R3, R4, and DS1? Those are also excellent detectors. This video is focused purely on the very best high end detectors, not every single great detector available. If you’d like to see how other detectors stack up, including non-arrow detectors, check out this guide: www.vortexradar.com/best-radar-detectors/ I'll do another video in the future that covers the best detectors at all different pricepoints.
I bought R7 for 3500 mile trip through mountains several states back early May. It saved me two times in big way . It gives you more than enough time slow down even on City filter. I installed it permanently, have the external mute in the steering column. This is much better old Valentine One 25 years old. It is so easy understand on day one.
@@VortexRadar Watched and liked. Vortex, I'd like to set my R7 to ONLY pickup RedFlex in the K band 23.980-24.110 range. Is that possible? I only need RedFlex and KA segmentation here is SK Canada. I tried looking on RD forum and someone by the name Mithheru does it, but I can't find more information. I run ALP for laser. Any help is appreciated.
Great review as usual. I am sticking with my R7 for now as it works great except the noted lockout issue. I sure wish Radenso would come out with Theia before police in flying cars start using tiny drones to pace cars ;-)
I just bought an R8. After 2 commutes to and from the office it's automatic GPS lockouts have worked perfectly out of the box. I haven't checked for updates yet.
Based on your older videos I picked up a R7 and r3 a few months back. The r3 is decent, but the r7 is amazing. Some day I'll upgrade to an r8. Thank you for the videos
Thanks for the review, I finally decided to purchase the Uniden R8 and hands down it's better than my Escort Redline 360c for all my needs. The ramp up of the alert on the R8 as well as the the bars indicating green, yellow and red as i'm closer to the (threat) is also a plus.
Actually, after a year+ of using V1G2 + JBV1, the primary benefit of this system is the crowd-sourced alerts, followed then by the customized muting of V1G2 either by GPS muting or the various speed based or signal-strength based muting. Very powerful and easy to live with. I drive a lot (45K miles/year) and use it for 90%+ of drives, only exceptions typically being if I'm just cruising or going a very short distance.
I being a old time user of the V1G1 / V1G2 . Will agree - the R7 / R8 are great detectors and out shine the V1G2 in a lot of ways. (K band and photo radar detection). I suggest the R8 over the V1. Due to the problems the V1G2 is having with false Ka and poor K band detection. I hope that Valentine 1 gets the Ka false alerts and poor K band detection fixed soon. Thank you for the video. Hope the family and you are doing well. Take care 'Spin'.
@@EscapeVelo The V1G2 was better before the latest upgrade. Ka is hotter then heck but with it came those false signal alerts. I've owned a V1G1 for about 15 years till the V1G2 came out. I might buy a Uniden R8 and run that for a bit.
I haven't had a very small number of raise KAs in the couple months I've used my V1G2 (I think satellite TV is responsible in my cases), and very sensitive K (more so than I would desire if the filtering wasn't good. On my R3, I just leave K turned off, but it's usable on the V1G2 without being annoying. (JBV1 probably helps) I'd strongly consider the DS1 if purchasing again, since it has Highway Radar app support (and theoretically JBV1 one day.) and great performance for $100 cheaper.
@@TravisTerrell I have both a DS-1 and a R7 to use. Though I gave the DS-1 to my son and my other son is getting the R7. I finally had the string of 33.8 alerts then a J out on the V1G2 the other day. So it can happen. I always told people you 'could' get a much sensitivity. It is not that it's a bad detector. Just picking up crappy detectors and sat dishes too much lately.
The Redline 360c has paid for itself the last two years. Unfortunately it had to be repaired, screen burn in and loose 📡 📶. So far so good after repairs!!
Damn I just bought one last month. Haven't had a chance to use it but this sucks to read especially at the price point. Did they fix for free or a fee?
Tha fact is the V1 Gen II is about as simple, easy to use, and effective as anything on the market. The fit and finish, over the air updates, it kills it ! As a Valentine customer for over 20+ years, I can’t say enough. Mike Valentine has literally been the benchmark for all radar development. His legend is present in the new Gen II, and it only gets better. JMO ..
He is a personable guy, and I respect his work ethic. He is way behind the curve with no GPS auto lock out, or gps for that matter. Nobody wants to connect a radar detector via apps to work. At least a very small percentage. We want Bluetooth, gps built in.
Nope, not confused at all. GPS locations can change. However radar types and proximity play a bigger role. I’ve used V1 & V2 now combined for over 25 years. Fact is, it works without gimmicks. JMO ..
@@jasonb4988 The comment you made didn’t really make a lot of sense respectfully. I still don’t think you do understand though. GPS auto lockout is a feature, that detects a false alarm 3 times, and recognizes that location. That is the entire point of it. Of course the locations change, and are added. It is not a gimmick at all. If you prefer the valentine radars, that’s fine. However, they don’t have gps built in, and are the only high end radar to not have it. It also has far more false alerts also. I have researched radars, and how they work probably a 100hours or more.
I have had the same valentine 1 for 20 years. It never false alarms for me. I have k and x band turned off. It has saved me 1000’s of tickets over the years. If I get a new 1 it would be the gen 2. Simple to use. The escort would go out every 2 years after the warranty was over. Stick with the valentines 1
I bought a Max 360 for 300. Love the premium app. I was intrigued you can now find the V1 Gen 1 dirt cheap and i was able to find one for 136. Both are mint. Bought an external Bluetooth module so i can connect to JBV1. I found Highway Radar is highly indepth and isn't plug-n-play for radar dummies like myself compared to Ariel.
Me: R7 and Vortex Radar's set up guide for that model. Mine is set up for the State of Florida. I get ZERO false alerts! I have K and X bands disabled. Except for some small towns like Waldo and Alachua, most FL sheriff’s, PDs and FHP use Ka band which is about 99% of what is in use as far as radar. K band is pretty rare there anymore and X is no longer used.
Wish Uniden allow a trade in policy. I have the R7 and bought it unless $400 on Amazon 18 months ago. The R8 went up too much for the updates at the Price $749/$699. Also for that price, Uniden should fix the auto locks, Wi-Fi and make it stealth like the RL360 for the upgrade price over the R7.
Awesome review! I watch almost every review that you do and always leave better educated at the end. I was wondering if you would consider making a video showing the real-world performance difference like you have done so in the past with the red barn. Thank you for everything that you do!
Great Review - just found you on UA-cam. I recognize many of those roads from your recorded videos. I'm just getting ready to buy a replacement for an old escort that finally bit the dust. Great info and appreciate all the detail.
I'd like to see you try setting up something like the CarlinKit AI Box in your car for automatic JBV1 setup (on your vehicle's screen). No need for an extra phone, or any setup every time you get in the car, just get in the car and drive with JBV1 launching automatically. You can even split screen for navigation, music, etc. I know you already have WiFi in your vehicle, but for those that don't those boxes and provide it as well. I think it's a better solution than a dedicated phone, especially for Apple users. I watched this video on my vehicle's screen (while parked), via such a box.
I have been following you for awhile and I have since then jumped on the Uniden band wagon after being a Escort user for a long time. I say all that to ask am I in a Echo chamber with the Uniden or are they just that good? Note I do own the R3 and R7, and now looking at buying the R8. Thanks for your videos and time. These videos has helped me tremendously as i am not sure if i would have put as much work in to find out all this info! You Rock!
Great comparison video always. I Have R8 for Radar/ Laser detection. works very well in my area . sometimes faulty alarm for MRCD/T but RT3/4 detection is almost perfect. Also use V1 G2 for laser only. For laser sensitivity V1 G2 only pre-warning capable detector I Believe. Actually turned off all radar detection , so many faulty K/Ka band. no Photo radar capability. Many years ago V1 was best but not anymore now a days.. I'm now very satisfied my combination R8 + V1 G2
Excellent Review and comparison of these fine detectors. I'm so glad you included the Uniden R7, as I have one and was contemplating whether or not to buy the R8. After seeing this video, I'm convinced that the R7 is good enough. Maybe when and IF Uniden gets off their butts and releases better lockout fixes, and supports the Bluetooth functionality with a good APP , then I will likely upgrade. Until then, I'll keep using my R7. Thanks again for all you do. I love your channel!
Radenso DS1 should be included in this list for undetectable radar detectors with great range, MRCD, auto-lockout, and open API (not great yet but its there).
Oh he did update it on his page but not the R4 I have the R4 and I know that it’s better than ds1 there was not a lot of light shed on the R4 that’s why their sales were so low uniden can thanks certain people for that
Great video! I bought v1g1 10 years ago and it worked very well in America or China. However it's time to buy a new generation product so r8 is what I choice.
I'm a retired trucker of 50yrs and I've had them a since the big square whistler with the big light and on an off button to a bushel basket of them. Ive had a sti driver for 25 years or whenever they came out and it's by far still the best one yet. Your readers also need to know that you have to learn how to use one an get used to it and how it operates. You can't just buy one an plug it in an go off flying down the road. You learn to read traffic an a number of things to use one. That's about 7.5 million miles of experience also.
I just found your channel yesterday and have been hooked. I've been diving into radar detectors and laser jammers for the first time, and had no idea there was so much to learn about. Your content eventually brought me to RDForum (including your posts there, which kinda steered me away from the Radenso RC M due to its age at this point), which has opened my eyes even more. I enjoy the no-nonsense style of your videos, and how in-depth and passionate you are for these topics. When I finally purchase a detector (still deciding) and jammer system (ALP most likely), I will definitely use your affiliate links where I can. I'm subbed! Thanks and keep up the amazing work!
Thank you and welcome aboard! Yeah it's been fun to learn and share all this, especially given how there's not much good quality info online otherwise.
Thanks for the great review video. Just got my Uniden R8 now using your link. Glad if that can give your some commission at least for all those efforts you always put toward those videos. Of course I will be back here when I receive it, to check how to set it up! 😎👍
My obligatory.... I love my r7 but the auto lockout is horrible. It isn't able to adapt the range for things like traffic lights or speed signals. It will have the same damn alerts go on for 5-10 seconds before the auto lockout starts. Sometimes the signal is too fast to where you don't have time to manual lockout. It seems like something so simple to fix.... But is absolutely infuriating day to day.... Edit: Kudos to you for mentioning this in the video as well.
In my personal opinion I'd say it is I owned the R3 then got the R7 when it first came out and loved it. Then the R4 came about and it was quiet compared to the R7 and couldn't wait till the R8 came out and now is my everyday detector while the rest sit in the glovebox or middle counsel. The R7 is absolutely a great detector the R8 is better and much more quiet for sure
I have 8 Valentine 1 Gen 2. I got tired of moving them between vehicles. The subscription for each redline 360c adds up. I am going to try thr v1 apps and see how I like them. I was not aware of the no,photo radar on v1. Great video.
Why do you pay for the Redline subscription? Do you mean their Defender database? If so, if you have the detector connected to the cloud over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, it’s grabbing the latest red light camera and speed camera information, regardless of the age of the database loaded directly into the detector.
I drive a lot. Arrows seem dumb. If I have alert do 5 over and keep moving. Thus, I bought the DS1. The New Upgrade gives you alert in background with Bluetooth, making it the best motorcycle detector. Escort customer service is less than stellar. Radenso has amazing customer service.
I traded my very old V1G1 for a V1G2, and two months ago I used it on a 5200 mile drive from TX up to Boston and back, passing through many states. The V1G2 is running the March 2022 software, and the K and Ka band false alerts are pretty crazy. Combined with all of the construction happening on the highways, and the radar speed signs associated with those, it made for a very active detector. One thing that I noticed is that there were quite a few 18 wheelers running what I believe is a blind spot detection system that uses Ka. It would cause my V1G2 to alert on Ka band, until I reached the front of the truck cab, or a little further ahead, and then it would quickly drop off and stop. Does anyone know if Valentine is working on a fix for this?
Its everywhere with the consruction sites--someone posted that they are using the signs to collect data and many are soalr powered and the signals are very strong. My 9500ix was also going off like crazy but guess what--out of 4 constrction sites I went thru--police were in 2 of them giving those double fine tickets so in the end it saves you.
I just got an R4 for 350 dollars--I do not need the arrows-I need extreme range on the HWY for when I go on trips in rural places and wind up in the triple digit speeds--sold my 9500ix for it.
@@khronin thr R8 has range as well. Not sure exactly how it compares to the R4 but I wanted the arrows. IMO it’s just so much better to know what direction. This and many other reasons is why I spent the money on the R8
Upgrading my old 9500ix. Debating on Uniden R7 or V1 Gen2. Leaning towards V1 but lots of discussion around false alerts. Which detector is more chatty? Assuming both are likely very much better than my current 9500ix. Help me decide lol.
Hopefully MaxCam will be updated to detector cloaking functionality for Virginia. Redline already has it and that's important when driving through an aggressive enforcement jurisdiction where detectors are illegal.
I decided on the redline 360 some time back. I’m very happy with it. Hopefully a firmware 2.0 will fix the latency but off topic. There is a speed sign a block from my house and my radar never detects it. Works everywhere else. Is there a reason you think why the redline doesn’t detect it? I had it stock and changed it to your recommended settings for NY and same issue.
In my area, jurisdiction's seem to rely on red light and speed camera's more than live police radar. So from that stand point a good database of locations that are frequently up-to-date is more of a priority. I wonder what others are encountering most of the time.
I have found that the Escort lines are massively out of date with the "Escort Live" App. It warned me of a speed camera that had been removed over a year earlier, whereas it said nothing about the one placed six months earlier. It also warned me of a Red Light camera on I-76 which is a major highway. We were in the middle of no where without any off ramps or towns within several miles.
@@Evlengr out-of-date camera locations has been my experience in several situations but for the most part I have been fortunate that’s not often. I just don’t like tying up my phone with waze. I like playing podcasts and music through the phone and not being alerted with every obstacle or traffic alert.
@@baddriversofthenorcalarea500 The various jurisdictions strategically place speed traps at the bottom of hills and in locations where momentum and they just generally know they can generate income for the city or county. So it's not always about safety. That's really why responsible drivers will invest in countermeasures. Sometimes even the best of drivers are caught daydreaming.
FIRST...Love your videos...very well done..very informative...and my comment..I really don't know why you included the v1 g2...it's obsolete compared to the GPS equipped units.I know you can pair it with your phone with a special app etc..ya I can also buy a pinto and put a V8 in it and after a whole lot of headache and time/effort..I can have a fast car...but I'd rather just buy something fast and new instead of embarking on a billybob project...kinda like with a detector..if you can plug and play and be all set...why mess around with a Valentine? it's obsolete..
I did testing with a stalker LiDAR XLR on my buddies MAX 360 and I held the LiDAR on his car for literally 7 seconds and it didn’t alert once. I told him to return it as it’s the most widely used LiDAR in our state due to the fact that company has the contract with the state.
That can happen with almost any radar detector. They're great for radar, but lousy for laser. It doesn't matter which radar detector you choose. You need to add a laser jammer alongside your radar detector if you want protection against laser.
Thanks, Vortex, for such a thorough and well considered video. Exactly what I was looking for, as a person who knows nothing about radar detectors but wants to get one for better situational awareness. Bought the R8 with your link + subscribed!
@Vortex - Great review. Thank you. Quick question: How does the R8 identify Gatso cameras ? Is it just a GPS database (like SpeedCheetah) or is it a some kind of physical sensing ability ?
Great video just got th v1 g2 and playing with jbv1 for upcoming road trip and the fcd thin premium display. And your blendmount on your Audi does it move I have a 2016 VW Touareg and not as tight. Reached out to blendmount but wanted to see how yours was setup. Great video by the way. Rewatching your jbv1 series to get better understanding. Thank you
Excellent review video and I did stay for the whole thing! Did you ever review the Escort M2 Dash Cam like you said you were. If so, I can’t find it on your site.
Thanks for this great review. I'm planning to upgrade from an 9500i. It was Escort's best detector when I bought it. Question. Did the R8 rattle while mounted? People have been commenting about that.
Thank you for all the great videos. Very informational but yet confusing to me. I just want a great simple radar detector that is the best at false alarms. I don't need all the fancy stuff. Can you recommend a great detector that is simply and best at false filtering? I'm placing this in a Porsche so I get on it a lot and need just police radar presence and nothing else. Thank you!
I had the escort maxcam 360c and i just swapped it out for a redline 360c and a BlackVue dashcam and gave my maxcam to my mom simply because of how horrible the dashcam part of the product was. The app is horrible, and if you want to quickly connect to it with Wi-Fi and look at a video clip, its almost never gonna happen because you can’t immediately see the video thumbnails, and the video takes ages to even load, and not only that, but in the videos, I’ve found that the audio is completely ripped because of vibrations going through the suction cup mount. The audio always sounded like a freight train from hell because it allowed so many vibrations through.
Is there a detector that comes in separate pieces? Like screen can be mounted elsewhere and the detecting components can be smaller in the windshield and the switches maybe on the dash?
Currently have V1 G1..Which I use only on drives that are more than an hour. Looking to pick up a detector that has better highway capability and camera alerts. I know R8 is the king, however I am also considering dethroned champ RL360C. What attracts me about RL360c 1) Design, it's sturdy and does not look cheap 2) Stealth. Uniden R8: According to reviews everything is amazing EXCEPT the build feel.. From what I read, it feels like a $100 cobra rather then $700 high end detector. I would love to see a video about RL360C clearly stating the downsides.. So far the only 2 downsides I am aware of are 1) weird ramp up 2) Slow reaction to instant ON on K band. Am I missing anything else? Do all RL360c have bad ramp up and bad I/O detection time? If anyone can state their opinion which detector should I choose I would appreciate it.
I have the Redline 360c, the i/o issue isn't so bad, if you compensate it with your own reaction time. But really what will bother you more is the ramp up. The Uniden will also tell you via voice where the threat is coming from, so you don't even really need to look at the detector. The auto-lockouts are really far superior on it though. So once you have it set up, you just leave it there to do it's thing. You don't need to touch it or anything, besides mute if the ramp up bothers you. Also, it's much easier to take down and put up, it's got a magnetic stand. The app is old and buggy, don't bother with it besides changing settings and updating (they say Uniden don't profive regular software updates, but that goes the same for Escort). That said, I did have an issue where it didn't detect Ka-band police car until I was meters away, but it had just pulled over a guy so idk. I think almost all other times it's given me plenty of warning. It is expensive, but if you're coming from the V1G1, maybe just grab the V1G2 with the JBV1 app? It'll be cheaper and you'd probably be more used to it.
@@britishmalayasociety thanks for you description/experience. Appreciate it! I will just try them both and see which one I like more. As far as Uniden updates, I believe they are actually working on the update for R8 which will enable Bluetooth. As far as RL360c, I would like to experience ramp up to see if it will bug me. I/O for some reason for me is a bigger issue. Because I have seen couple reports of people getting hit with I/O and by the time RL360c reacted it was too late. Citation was written. Although, I need it mainly for highway and against cameras. Anyway, I will try them both and will determine. I will use mirror mount as well.
@@NPDrives Escort was pretty good on the updates. But it's been over a year now and there's just been nothing. Only database stuff. I have the International version which does not require a subscription too. I believe the US version requires a subscription if you want to update the internal database and use the companion app. If I had to do this all over again, I'd probably pick the R8. I don't really need it to be stealth. It's legal to use in my country. It's also quite a bit cheaper. ($1200 USD vs $860 USD for me) But I haven't exchanged it so far because, the R8 isn't that much better for me to be too bothered about it.
Thank you as always for another great comprehensive review!! Does the Uniden R8 have the same mount and release as the R7? I have my current R7 attached under my mirror using a Blendmount and wiring harness.
Great review, I have been following up with many of your videos, and it's helping. I'm still torn between the redline or the maxcam. I like the camera feature, which makes me lean more toward it, but is that the right way to go over the redline?
The dashcam is super useful. Standalone dashcams do offer better video quality and more functionality, but not with the same level of convenience and simplicity of an all in one.
@@VortexRadar very true! Thanks for the feedback. Yeah my other option like I said was I would do the redline and a blackvue but I like the all in one concept. Less clutter on the window then again. lol
Glad you enjoyed it! I've never seen the R8 on sale or available with any discount code before. As far as where to buy it, I put a link in the video description that takes you to Amazon and BRD. Both are good places to order.
Another great video However I just bought a DS1 based on your videos about it So question: why didnt' the DS1 make the cut in this video? Regards, rick
Also a great detector and I’ll cover that in another video that goes over the best detectors at different price ranges. Not there’s other great detectors “missing” too like the R3, R4, etc. This is just about the very best options.
The best detectors without Arrows are the Radenso DS1, Uniden R4 and Escort Max 3. None of these great detectors are on Vortex list here because they all lack arrows. I have an Arrowed detector and love it (Valentine One Gen1), but also an Escort Max 3 and just picked up a Uniden R4 for $ 100 off at $ 350. They all work great. Arrows just provide more information.
Excellent video, thank you. Any comments on the mounting mechanisms of each? Is the Radenso mount as good as the Valentine's? I'm seriously considering upgrading my V1 gen1 to an R7 or R8.
@@TrackNation302 not yet, as much as I like the Uniden R7 and R8 models, I can't justify spending over $200 more than what a V1 gen2 would cost. Radar detectors are fast approaching laser jammer price territory, which is inexplicable. Maybe I'm missing something here... 🤷🏻
Glad you did this video... definitely looking for something new to replace my Rodenso Pro M that can't detect laser. Either that or I'll just get an Anti-Laser Priority system.
Great videos and a new subscriber. One question for ya. I seemed to have discovered your vids just a tad late to get the Xmas deals. In your experience is there another time of year where they typically go on sale? I hate paying full price, especially when I know there are deals around the holidays. From your vids, I’m really interested in the R7. Almost as good as the 8 but about$200 . Also the R4 seems to be a good deal. Many thanks for the vids on performance. Looking forward to your or anyone else that can chime in on my questions.
I believe they keep updating the R3s and R7s and will continue to do so because of the hype and everybody still buying them. I hope they don’t forget about the R4 updates. The new detectors should get updates to. People spent too much money on these r4s for them to be put aside and all of the attention on the R3s and R7s. I hope we get updates soon to clear up any bugs that the R4s have and to make the performance better in certain situations.
Right it was too many provinces to list where they were ilegal so I listed it as most provinces except BC, AB, and SK. I said the same thing as well. Sorry if it was unclear.
great video. could you please tell me which one is best for a motorcycle? would the r8 be the better one as it has built in bluetooth? OR is there another model specifically for motorbikes. i realise that these products are not waterproof btw...
As long as you can filter out all K band, they all work good. If you cannot get rid of an alert for K band they are useless! Nobody uses K band speed guns anyway. I have cut out all K band and left just Ka and Laser and has been working with an older Escort 360 flawlessly. Love it.
I have the uniden R7 and R8. Also the escort 360c. The escort is collecting dust somewhere. I use the R8 and spouse R7. I want my R7 back, can’t get it 😂
Vortex - Could you share how close the Radenso DS1 fell outside of this class? Other than not having the arrows, was there a major reason it was excluded from this list? Appreciate all of your detailed and informative reviews. They are incredible! Thanks
Right just arrows. I find them to be incredibly helpful ua-cam.com/video/xIXhBrQIWF8/v-deo.html so if we’re talking about the very best of the best, I’m looking at arrow detectors. Among non-arrow detectors, the DS1 is one of the best.
Nice video! Thanks for the information. Have narrowed the list to the Uniden R7 or the Valentine 1 Gen2. I do a lot of interstate trips so having long range is my primary goal. Would like to mount directly under the mirror. Would you recommend a quality mirror mount? The ones I am seeing on Amazon seem cheap and with the screw attachments on the top side. My Ranger has a whole bunch of electronics in that box and I don't see running a wrench between the mount and the box as an easy task.
Thank you for the well explained video 👌 Can you tell me if there is a way to connect uniden r8 to some android app so I can use it efficiently riding motorcycle? Tnx
Hi vortex love the Channel keep it up. I was wondering i have bought the escort 360 max and i got it from a guy who barely used it last year just never set it up yet but unfortunately already apparently must’ve registered it so I’ve read that with the escort live premium subscriptions they just keep auto renewing them would it be the same if I paid the $49.99 price once. or would I have to get ownership transferred over to me ?

I being a old time user of the V1G1 / V1G2 . Will agree - the R7 / R8 are great detectors and out shine the V1G2 in a lot of ways. (K band and photo radar detection). I suggest the R8 over the V1. Due to the problems the V1G2 is having with false Ka and poor K band detection. I hope that Valentine 1 gets the Ka false alerts and poor K band detection fixed soon. Thank you for the video. Hope the family and you are doing well. Take care 'Spin'.
Im still rockin' a late production Gen 1 Valentine One. The one with the TF2 aka Junk K Band filter. I love it.
(JBV1 probably helps)
I'd strongly consider the DS1 if purchasing again, since it has Highway Radar app support (and theoretically JBV1 one day.) and great performance for $100 cheaper.
@@TravisTerrell not no more price just went up to 470 it wasn't worth 399 IMO the R4 for 350 is a way better option and detector.
Ordered my Redline 360c today. Thanks for the good content!
this guys on point when it comes to reviews
The Redline 360c has paid for itself the last two years. Unfortunately it had to be repaired, screen burn in and loose 📡 📶. So far so good after repairs!!
Damn I just bought one last month. Haven't had a chance to use it but this sucks to read especially at the price point. Did they fix for free or a fee?
@@Mac7504-OG It was out of warranty so I paid less than $100+ shipping to them. I believe and they threw in a suction cup and extra charger.
Dammit. Not good. I'll have to check, but how long is the warranty for? Thanks for the reply.

Regarding gps. I’m not overwhelmed by it. The fact is, whoever sees the other one first generally wins. So I’ll take the range over gps. JMO ..
@@jasonb4988 The range has nothing to do with the GPS auto lock outs lol. I think you are confused.
Bought my Max cam about 6 months ago. Thanks for the recommendation. The few of the latest updates has really improved the detector.
So in light of how suckie dashcams are. How is it in the MaxCam device?
I bought a Max 360 for 300. Love the premium app. I was intrigued you can now find the V1 Gen 1 dirt cheap and i was able to find one for 136. Both are mint. Bought an external Bluetooth module so i can connect to JBV1. I found Highway Radar is highly indepth and isn't plug-n-play for radar dummies like myself compared to Ariel.
sticking with my R7! i plugged it in, keep it on highway mode, and put it on mute or the lowest volume setting. pretty plug and play for me
Mine might not be even close to the best but it has done the job for over 3 years. Max 360c.
Hmm, still running my V1G1 for 20 plus years. Hadn’t thought about upgrading until seeing your video.
Been loving my R8

With all the Android car stereos available now, it would be good to see a video on which detector integrates best.
Great commentary, excellent pacing, timing and great information.
Agreed, outstanding video! Thank you for being so thorough and delivering all this quality information!
I will be happy to keep using my V1G2 and R7.
An sti driver is still the best radar detector? Lmao
Uniden R3 The best
R8>>>>>
Plus it’s detectable to police radars
Oh, and I also love how your video reviews all have an article version on your website. Amazing work, man.
Thank you and welcome aboard! Yeah it's been fun to learn and share all this, especially given how there's not much good quality info online otherwise.
Excellent job, you really covered important factors that help a tough buyer like me to make a clear decision R8 Thx
Yeah exactly. It’s annoying and needs to be fixed.
I have the R7 from day one, so upgrading to the R8 is like upgrading your cell phone. sure it has a few minor upgrades but is it worth the extra cash.
@@stancummings6257 out of curiosity, how much better is the R8 from the R7?
I love my R8! Best radar detector investment I ever made!
So that’s actually a byproduct of the hardware design so a firmware update would not change its stealthiness characteristics.
They should add the RDR toggle back to redline 360C, I remember that's what helped the original redline improve way more than the segmentation alone..
Super normal ua-cam.com/video/g7VYq37J0nI/v-deo.html
In my area, jurisdiction's seem to rely on red light and speed camera's more than live police radar. So from that stand point a good database of locations that are frequently up-to-date is more of a priority. I wonder what others are encountering most of the time.
What about Google Maps or Waze? I believe those’ll be updated even more than any RD.
Or just dont run red lights and speed? Why are you willing to expend 10x the effort to avoid detection than it would take to simply drive normal?
@@baddriversofthenorcalarea500 The various jurisdictions strategically place speed traps at the bottom of hills and in locations where momentum and they just generally know they can generate income for the city or county. So it's not always about safety. That's really why responsible drivers will invest in countermeasures. Sometimes even the best of drivers are caught daydreaming.
Great video review!
Lots of information to help decide what detector could suit you best!
Vortex... I Have Question... You got Any Speed Ticket Before? 😁😁

Not too concerned with false alerts as the only band I run is Ka-band.

Which radar detector is best for semi truck drivers
I drive highway 95% of my time. Indiana and Illinois. What would you recommend?
Thank you as always for another great comprehensive review!! Does the Uniden R8 have the same mount and release as the R7? I have my current R7 attached under my mirror using a Blendmount and wiring harness.
Yep, same mount :)
Less clutter on the window then again. lol

Did you upgrade? If so which did you choose and why?

Ordered My R7 is not working
Send it back hopefully will get a proper one
Still running a Beltronics 955. What do you think of those?
I believe they keep updating the R3s and R7s and will continue to do so because of the hype and everybody still buying them. I hope they don’t forget about the R4 updates. The new detectors should get updates to. People spent too much money on these r4s for them to be put aside and all of the attention on the R3s and R7s. I hope we get updates soon to clear up any bugs that the R4s have and to make the performance better in certain situations.
Thanks for the video. It is a bit unclear you mentioned Canadian provinces where detectors are legal, but the text states the opposite.
Right it was too many provinces to list where they were ilegal so I listed it as most provinces except BC, AB, and SK. I said the same thing as well. Sorry if it was unclear.

Yeah pick up the Blendmount. It’s way better than the Radar Mount one. I’ve got a discount code on my website.
@@VortexRadar Thanks!
Blendmount with the rear view mirror hardwire kit (if u have auto dimming mirrors) is the way to go if ur able to
Thank you for the well explained video 👌
Can you tell me if there is a way to connect uniden r8 to some android app so I can use it efficiently riding motorcycle?
Hi I live in Ontario Canada, can you tell me what you feel is the best detector to buy that can't be detected by the radar dectector dectector? Thanks
