Just been watching your video for the first time, thoroughly enjoying it. I enjoy cab rides in train videos, it's even better when there is a commentary like the way you have done. Great job. I have subscribed. I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and there is Metro train system, i have a channel which i have filmed the Metro journey. Great job mate.
@dalecharmantravels8057 Great viewing, I've used the Pic on many occasions as we live in Herts and C/Fosters has got a good car park. Can you tell me what the clicking is when pulling into stations ? Brakes I guess but .....??????
Dale, I live in Peterlee in County Durham that's on the Durham Coast Line that runs between Newcastle and Middlesbrough, what's unique about the Tyne and Wear Metro is they share the track on the Durham Coast Line between Pelaw and Sunderland. Kim McGuinness, the new North East Mayor wants to run extend the Metro to serve Washington on part of the old Sunderland to Durham line, and the old Leamside Line.
LOL at the crows who know how to board the train & exit when the chimes ring! Hope you enjoy your time in Australia when you come in a few weeks. We have a vast train network here also, but not as great as the UK lines, nor as busy. Your knowledge of the stations & everything in general is vast. Always a pleasure! Thank you for the (free) rides!
I’m new to your channel and find it simply fascinating … Back in the early 60s my Grandma lived around the corner from the Old Vic, and whenever we went to stay with her and would say I’m popping out to play. Little did they know I was running round to Waterloo station and jump on the Underground. If mum had known I’m sure she would have given me a good telling off… I spent hours travelling all over the place and jumped on and off at stations now no longer used. The underground has always fascinated me and I often wished I had been a driver. These days I can only watch videos like yours “or’” secrets of the London Underground. Now in my 70’s you have kind of made my dream come true. Thank you so much for sharing your trips, you’ve made me very happy 👍🍻
I agree rude comments are uncalled for and not what this channel is about. But for heavens sake if you leave a thumbs down say why you didn’t like it without being rude… Keep up with these fascinating videos Dale because the vast majority of viewers enjoy what you do 👍
In the 60's - 80's I lived in one of those houses on the left after leaving Hounslow Central and in to the 70's you would still see 'lost' District Line trains presumably stopped where you mentioned. Never used to really hear the trains but when maintenance was done in the middle of the night that was really noisy! Luckily only one or two nights every few years. Missed the old red trains when they stopped running. We would sit in the garden and watch the planes coming in to land. At the time the house was in the middle of two landing flight paths so again the noise was minimal. Saw both Concorde and the Jumbo Jet’s first arrivals in to Heathrow.
Mate, as an Aussie coming to London in May-June and intent on getting a selfie at as many underground stations as possible over a seven day period - all i can say is, this is amazing stuff!! More like it please! I just randomly discovered your channel but have already subscribed and will be watching everything you put out! Enjoy your time over here when you come :)
I always loved the tube, visited London many times... Flew in from Switzerland, now living in the USA and still remembery times in London... Thank you for all you tube videos, makes me so happy and you help me to live one of my childhood dreams, drive a train, or even better a tube on London... All the best to you and thank you again for your videos, really enjoyed them!!!
I'm from New York City and for a short while worked for The New York City Transit Authority as a Station Agent. I've always been fascinated with Subway or Metros or Tubes. It's all the same with differing geographic names. Your video is highly informative and in 2010 I had the pleasure to ride that very line from Heathrow into the Center City. I also took the Jubilee Line north to St John's Wood to see The Beatles Abby Rd Studio. I noticed you did have some 4 track express service and your trains seem to run frequently. London has generally a cleaner system than New Yorks but New York has 24 hour service. 😳 How do working class people there get home after a night at the pub!! ??😂 ..😊..I enjoyed watching!!
Having been on that and other Underground lines and USA systems (NYC, LIRR, MTA, BART, Metro, etc etc). it’s fun to see the running and signaling similarities and differences. Thank you. 😀
Loving your videos. I grewu up in Montral Canada and have always been fascinated with the Montral Metro, and trains in general. I have always wanted to visit London. I am 57 years old and so far haven’t had the chance, but riding on your train I get to see London, and ride the rails at the same time. I love to sit and watch for hours. Thank you.
Hi from Durban South Africa. Great to remember the the underground .I left the UK 40 years ago but still have fond memories of travelling on the underground . Watching your excellent video brings it all back to me. looking forward to your next .
The Piccadilly Line was my first experience on the Tube! I took a UK vacation in 2019 and took the Piccadilly line from Terminal 5. As what we Americans call a "rail fan," the Underground is a very different and unique experience. Overall, I loved it and I love these videos.
I have a sentimental attachment to the Pic due to my frequent touristic visits. The Liz has largely replaced for me, depending on where I am staying. I know the sleep deprived feeling of getting onto the tube and settled, but dang, some people ARE obliviots and I am chuffed ( and not surprised) to hear crows know better
Hi from Italy!! I'm always been in love with London and find the tube very fascinating, the history, the train, how it work. I really enjoy your video's, and you're definitely going on the subscribe list of my favourite tube-tuber with Geoff and Jago. Keep going on with this amazing video!!!
I went from Rayners Lane to Hatton X (via Acton Town) from when Hatton X opened until around 1981. I worked in what was No2 Maintenance Area - which disappeared when Terminal 4 was built. This trip was pure nostalgia - with a few new bits on the T5 branch.
Brilliant content, I am a driver from Sydney , Australia and I enjoyed your point of view . I especially appreciate the commentary which is quite uncommon for this type of channel . looking forward to more of the same . Thank you
I have no idea how i ended up on this video, but really enjoyed it, thanks for explaining those things that i've always wondered about when on a tube train :)
Thanks for doing this line Dale. I went on it from Russell Square to Heathrow No 3 in 2012 just before the Olympics and so enjoyed going on the tube train. I was supposed to be picked up to and from the airport but my travel agency didn't book it right but the airport staff said my hotel was on this line and I enjoyed the train trip and all this has brought back those memories . Much different than our Australian Rail system specially with signaling in NSW where I'm from.
Thanks I enjoyed your video. In the early 1970’s I was a ROA on London Transport and had the good fortune of working in the Northfields Signal Cabin. For me it was a fantastic time and I remember visiting the cabin at Boston Manor with a signalman and station master. London Transport was a great place then and I have very fond memories of my time and also the training centre at White City, Peter Ursell being one of the trainers…
Love this channel. As a Pic line regular it brings back memories, and l love all the tech info and the little asides and tips! Keep up the good work, l look forward to seeing more! 😀
This video and the last definitely earned a like and subscribe from me. As a fellow railwayman (working on the national rail network) I have to say, your insightful commentary really made it for me. You're coverage of the Piccadilly line is making me sincerely hope that you have friends who drive other Underground lines that are willing to film their journeys for you to add your commentary too in future :)
Thank you. Trying to film other lines is a little more tricky. 1 I don’t know the stocks or lines so would find it that much harder to talk about things. Plus most people don’t want to be seen or heard on camera. However never say never
I was a young lad in the early 60s and often using a red (buses) or twin rover quite often went using the Piccadilly and District lines to Hounslow West which I believe was slightly relocated for the Heathrow extension. Also remember the two car trains on the Northern City line with their depot at Drayton Park. The NC platforms at Finsbury Park are now the west/southbound platforms for the Piccadilly and Victoria lines.
The commentary is great, always good to get an insight into the ongoings and workings of the job, many cab ride videos are silent with subtitles only! Look forward to seeing (and hearing) more content 👍🏻
Dale, thank you so much for this video(and for the reply to my question the other day). Please keep doing these cabride videos, the comments are much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow this brought back many memories! I used to travel from South East London to Heathrow most weekends in the early 2000s with my nephew who was a toddler at the time (He turned 24 today!) - Always got the Picc from Green Park to Heathrow, so nice to see the journey from a different perspective! Don't get to do it these days as I now live in Edinburgh! - Felt the same excitement watching this as I did back then getting closer to Heathrow, with the planes getting lower and closer! Thanks and keep up the good work ;)
I have just found your channel and watched this video. I found it really interesting. Coming from the Isle of Wight I have a real fascination for London's rail network, it's good to see from the driver's viewpoint and your commentary is great in pointing different things out, it's almost like riding the service yourself. My wife and I did travel on this line a year ago so it was good to pick out the bits I remembered from then. Thanks.
I've just started watching your videos. I work on the GWR main line and find it interesting to compare the different signalling systems, etc. Keep 'em coming!
Nice video man. Really enjoy how you give little bits historic information as you drive along the track, interesting to see what "Used to be" makes me want to go look it up more details.
Im new to your channel from perth Western Australia, always been fascinated by the londen train network and your videos have given me a real insight into how it all works , very enjoyable appreciate your effort thankyou 🙏
Ah, now that brings back memories. I grew up in Heston between 1959 and 1968 so Hounslow West was the nearest local station. I remember seeing the "new" silver trains (1959/62 stock) coming in and also recall at least once seeing what I now know to have been a Standard Stock train in the station. Of course, back Hounslow West was the terminus of the line though, by the time my family moved away from London, they had just started to build the new tunnels for the extension to Heathrow. Fantastic stuff, many thanks for posting. I keep telling myself to stop subscribing to all these UA-cam channels - I obviously didn't listen to myself after watching this one and subscribed! 🙂
Absolutely lovely videos, thank you Dale! I love watching, the Piccadilly line has always been a favourite of mine. Thank you for sharing and safe journeys ahead!
Watched some of your videos recently love the commentary of your journeys I live in west London so have Been on tube many times. Also love things about underground I've not known before I've subscribed
I've got the Video 125 DVD of the Piccadilly Line from Rayners Lane to Cockfosters and Acton Town to Heathrow Terminals 4 & 123. Good to go the other way through the tunnels!
Howdy Dale - just watching this video and you actually answered a question I asked on one of your other clips about the little car markers. Thanks for the tidbits and it totally makes sense 🙂
We took the Piccadilly line to Kings Cross in 2015. Sure do miss London and would love to visit again...maybe soon! Thank you so much for the video, and the commentary. Excellent work!
Found your channel on the first part of this video from Cockfosters to Northfields. Find your commentary useful, interesting and informative. Enjoyed watching it a lot more than i imagined i would. Also pleased to hear you mention the new trains especially as i am from Goole where the new ones are currently being built. All the best and will be looking through you older videos to see what i've missed. Take care
I enjoyed the trip on the underground with you and the History of some of the stations and other parts of the underground. Look forward to another trip with you.
Loved watching it. I lived in Boston manor and when working in the city would ride the Piccadilly many times. Seen an close call once. As I'm sure you know people pick the best place to stand when getting on the train so they don't have to walk to long along the platform when they exit. Doing this exact thing back in the 1980s standing at the end of the drivers end of the platform. One tube exited the station and before it left a second train entered the station at speed and it just missed the end of the last train. I almost thought I'm going to die. Thank you for the video always liked the idea of the driver's point of view
Another cracking vid, I love your banter, and thanks for taking the time to film it, edit it, and post it up Dale. Oh my boy said miss a payment on your Merc, and buy yourself a decent low-visibility 4K camera for night vids... lol Ha Ha 😄
Just stumbled upon your videos today. I've always enjoyed locomotive cab videos, and these are great! I especially enjoy the commentary. About 8 years ago, I was in the UK for the first time and rode the Piccadilly line from LHR to Earl's Court, as well as other places around London. Very impressive, world-class system. Still have my Oyster card!
New viewer here you do an amazing job thank you for your content and information these videos make me so calm and relaxed thank you from New Jersey USA
It's probably worth mentioning that the Heathrow branch of the Piccadilly Line was never originally intended for Piccadilly Line trains. Instead District Line trains initially used it exclusively. The newly extended Piccadilly Line was originally planned to end at Northfields, hence the quadruple tracks to there from Acton Town, with just District line trains continuing to Hounslow West. In the event, Piccadilly Line trains started running to Hounslow West from March 1933. The District Line services to Hounslow West were gradually reduced in the 1950s and eventually the service ran during the peak hours only by the1960s. The last District Line services to Hounslow West ran 9th October 1964. Hounslow West station when first built, consisted of three terminal platforms at the rear of the station building and connected with staircases to the street level station building. The extension firstly to Hatton Cross, then later to Heathrow itself re-sited the platforms in a cut cover section immediately north of the terminal platforms. For this to come into use a new metal clad covered walkway came into use to serve the new platforms. Following this the tracks were removed from the three (now disused) terminal open-air platforms, which were then, together with the stairwells that served them, demolished but still retaining the street level station building. The area occupied by the old terminal platforms was then infilled in to form a station car park.
No amount of colour information is too small. Those who know the area might think it’s too much, but, we of the colonies cannot get enough. I was 35years with NZ railways and we STILL use a lot of your equipment. Great posts, keep them coming. 😊. 👍
Really enjoyed these 2 Picc videos. New to your channel and I really enjoy hearing the inside scoop from your commentary. I've not heard anything like this with tube Driver's Eye vids, so I've really enjoyed them. Hope to see more!
I caught one of these for the first time last night (probably because I’ve watched UA-cams from @tressteleg1 and @driver667 who are Australian train and tram drivers. Tressteleg1 does Melbourne and Sydney metro trains in the same way as these - no audio commentary though - plus Melbourne trams. Quite nostalgic for the Melbourne trips , having lived there till I retired in 2015. Driver667 does Victorian regional trains and Melbourne suburban trains. The train platforms in London seem quite a bit longer…probably just based on history, and it’d be expensive to buy the real estate to extend them. One feature of Melbourne transport was the number of level crossings - where the train line crosses the roadway, but the Vic government has removed a large number over the last ten years, either by raising or lowering the railway line. I enjoy this type of video. Will have to check the central London vids.
I remember being very exited as a schoolboy traveling daily on this line to see the "New trains" back when they were first introduced in 1975. Far better then the old silver '58 stock and a huge improvement on the old red '38 stock. Now there's to be yet another new generation of trains. I wont be able to recognise the old place when I visit next! (I moved out of london in 1997!)
Very nice Cab View M8! I love the underground stuff and the awesome commentary that you add to it! I live in Waterville, Maine USA. If I want to experience underground railways I would have to travel 300 miles SE to Boston, Massachusetts and rider the Green Blue or Red Subway trains! Keep the great 4K Vids coming and I will keep watching!!!!
i really like these videos alot especially hearing all the details about signal types etc. its really interesting. The crows at Cockfosters now that really funny and it really makes you think how people are so indecisive even when its something so simple but they get it. nice job im hooked
No. If a signal goes red in front of you there is every chance you will go through it and become tripped on the train stop. That’s where the air is released from the brakes brining them all on
I take the Piccadilly almost every day from T5 to Hounslow East (Hounslow garage bus driver) and finally got to see the T5 sidings. A big thank you for that! I always wanted to drive the Underground trains, but there's never any outside jobs advertised. So I guess I'll have to stay on the buses then :)
I just had to watch this after seeing the previous video Cockfosters to Northfields. Very interesting, especially the lines through Heathrow. Something that caught my eye was several large "not in use" signs, the last being at Hounslow West on the wall opposite the platform, but it didn't appear to have anything near to which it might refer. What are these for. As a young kid, I do remember the District Line trains at Hounslow West when it was an above ground station before the rebuild. My grandfather took me (from Bounds Green) to see the airport after changing to a bus outside the station at Hounslow West. Enjoy your Australian Holiday.
The not in use signs will be the new stopping marks for the new 24 stock trains which will be slightly longer than the current 1973 stock They are due some time in 2025

I am glad you didn't listen and you subscribed. It is good to have you with us
The combination of your narrative plus the footage is very relaxing. I live in solihull and due a london trip soon. Take care and great content! 😊
Thank you for the great video.
I live in Australia but have risen on the Tube a few time over the years and very much enjoyed the drivers eye view.
Absolutely lovely videos, thank you Dale! I love watching, the Piccadilly line has always been a favourite of mine. Thank you for sharing and safe journeys ahead!
Thank you
Watched some of your videos recently love the commentary of your journeys I live in west London so have Been on tube many times. Also love things about underground I've not known before I've subscribed
I've got the Video 125 DVD of the Piccadilly Line from Rayners Lane to Cockfosters and Acton Town to Heathrow Terminals 4 & 123. Good to go the other way through the tunnels!
Glad you enjoyed it
I really enjoy these videos, thank you so much !!
You are most welcome
i found this video a fascinating look behind the scenes (Or at least from a POV not normally afforded members of the public) at London Underground
Enjoying your videos. I find all the details and insights very fascinating.
Thank you
Howdy Dale - just watching this video and you actually answered a question I asked on one of your other clips about the little car markers. Thanks for the tidbits and it totally makes sense 🙂
I love this guy
😊😊
😁😁😁
What a lovely ride! Thank you!
We took the Piccadilly line to Kings Cross in 2015. Sure do miss London and would love to visit again...maybe soon! Thank you so much for the video, and the commentary. Excellent work!
Thank you I appreciate that
Found your channel on the first part of this video from Cockfosters to Northfields. Find your commentary useful, interesting and informative. Enjoyed watching it a lot more than i imagined i would. Also pleased to hear you mention the new trains especially as i am from Goole where the new ones are currently being built. All the best and will be looking through you older videos to see what i've missed. Take care
Thank you for reaching out. It’s great that you enjoy these videos

Loving the videos so far and your commentary about the different stations and lines too good Work so far 😊
Thank you
I do enjoy drivers videos from the tube. Boston Manor is my station and the Pic has always been my favorite line. Thanks for sharing.
Being a railway enthusiast, i really enjoyed these insights videos of London tube network. Please make more videos like these mate. Love from India❤
Hello India. I do have a few more videos of the pic line out soon
This was a really interesting video. Getting to see the line from your visual perspective and with yourv interesting commentary was great.
Thank you I am glad you enjoyed it
Hi Dale, thanks for your vid, I have used this line many times to and from Heathrow, nice to see it from the front.
Dale: Thanks for the view of my old office at Boston Manor. It looks the same as it did in the 70's.
A remarkable insight into the life of a tube driver, it would be difficult to find a better introduction to the Piccadilly Line.
Nothing you say is useless.
Agree. All information is a gem, l watch for the useful tech stuff and the little asides, you never know when these tips will come in handy!
@@evelynsutton4411 yeah I enjoy it too, it's very informative to have insider information.
Really enjoyed this.
Just one question, how do you cope going from bright sunlight to darkness ?
Just found your channel. This was everything a cab ride should be - entertaining, informative and immersive.
Thank you I appreciate that
Loved watching it.
That’s a scary situation. Trains can’t get that close now days.
Another cracking vid, I love your banter, and thanks for taking the time to film it, edit it, and post it up Dale. Oh my boy said miss a payment on your Merc, and buy yourself a decent low-visibility 4K camera for night vids... lol Ha Ha 😄
If I did that I wouldn’t have a car to get to work and film any thing. 🤣🤣
Thank you for sharing your memories of using the pic line
I am enjoying this as I will be riding the Piccadily train from Heathrow in June coming from the states ,this gets me accustomed to what I will see.
I hope you have a great trip and journey on the pic line
Good day Dale
I really appreciate your videos Last time I was on the tube I was 14 and now I’m 57 and enjoy the flash backs
You are most welcome
New viewer here you do an amazing job thank you for your content and information these videos make me so calm and relaxed thank you from New Jersey USA
Thank you I am glad you enjoy them
Really enjoyed watching your second video of the Piccadilly line 😊
Thank you for that. It was all a little before my time. I appreciate you sharing the history with me
No amount of colour information is too small. Those who know the area might think it’s too much, but, we of the colonies cannot get enough.
I was 35years with NZ railways and we STILL use a lot of your equipment. Great posts, keep them coming. 😊. 👍
I am glad you are enjoying these videos
Loving the content, full of interesting information keep up the good work 👍
Thanks so much Dave. At 25:45 it was great to see the points move.
Really enjoying the videos and have subscribed. Looking forward to many more!
Thank you and welcome to the channel
Thank you again especially for showing the procedure. At T5 really interesting. commentary. Is fantastic big up to you
Thank you
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Pleasure thank you
Really enjoyed these 2 Picc videos. New to your channel and I really enjoy hearing the inside scoop from your commentary. I've not heard anything like this with tube Driver's Eye vids, so I've really enjoyed them. Hope to see more!
Thank you
I love this. Please give the driving priority. Skip commenting whenever necessary. I just makes the footage better and loads it with reality!
Look forward to you showing us the new trains and to hear your review.
Thank you for reaching out. There will be a handful of new underground videos coming out once I am able to get them filmed
i really like these videos alot especially hearing all the details about signal types etc. its really interesting. The crows at Cockfosters now that really funny and it really makes you think how people are so indecisive even when its something so simple but they get it.
nice job im hooked
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video
I am loving these videos. I will admit to being a grade A anorak.....loving the pane spotting too.
Really enjoy your video! makes me want to go back to the UK :) Love the cab view and commentary
Thank you
If a signal turned red two seconds before a train running at 45 mph reached it, could it still be stopped before the obstruction?
No. If a signal goes red in front of you there is every chance you will go through it and become tripped on the train stop. That’s where the air is released from the brakes brining them all on
Great job on the video and commentary, keep up the good work!
Rumour is they will be advertising externally. No idea how true it is
I just had to watch this after seeing the previous video Cockfosters to Northfields.
The not in use signs will be the new stopping marks for the new 24 stock trains which will be slightly longer than the current 1973 stock They are due some time in 2025
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Thanks for the info.
Not a problem. Enjoy the rest of your day
