I really don't know why everyone seems surprised at this performance! If you've been a Shirley fan like I have for 60 years and counting you'd know this lady is capable of anything! And in a career of 66 years she's proved it time and time again. Phenomenal.
It was cute! No disrespect to Ms. Bassey because I love her body of work. But she only has style of singing that comes across when I hear hear her, Pop, rock, Rhythm and blues is not it. But as fan and people like yourself, and other people like me who is open to all styles and sounds of music would only appreciate the effort. There is only one Diva! God rest her soul, that was able to do it all and capture all generations of fans despite her horrific addiction that messed with her voice over the years and tragic murder by the powers that be, is Ms. Whitney Houston. Like her or not! Respect her or not, deny it, or agree with me! No one could never take that from her until the next one comes along in the future.

Pink's version was more "in your face" and sweaty...the kind of song that makes you move till you sweat on the dance floor. Shirley's version is more polished and sophisticated The best version depends on your perceptions. Different strokes for different folks! This is a fantastic cover, but I think what I love the most is that she is obviously having a wonderful time doing it. :) As a side note, it's nice to see men used in a synchronized floor routine (as opposed to the usual scantly clad women), and the choregraphy and visuals are equally classy and well executed.
I was going through a bad time 15 years ago, and this performance was such a wonderful escapist listen. Now in 2023, I'm happier in every dimension of my life and it's good to go back to pay homage to this ELECTRIC woman and her voice.
