it's actually awesome to see Cassius Marsh play this game. Not because he is the NFL Player nobody expects to play Magic, but because he is enjoying every minute of the game. Just look at his eyes, he is constantly checking the board and the cards, not wanting to miss a single action. Very inspiring.
What did you expect, a drooling muscle bound slope? He's a professional football player who went to UCLA. His day job is assessing by the second board states, matchups, formations, down and distance all against a clock. A M:tG game and a football field do share some similarities. I know this is old but I love tattoos and am on a game knights binge starting from episode 1. Yeah the color is punched in really well, the yellows are in there solid. He had to have sit in the chair for a looooong time for all that color, and with how well and even the color is?! man I'd love to get work done by that artist. I haven't had a new tattoo in like 1 year lol.
silverword111 honestly he played pretty poorly. He couldn't even explain his deck's goals, his lack of following mana showed in his play where he dropped Samut as an afterthought, etc. He seemed out of his depth. His biggest misplay was not minusing Ugin. He even said he expected it to die so why not capitalize on its value and get rid of all the threats? He seemed short-sighted and just using powerful cards but not optimally by any means.
The argument for plussing Ugin is that there actually wasn't 9 damage on the table when you include the Wall. Plussing it is essentially trading two commanders + two tokens for a removal spell, but also making them have that removal spell. Negging it means that Ugin is certainly dead thanks to the Copter. I would have minus'd here, but it's actually not super clear cut.
Kestral287 it was. He woulda exiled more making temmet cost more as he couldn't embalm back while super set back Josh. It was pretty clear cut imo considering nearly his whole board was exempt from the wipe. He also misplayed the pod. Why grab Oracle of Mul Daya when so far ahead on lands? He had great cards but he didn't seem to strategize near as much as the other three.
Temmet's actually cheaper to cast the second time than it is to embalm anyway. :P Again, it's a question of cleaning up what's largely chaff (since there were no tokens to support Temmet, Josh's commander is basically the only other card on the board that mattered) versus forcing Mel and Josh to have something for the Ugin or just lose to it. What they had on board wasn't enough to handle 9 loyalty, even if Mel had another creature to crew up the Copter. I'd still nuke there but it's closer than what it might seem since if you nuke, Mel suddenly has an on-board out to the Ugin. Insofar as the Pod thing goes, his deck is actually super light on four drops. Iroas, Linvala, Resto, and Oracle are his only targets. In that board state, Linvala was already in his hand, Resto didn't have any targets that mattered, and Iroas didn't do anything at all. Now, personally I'd call that a problem with deckbuilding; Pod is absurdly powerful but it's 100% a buildaround and after looking over his list I don't think Cassius has invested enough into the card to make it great. At the same time, from long experience I can tell you that it's impossible to be strong everywhere on the curve for Pod, especially for all the different situations where you want to Pod. Ideally you have a step and a stop at every point on the curve, but that's just not always possible. Even once you ditch the extremes, just the way that people build decks will put a dead spot somewhere. I think the only four drop creature in my entire Meren deck (besides Meren herself of course) is Solemn Simulacrum, and I've tuned that deck's creature component around Birthing Pod and Panharmonicon. (Edit: I went back and looked at my Meren deck, and forgot about Treasure Keeper and Thought-Knot Seer. The deck is even better built around Pod than what I recall apparently, but as I said: this is essentially Birthing Podharmonicon: The Deck).
This episode has shot up to one of my favorites - such a great way to show the diversity that is the MtG community. I remember starting my new job and there was a fairly intimidating coworker. He spoke his mind, was fairly foul-mouthed, always gave the eye, and was tatted up. One day, I was playing a game with a coworker and he happened to see us and says, "I used to play. I have a few decks." At that time, I kinda just passed it off like it was a person that knew of the game but didn't really play it. He comes the next day with dozens... DOZENS of vintage/legacy decks. I'm talking about THOUSANDS of dollars in these decks and well... now we all play :D
Same at my work. I'm the Sunday cashier and it's usually pretty slow, so the keyholder doesn't care if I bring in entertainment as long as it's subtle. I usually bring a book, but a couple months I brought in a deck I was working on. Two-thirds of the other employees had opinions to share, and we found out that we all play. We've spent at least part of the day every Sunday since talking MTG. Can't play yet though - COVID restrictions - which makes everyone a bit sad.

Nice episode! Cassius' deadpan humor was awesome! Mel's deck was really interesting as well. Never thought about the living weapon germ tokens for that deck!
I just want to say you guys do a fantastic job, and made me rethink Commander as a format. The amount of fun and explosiveness you display goes a long way! Also thanks for being good sports even when you're down, it's something the Magic community needs more of.
You mean with Ugin? It doesnt really do that much extra since only Josh will lose a couple snake tokens and Hep and Mel will lose her commander, any 1/x from mel means Ugin will die right away to 'choppa'. It was the right call to target elder in that scenario.
It would've changed a lot honestly. Josh was tapping out to play his commander in the later game; taxing it by another two would be a big deal. But Josh also would have had the Maelstrom Pulse since Mel could kill the Ugin, so Cassius and Mel are likely down their Sol Rings, which does limit some of the big-mana plays that Cassius in particular was throwing around later.
Just made me a fan of your you tube channel. As a huge Seahawks fan from Philly...i never knew Cassius Marsh played Magic. Great production on your videos and way to go making commander a format that is fun to observe!
I've been really impressed with the people y'all have put on the show. Really starting to show all the types of people that play this variant of the game. I think it's awesome! Keep up the good work guys!
When you sacrifice Neheb to make a player discard, you only get the 0/1 from Pawn of Ulamog if you let Neheb go to the graveyard (since sending it to the command zone is a replacement effect of dying, which is going to the graveyard).
I love this series. Out of all of my choices to watch commander, this one is my favorite. I hope you can continue to do this, and I'll be sure to use your affiliate link if it keeps it coming
I rewatched this video recently and that ending bit of Jimmy talking about Magic being shared language was really impactful. I'm in Korea and can't speak the language but I've played several games of edh with some locals at card shops and it was just as much fun as back home. Love this channel a ton!
This is one of the best commander gameplay that actually didn't bore me because its long but the presentation was very entertaining and well worth the time. Great job guys!! More gameknights!!
These episodes are great, top notch production quality, and super engaging can't wait for the next one. Cassius' deck was just an all purpose toolbox of bombs, this is what happens when rich people play magic lol
Guys, your gameplay videos are simply amazing. Brilliantly edited, really fun. I've found this channel through them and it's a shame that there are so few. Hope you'll keep making them!
First off, this episode is tied with #5 for your best ever. The guests, the banter, the decks, the game play, the production values...they are just all superb. Second, on behalf of Mia I just have to thank you for the way you featured her Germ token. I knew from Mel that the token would be in the game, but I didn't tell Mia. I wish you could have seen her face when it appeared on screen. :)
I must say, I've been. Lee entertained with this episode; and series in general; then anything I've watched on TV in months. thank you for such a great show.
Wow man, was refreshing to see an NFL athlete playing Magic and actually playing well. Nice to show people that it's not only fat nerds with glasses that play MTG. (Tho there's really nothing wrong if you are a fat nerd with glasses, to be honest.) Once again, a great video, best commander content on youtube right now, hands down. Not a lot of videos but I feel like you guys are trying to make more of them and that's just great.
I am like, the only fat guy i know that plays Magic, and I've been working on losing weight too. Pretty sure that's just a stereotype that fat guys with glasses are the only MTG players.
oh from tolarian college professor I follow his channel from his sleeve and deck box reviews. so it was in my recommendations to watch ...so i now sub just to watch these when there on. i like how is very well film and the feed back on each play make it entertaining for someone who doesnt know anything about the game.
Not a sports guy, but that is totally awesome to know that Cassius plays magic! And not to mention he was running Samut as his commander! I just pulled a foil one at prerelease and built a commander deck for her as well. Interesting to see which direction Cassius took it in, but I built a Naya human tribal deck with her! Will be testing it out sometime next week against my friends, but it seems pretty powerful! And Mel Li is a cutie! 😁 Awesome video, you guys always put up the best commander gameplay, keep up the amazing work! Love you guys!

MestHoop Yeah the Living Weapon thing was super smart. I definitely would not have thought of that.
GAME KNIGHTS IS BACK PRAISE BE
...THE GOD PHARAOH!
jqxok may his return come quickly
And may we be found worthy
And may be we found worthy...

I just want to say you guys do a fantastic job, and made me rethink Commander as a format. The amount of fun and explosiveness you display goes a long way! Also thanks for being good sports even when you're down, it's something the Magic community needs more of.
Jimmy you need to build a lands deck cause then you'll get all the lands
Agreed. -jimmy
The Command Zone idea- borborygmos with 99 lands, enjoy
The Command Zone Jimmy were u in /all chat?
Yeah he was and they also had Josh/xell a few times White Mask
The Command Zone what shirt was jimmy wearing in this video?
"Josh has one of the swolest snakes I've ever seen." - Game Knights 2017
Dude Cassius Marsh is a BEAST
Mr. Turn 3 Ugin
i wonder how it would of went if he wiped
Jason L that made me cry it was beautiful

FANBOI POWERS, ACTIVATE!
When you sacrifice Neheb to make a player discard, you only get the 0/1 from Pawn of Ulamog if you let Neheb go to the graveyard (since sending it to the command zone is a replacement effect of dying, which is going to the graveyard).
I really liked the fact that a magic player could come from anywhere.
I'm always amazed how good these episodes are, specially the editing. Congrats.
I love this series. Out of all of my choices to watch commander, this one is my favorite. I hope you can continue to do this, and I'll be sure to use your affiliate link if it keeps it coming
Such a great match! Took me a whole day to watch between work and pausing to review all the cards but I can't wait for more episodes!
Fell in love with Hapatra when I saw her spoiler. Josh proved it was everything I had envisioned, and more
Wow the production on this show has changed through the years. Great episode. Love the show.
As someone who just discovered your channel and already binged on all of the other Game Knight videos...ive never clicked a vid faster haha
I rewatched this video recently and that ending bit of Jimmy talking about Magic being shared language was really impactful. I'm in Korea and can't speak the language but I've played several games of edh with some locals at card shops and it was just as much fun as back home. Love this channel a ton!
excellent video in style and format. you guys are the best at bringing these games to life!
Your editing and formatting is simply amazing and makes me want to watch so much more content! Showing off all of the cards involved, so great
Josh and Jimmy - Really liked this episode! Really cool decks from everybody, and the guests were super fun as always!
TheTrueRedDragon I mean, if you're an NFL player, you'd get big moneysss
Guys, your gameplay videos are simply amazing. Brilliantly edited, really fun. I've found this channel through them and it's a shame that there are so few. Hope you'll keep making them!
This series is great. You guys made it a lot easier for me to pick up the format with all the cool content you put out.
The production value in these episodes is amazing, as are the guests!
Mel has the most Disney voice I've heard from people
This may be one of my favorite episodes of game knights yet.
Cassius should do the show again and bring Doug Baldwin.
I'd watch these all day. The production value is so high!! It comes off that way at least!!
Thank you!
jqxok I wish we could have seen it too! Tell her we're big fans of hers!
Josh Lee Kwai good guy josh strikes again
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series. Props for making the video flow so well, great editing. 10/10 keep up the good work fellas.
Turn 3 Eugene...amazing
Giovanni Arena Amazing-ly brutal!
This is defn my favorite game knights episode. These guests are hella chill
Lol, when one of Jimmy's best plays is a sad robot
I must say, I've been. Lee entertained with this episode; and series in general; then anything I've watched on TV in months. thank you for such a great show.
Wow man, was refreshing to see an NFL athlete playing Magic and actually playing well. Nice to show people that it's not only fat nerds with glasses that play MTG. (Tho there's really nothing wrong if you are a fat nerd with glasses, to be honest.)
Once again, a great video, best commander content on youtube right now, hands down. Not a lot of videos but I feel like you guys are trying to make more of them and that's just great.
I’m not fat and I play it
I am like, the only fat guy i know that plays Magic, and I've been working on losing weight too. Pretty sure that's just a stereotype that fat guys with glasses are the only MTG players.
R.A. Klein II good for you bro keep it up :)
Definitely the best mtg gameplay vids out there. Josh and Jimmy bringing MTG to the next level production wise :)
"The minotaurs are coming back"
Oh, right. Jimmy is playing minotaurs
This is still one of my most favorite Game Knights! It's a really fun game with much going on, great interaction, great to watch!
I have no idea about magic..but i use this as my background noise to keep me focus idk why x-x but is pretty entertaining to listen
That's awesome to hear! If you're not into Magic - how did you find us, if you don't me me asking?
oh from tolarian college professor
I follow his channel from his sleeve and deck box reviews.
so it was in my recommendations to watch ...so i now sub just to watch these when there on.
i like how is very well film and the feed back on each play make it entertaining for someone who doesnt know anything about the game.
9:20 caught you Josh!
Beautiful episode. I laughed a lot. Well peaced and well timed editing. I liked the honest cheesiness in the end. Well done people, really well done.
Propaganda, monarchy... that azorius deck is a little too much into fascism.
-Monarchy
-fascism
Lol good joke made, but you can't have both
Wesley You donkey. Italy? Spain?
@@smithmiddleton8893 Spain the country that erupted in a civil war between the communists and the elite? Yes that just screams fascism. The elite were supported by fascist parties because they opposed the communist parties, bot because they supported the monarchy.
They were enemies of my enemies. I mean, you won't claim that the USSR and the allies worked together because communism and democracy worked so well together right?
And Italy was ruled by a fascist dictator, not a monarch. It was a constitutional monarchy only in name for neither the monarch nor the constitution mattered to mussolini.
So no.
Arguing that Monarchy didn't benefit from Fascism in these countries or that Fascism isn't pro-monarchy is just ahistorical.
@@wesleyw7908
-You can't have both
It's not about wether the king matters(which did matter in the opposal to Mussolini AND in the Empire of Japan), but about the fact that you can have both.
OMG thank you! thank you! thank you! thank you! Been looking for people playing magic at a slow pace and dissecting the game enough so I understand! I love the commentary.
This was the BEST episode yet
Best game knights yet! The sheer length of this game made it great to watch
Josh you been working out? Arms looking swoll like those snakes
Awesome video again
Jerome OfMarmite Thanks for noticing! Still got some work to do next to Cassius though 😜
fyi, i am sure you guys didnt already know this but you're one of the best mtg channels on youtube, and for me #1 when it comes to showing gameplay video.
I really want a copy Mel's shirt after i saw it.
Loving the Hapatra engine. This was a really fun game and each deck (even Jimmy's after his slow start) had a chance to shine.
YESSSS I've been waiting for a new Game Knights!!!
This was a very good match to watch. I am very glad to have found this channel and will pass the word to peeps in my group!!!
Craterhoof sounds like the groans of every opponent at the table.
Absolutely love watching you guys battle it out in MTG! I will definitely use your code when I buy cards! Happy to support this show!
Holy shit a NFL player plays magic? this is confusing.
Gary You would be surprised at the people who play
another has an anime body pillow
I personally know quite a few athletes that play the game - the beauty of Magic is there are very few restrictions to play, even if you don't speak the same language, the rules remain the same! - jimmy
if you're surprised by that, you should probably know that Samuel L Jackson likes hentai......open your eyes and see the world
Oh crap I actually got a reply, Thanks jimmy!
To those of you questioning why I was surprised, It's just the fact that MTG is enforced as a nerdy sort of thing, which comes to be the polar opposite of football.
I can't begin to say how much I loved this episode. Unbelievable. I'll be joining your patreon this month for sure. Thanks for all you do!!!!
When's your Netflix deal for this going through?
That "Welcome to Game Knights!" tradition never gets old! It's so funny and clever! I love it!
If Wickerbough comes into play with the -1/-1 counter would Hapatra trigger? You never placed the counter, it came in with it.
Old comment but yes. Same way cards like Hardened Scales work.
