6 years ago I adopted a black cat from a shelter, she was the last cat left after an adopt-a-thon weekend. I feel in love with her at first sight. She has been the best cat, totally dedicated to me, and so loving.
My SO didn't like me living alone so she got me a pet in about the same manner. Last cat, black, cracked teeth, anxiety grooming. After four years there's still a wildness to her and standoffness. But she can be so loving at times and I try to make the best home for her to make up for what she's been through.

I adopted my black cat from a lady who looked like the crazy cat lady from The SIMPSONS. Like your cat she was the last one, I knew I had to have her. So I adopted her. never looked back.
I adopted a black cat years ago, she was the last and only black in the litter. They said black cats were hard to get adopted. It is so stupid not to adopt a black beautiful cat, they are amazing.
Mine adopted me by refusing to leave my backyard for 3 months lol .. the males started coming around, so that was that. Brought her in, got her fixed, and she's been my shadow for 7 years. Her names Bellatrix 🖤 Smartest creature I've ever known, she even bossed the Corgi around lol.
I AGREE! However, I did once have a black cat that was mentally handicapped. Dumbest cat Ihave ever known, but also one of the sweetest and loving cats I have ever known.
Never met a person who had a black cat and didn’t love it. ❤😊. We call ours “our little Egyptian cat god” Mau. I tell him everyday how much I love that he lives with us. ❤😊
Yes! Beautiful and incredibly smart. I have a Bombay. They were created by mating Burmese dark sable with American domestic short hair. These were bred intentionally to create the panther-like appearance. They called this new breed Bombay because that is where panthers are from. They look like adorable mini panthers.🖤
@stormlord1984 I called them panthers when I came to the states, didn't know the English word for cat, born in Greece folks on holiday, then we shipped to Lousiana and called them gatos, friend spoke Spanish lol. I lost my Sooty 2 years ago. She was found in a dumpster as a tiny flea ridden pus eyed kitten of about 3 weeks old and still unweaned. I had to feed her special milk with a dropper for about another 3 weeks. She was 21 when she died in my arms and we all still miss her like mad. Sensitive lovely Sooty, so loving and understanding❤❤❤
I had my Binx for just two years , but he was so loving and loyal to me. He was a stray and even my dad fell in love with him. Sooty and Binx are playing together right now.
From one Sooty to another Sooty… my Sooty is sending ALL his head rubs, purrs, snuggles, meows and kisses your way to help the pain. You were the very best mum for your Sooty! Thank you for sharing your beautiful story! 🤗🤗🤗
We recently adopted a 19 year old. She is so affectionate, knows what she wants and how to get it, and still looks like she’s a young lady. Black cats rule!
I totally agree, and I was very surprised she stated in this video that this was debunked as a myth, when it clearly is not a myth at all. If it was a myth, why do shelters not allow people to adopt black cats 1-2 months before October 31st? Hopefully, responsible pet owners will keep their cats - black, or otherwise - well-monitored during this time of the year
I've been privileged to have been cat daddy to 6 black cats, all of them have been sweet, loving, and well-behaved kitties! I miss them all. The only thing I suggest doing differently as a black cat owner, is installing nightlights in your hallways so you don't trip over them in the dark!
I’m a black cat mama! Adopted 16 years ago from shelter. He’d just been dropped off the day before and he didn’t belong there. I know God brought me there to get him. I’m in US but his microchip had a Canadian address and I live in Texas. He’s been the best at everything. He loves walks together, some along side ne and sometimes going down the sidewalk on a leash 8 houses down from our house, crosses the street, and heads for home. He understands English and will change his behavior on the spot when I explain to him what I need him to change for and then do. He changes the color of his mane when in the sun to burgundy, brown, grey, white, and black. He’s magnificent, I know, and everyone tells me do. Very very smart too. My heart swells with love for him and he’s totally spoiled. My ptsd went away after I got him and we became fast friends. Cats are spiritual healers and he also helped rid my depression. He’s my best friend. I prefer his company over people. ❤❤
Since I was a child cats were my favorite animal. And I must confess blacks cats were my favorite. I'm 61 and have 3 companions and one is black. Nothing better than a cat in my life...
I think black cats are the most beautiful of all. We were lucky to rescue a young black cat last year, and she has grown into the most beautiful cat. And so very sweet and loving.
Once you go black, you never go back ;-) I had a Bombay black. I lived near a pub and he went along with me many times. He jumped on a bar stool and loved the attention he got.
One time I told my mom " I bet you would have never thought I would have a black child " she didn't know what to say , I love her so much and she is my child , my best friend , and my therapist , nobody knows me like she does
I love my cats like children. , they are not just pets , they are part of the family , I guess some people don't have the same opinion and I feel sorry for their pets , animals can feel love , and can tell when you just don't care , I even get my cats Christmas gifts , I put one in front of each one and they use their claws to open them up , they are pretty funny ! ❤ 😂
Oh, yes they do! 😂 My black cat Angel and I used to play hide and seek, she used to run to the darkest room in the house, sit on her butt and close her eyes.. she was black from ear to tail. The only parts of her that weren't black was her eyes and butthole..
My black cat is part Russian blue and has this beautiful blue-black sheen to her fur! She's absolutely lovely. A total sweetheart, so purry, and playful.
We've had our cat, Duncan, for nearly 16 years, adopted from a local shelter. He's completely black, from nose to tail, and he's the most affectionate, mellow animal you'd ever want to meet. He's got a great personality, too.
I had a black cat come to my house October 8, 2022 and I named him Zachary Binx and let me tell you those were the best almost two years with my Binxie Baby. He was my emotional support cat and I loved him so much, but sadly I had to have him put down , because he had a tumor in his stomach. I miss him everyday. Seeing this video made my day and I agree with everything you said.
My black cat lived to be 21 and was what I called a nurse cat. She knew when I was sick and wouldn’t leave my side. I have lots of stories. She warned me someone was trying to break into the house by jumping on me and yowling at 2am.
My cat did this, too. When he entered the terminal phase of Chronic Renal Failure, after a 5-year run with it, he fought so hard to stay, because he wanted to see me through to health. I have never known a person or animal as completely dedicated to another as he was! He left me a kitten he raised me, who wants to be with me every second! She gets impatient at night, because we sleep longer than cats do, and wakes me up…not to feed her or entertain her, but to cuddle. I still have pictures of them with all 8 paws joined. He knew I liked to “hold hands,” and was teaching her to do it. Now, we hold hands every day. Cats are amazing! ❤
I intentionally seek out black cats as my companions. Over the years I have had several. Currently have a black Manx I adopted from the shelter. Black cats are amazing and I have lived all of mine dearly.
I have a blackie for the past 7 years. Most of the time he’s the most chill cat I’ve ever had. But he’s also a worry wart when it comes to me. If he thinks I’m not feeling well, he likes to lie around my neck like a big scarf. I love-love-love him!
I have never had a black cat, but I love their look! I was adopted by a scruffy, funny looking little, dark gray guy, and he fit every flattery description of black cats I've ever heard. A very smart Velcro cat. He grew up to become really beautiful. He was my soulmate for 18 years, and even if it's been years since I had to send him over the rainbow bridge, I still have my days when I desperately miss him...
@@Kari.F. You should adopt a cat. They need a home and they all have such unique personalities. Science says you live longer if you have a pet. You must of really cared for him to live 18 yrs, males average around 16 yrs.of age.
@@marycoates4671 I love animals, so I've always taken good care of my fur babies. I'm cat-sitting for friends when needed, too. Felix was an indoor-outdoor cat, so when I moved 20 years ago I had to find a place where he'd be safe and happy. He would have been a miserably unhappy indoor cat. I'm getting old enough now that I want to move to the small town 10 miles from where I live while I still have the energy to move. I need an easier life. I plan on volunteering for a cat shelter there where they take in indoors cats who need a new home, too. Knowing me, I'll quickly be adopted by a pair of senior indoor cats who have lived together and shouldn't be separated. I give myself a couple of months, tops! 😂
I've always been a big fan of orange tabbies but I rescued a black cat 11 years ago and he is so special. Very loving. Gorgeous. I call him my panther. The softest fur I had ever felt.
🙂🙂🙂A Black Cat saved my Life, I was very depressed when I found a little furrball in the streets on Hong Kong, she was so small I thought it was some hairband when I nudged her with my foot she had fleas and was greasy and had given up on life, I nursed her to life and she was my best friend and companion for 18 years she was not very social but we had a connection, I saved her life and she saved mine as I once had given up so much and I thought of her and that changed everything. Cats are our friends and absolutely agree that Black cats are special, Lucky and loving. thanks for sharing this informative video. 😊😊😊
@@Saintm-lk5iu thank you for your kind comment, now all homeless cats are my friends I feed homeless cats where I meet them on my travels, I also put some of them on UA-cam. ☺️♥️😺
My husband and I have 5 black kitties. We rescued them all. We know black cats are often targeted. They are amazing, funny, smart and very loyal and loving. ❤
I am crying right now commenting about my Chanel. She was all black but in later years had brownish tips. Her hair was long. I found her wandering around a little kitten barely the size of my palm. She was the most amazing companion to me and lived 22 years. Everyone loved her. When people would come visit she would sit by them. She was very social. She had the most beautiful spirit and everyone loved her. She had a habit that every morning she would knock over something by my bed to wake me up so I would pay attention to her. When she was younger she would sit on the bath tub when I took baths to keep me company. She never bit ,scratched or was mean in any to anyone . When I would groom her and she would have knots she was very patient. She now and then would bring me a mouse she caught in the old house we lived in. She was the sweetest most gentle pet I've ever had. She's been gone now for quite a while and I miss her. Everyone that knew her still misses her. I have her ashes in a little urn where she sits behind the couch with my other lovely pets. When it's my time to go I hope she greets me and we are reunited. She was my fur baby, my bestie and my most favorite companion. ❤️❤️
❤ I have had the pleasure of having 3 black cats. Two were by chance . The 3rd, we adopted because of the stigma of the black cat. I wanted to give the cute little guy a loving, forever home! He is a wonderful addition to our family and I love all 3 of our cats soo very much! Great video!❤
We have 5 black kitties 😂 one is definitely a bombay and he is exactly like a cat-dog. Follows his favorite people everywhere and wants lots of interaction
We rescued a black shorthair thee years ago, and he was one the sweetest cats I have ever met. So extremely loving and very loyal. We took him to the vet and found out that he had feline aids and cancer. He only lasted eleven months with us and it completely broke my heart. Black cats are indeed special. I admit I still cry when I think about him.
@@johnkatsoudas4767 I'm sorry for your loss. My old black cats had lived to 18 years old & 20 years old. They had both died of natural causes, within 1 year of each other. I was heartbroken. I now have 3 black cats. They all came from a animal shelter, where I had adopted them. They're a 7 years old, female 'Bombay'.( I adopted her when she was a 3 & 1 half months old kitten. Her desexing cost was paid for by the shelter, 3 months later. (It was part of her adoption cost, when I bought her ). I also have a 11 years old, part-Siamese, black smoke, female cat, (I adopted her when she was a 6 months old kitten ), & a 13 years old, black Part-Persian male cat. I adopted him when he was 18 months old. (His old, owner had passed away, so he was taken to the shelter.). I also have a 3 years old small, part Bengal, male tabby. He was given to me by my neighbour, 3 years ago, when he was a kitten. He was a stray kitten, that came to her house. She had caught him. Her old dog didn't like the kitten. She would growl & bark at him. So my neighbour gave him to me. I also have a 8 years old, big rescue dog. I saved him when he was 10 months old . I love all my pets. 😊👍🐶😸😸😸😸❤️❤️❤️❤️🇦🇺

My beautiful little panther has the most awesome gold-colored eyes.💗🐈⬛
I’m in the UK and I had a beautiful black cat as a child in the 60’s. She’d follow me everywhere and I’ve been out walking to our local shop and turned around only to see her following me, so I used to have to pick her up and take her home. She also used to wait for me to come home from school at the top of our drive. Then she’d see me and come running down the road to meet me. She was so gentle and I never once saw her catch or kill birds etc. The day she died I was so upset I was physically sick. It’s been a very long time ago, but I’ll never forget her. I’ve had a few cats since then, who I’ve loved, but she was something extra special.
have loved many cats, but will never forget elmer, my cousin's black cat. this guy looked a bit intimidating, as his fangs rested outside his lower lip. but, he stood with his hind feet on his humans' laps, and wrapped his front legs around our necks---a real hug, with purring and face-rubs. so, so sweet !
My tuxedo cat was a hugger! People thought we named him Tutu. Really, he was named Speedy the 2nd, after my first tuxedo, but he wasn’t speedy at all, so we shortened it to Two, and then he was Two-Two.
I've had hundreds of cats over my years of all stripes and colors. In my experience and every cat varies, most black cats are extremely smart. Love them all no matter what color
I have owned black cats all my life. I am 53 and I have 7 beautiful black cats and each is special in personality and looks. They are great for families or for one. Please adopt a black cat if your looking for a great companion.
I am now on my third black cat. I love him dearly. He’s a great cat, but he sure knows how to get under my skin and he does that every minute he possibly can, but he’s my buddy.
SEVERE MIS- INFO ...Sorry!....the ancient Egyptians worshipped a GODDESS named BASTET or BAST. and so they bred cats for SACRIFICE to their goddess. = EXTREME ANIMAL CRUELTY. FACT.
We have a Black Bombay. We got him when he was barely 4 weeks old. He is extremely affectionate, curious and very comfortable around his 2 big brother "dogs". A mastiff / pit - and a Belgian Groenendael / Malinois. He's a great napping buddy too!
Really great video! I have black cats, and I'm surprised how right on this was. Already loved since birth lol. Good 2 know why. My cat patrols and guards my entire 4 top apartment complex and brings home strays, a real loving kitty and just a laugh machine! ❤❤❤❤🎉
The first cat I can remember was my Auntie's black cat, Smokey. I would have been about 2 years old at the time. Since then I have loved black cats and currently have 4 of them - all rescues. One of them has the most stunning green eyes that appear to be luminous. The other three have gold/green eyes. I also have another 4 cats (again all rescues). Two Tabbies, one Tuxedo and a Ginger & White. The black cat with the luminous green eyes is also highly intelligent. He will watch what we do and try to copy. He learned very quickly how to open most of the doors in the house, so much so that I had to put a childproof lock on the kitchen door to stop him getting in after he turned the gas taps on during the night. Luckily when I woke up I immediately smelled gas so didn't switch on any lights - the tiny spark at the switch is enough to ignite it. I live in the UK so we have natural gas which cannot gas you. Recently I watched him trying to open the childproof lock but he couldn't do it because there is a stiff button on the underside. He was trying to work out how to press the button and was pawing at it. Smart cat. Our latest addition to the family is an ex-feral black cat. Took us 18 months to catch him. He was an unneutered Tom and had disappeared for several weeks. My neighbour had been feeding him. Our neighbour left and we took over feeding him. Thought he'd gone for good when he turned up one evening holding up his front leg, very skinny and looking sorry for himself. Poor cat was starving which made it easy to catch him. Straight to the vet, was neutered, microchipped and his leg fixed. We were worried incase it was a fracture but it turned out to be an abscess which the vet cleaned and drained while he was under anaesthetic. He is now happy, healthy, a good weight and has super shiny fur that feels like silk. Like the rest of my cats he is an indoor cat now and has adapted well. He sleeps on my bed nearly every night.
That's a great story about the ex-feral cat. I'm glad he adapted so well! It's a good thing your door-opening cat doesn't have opposable thumbs. He' d be unstoppable. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but my two brilliant cats were both all black. One of them had shiny green eyes with orange highlights in the sun. I had a desk next to a door and he would stand up, wrap his paws around the door knob and turn it and push. Then he'd leap down and stroll out of the room. 😸
So nice that you spent all that money to fix him up, thanks! We have money now to spend on vets, but there have been many times throughout the years that we didn't.
@@lynnettespolitics9656 It was less than we anticipated as we thought he might have had a fracture but it turned out to be an abscess. To see him come from in pain, skinny, starving to what he is now, safe, shiny, healthy, pain free and much loved, he is worth every penny.
Black cats are the best cats! I’ve been lucky to have had two. Both were like dogs, played fetch, followed me from room to room. Lived for attention. The first one would go on walks with me and also guarded me and my newborn. Both extremely loving, cuddly and affectionate. My last one lived 15 years. He was my soul kitty.
I had one like that! It’s such an amazing experience. He left me a kitten he raised just for me, one of the street kitties I socialize and fix up, and rehome or bring to shelters. He used to do at least as much work with them as I did! She has FIV, and the shelter still put FIV+ cats down then, so that was out. She is such a loving girl, now! She was sick, her whole first year, but is now a healthy 3 year old. Their average life expectancy is 6, but the vet said if they get to 2 years old, the odds of a normal lifespan are good! While I know losing her earlier is possible, I am hopeful, and we enjoy every day together. I can’t keep the street kitties for long, right now, because I have to be careful she is not exposed to any diseases or parasites, so I fix them up a room and do my best, until a spot opens up at the shelter, but I am glad my cat is safe. I’m excited that my local humane society has started accepting FeLV+ and FIV+ cats, but none have been adopted, yet. 😢
@@David-x6e7nwho keeps wildlife in the house, with or without pets?? The City Council wouldn't allow it. There are not even wild animals in the streets, too much traffic and noise. Cats and dogs are only allowed out on a leash, too dangerous to walk free. If you don't comply, your pet will be seized and you'll have to pay a hefty fine. And why would someone hate any animal?? We're all on this planet together, with skin, feathers, fur and scales. If a spider comes into our house, I gently convince it to go back out. No need to kill. Please be kind to wildlife, petlife, humanlife, treelife... We're ALL part of Creation 😊
I have 2 male black cats. One is a British shorthair with one eye, and the other a cross between an Oriental and British shorthair. They absolutely adore each other and are never far apart. They sleep curled up together and enjoy grooming each other. The Oriental cross cheats on his bromance buddy with my ginger female British longhair. I guess he likes to spread the love.
I rescued Crissy from the roadside when she was only 3 weeks old. The vet said she might not survive and so she did as it is more than 3 years now. She is incredibly intelligent.
I rescued a feral black kitten that my friend found in her barn. It was the only kitten she could catch. She's about 13 now, and besides being full grown she basically hasn't aged one bit after adulthood and is in perfect health. She is the sweetest cat and the vet is always amazed she has perfect teeth without a single spot of plaque or tarter on her teeth. And she's very vocal.
Love this video for the positivity about black cats. More awareness is needed about how wonderful they are, just like any other kitten. My son works at a shelter and sadly people avoid them, not even wanting their children to touch them. As kittens they are the most playful and their shiny black fur is just BEAUTIFUL 💜
Every black cat I've known are highly intelligent, very lovable, and have a great sense of humor. It's true about what you said that at shelters, black cats are overlooked. I was surprised when I found out how superstitious people can be...they don't know what they're missing. Black cats are phenomenal. One very special black cat I knew had the most incredibly gorgeous brown eyes. He was very talkative and he was a delight to communicate with. He was brave and protective of other cats, very gentle and a real snuggly one with me, and in his laid back gentle way, he knew he was the man of the house. Super adorable. Super smart. He's passed away now, but he was just about the most amazing cat I ever knew.
I adopted a black Cat. I got him when he was already full grown boy, 3 1/2 yrs old. Of course, He owns everything. Especially me. I don't think I'd have it any other way. I know he wouldn't. Thank you for this great video.
I've always been a dog guy, but I got my first cat 5 years ago, and he's a Bombay black cat. He is as smart, loyal and affectionate as any dog I've ever had (and I've had some great, wonderful dogs). I will own a black cat from now on, I love him so much.
Our black cat Mookie is a sweetheart, very curious and intelligent. He has learned to open doors, turn on water faucets and is captivated by my IPad. Black cats are awesome, don’t let silly stories get in the way of adopting a black cat or kitten. They are very affectionate, healthier and live the longest of any breed of cat.👍🏼
@@dipaknadkarni62 We had a black tom cat, when me & my younger brother, were kids. Our parents were poor, then. They couldn't afford to get 'Sooty', desexed. He would take off for a few weeks, then come home, yowling to be let in. He stayed home for a few weeks, then he'd go again. We lived in a semi-rural suburb. There were a lot of 'feral' cats, around. People also dumped animals, in our suburb 😥. Our neighbours all had indoor cats & dogs. 'Sooty' was about 5 years old when he left & never came back. We put up 'lost cat' posters, everywhere, but no-one found him. Then 4 months later, a tame pregnant, tortoiseshell cat came to our door. We asked around our neighbourhood, but none of our neighbours owned her. She would've been dumped. Mum took her in & put her in the laundry. She made a bed for her. We named her 'Henrietta' .3 days, later, me & my brother, came home from school. Mum showed us the 'surprise'. 'Henrietta' had given birth to 4 beautiful kittens. 1 was black, 1 was ginger & the other 2 were Tabbies. When they were 6 weeks old, we found homes for the ginger girl & the 2 tabby boys. We kept the black kitten, we called him 'Shadow'. 'Henrietta' weaned him. She became my cat & followed me everywhere. She slept with me at night .'Shadow' preferred my brother. Both of these cats, lived to a good old age, too ! 'Shadow' may have been 1 of 'Sootys' offspring? Dad got a promotion at work, so when 'Shadow' was 6 months old, we got him desexed. I had to feed her special milk with a dropper for about another 3 weeks. She was 21 when she died in my arms and we all still miss her like mad. Sensitive lovely Sooty, so loving and understanding❤❤❤
That deserves a reply.
I had my Binx for just two years , but he was so loving and loyal to me. He was a stray and even my dad fell in love with him. Sooty and Binx are playing together right now.
What a beautiful story!

You got chosen. Nice.
I had a black cat as a pet growing up. Wasn't too keen at being picked up much, but the most loving, playful cat. Best friend, lived 23 years.
We recently adopted a 19 year old. She is so affectionate, knows what she wants and how to get it, and still looks like she’s a young lady. Black cats rule!

For their safety, keep your black cat indoors around Halloween. Adopt black cats! 🐱
Prior too Halloween evil people do terrible things to black cats this time of year
@@sandralrho9455 Thank you for reminding people of this!

Yes!! A nightlight is a must!!
Yes I agree as my black cats are always under my husbands feet 😂😂
My family and I have learned to look before we step, because my little girl is either lying down on the top step or the landing!

Wow .. that's a smart cat you got there .. he made you a welcomed guest to that pub 😻
I had a Bombay too. He would literally jump for joy. I was devastated when he got cancer.
I have a Bombay that loves going for car rides with me.

When my black boy sleeps on my black office chair, often times i dont see him until he opens his golden eyes. Then i say there you are!
Oh, yes they do! 😂 My black cat Angel and I used to play hide and seek, she used to run to the darkest room in the house, sit on her butt and close her eyes.. she was black from ear to tail. The only parts of her that weren't black was her eyes and butthole..
Which is why I talked to a lampshade that was sitting on the floor for 20 minutes.
Yeah, they can completely disappear at times. Some times their eyes can change from gold to green.

We have a tuxie like this! She's very protective and worries over her people. We love her!
When I had co vid my black boy would not leave my side. 😊

There is no cat as sweet as a black cat who has been raised in a loving environment. Had them my whole 66 year life.

I had a black cat and she was very affectionately and smart she lived 18 years.

Another person who hates wildlife

I love black cats! Many years ago I had a huge black cat named Pookie, he acted like a dog. Such a good by!❤
I ❤️ my black cat Batman 🐈⬛..He is the love of my life.
I've always been a dog guy, but I got my first cat 5 years ago, and he's a Bombay black cat. He is as smart, loyal and affectionate as any dog I've ever had (and I've had some great, wonderful dogs). I will own a black cat from now on, I love him so much.
Black cats are the best cats! I currently have 4. :)
I have a black cat that I rescued from a shelter 2 years ago.
She is now 4 years old.
I found my miniature panther on two separate websites that led to her, so I knew it was kismet that I adopt her.
We also got his mother, desexed. Both of these cats, were indoor cats. I've always loved & owned cats. I love dogs, too ! . I have 4 cats, now & 1 rescue dog. 🐶😸😸😸😸❤️❤️❤️🇦🇺
Love my green eyed 🐈⬛
My Boo is the most lovable cat I’ve ever had. She is a true beautiful creature. She is always with me and incredibly affectionate.
