Same, but I'm glad he did this video. So many viewers get so caught up in the ratings they miss the whole point of the video: the review. The rating part has always just been a little bit of fun at the end, never the point of Jeremy's reviews
Honestly I was confused the first time he gave a movie a forget in t-minus *time like a year ago. Clearly a negative rating but how negative? Lol. The rest is pretty much self explanatory.
That's how I understood his ratings, he wanted it to be ambiguous because the rating is NOT the point of the video, the review is. The only ratings that matter are dogshit and awesometacular
That's how I feel, which is why I appreciate Jeremy's attempt to circumvent the rating system, as unsuccessful it might have been. What Jeremy (or any other reviewer) likes/doesn't like is not the same as my taste. I've read reviews giving a movie a bad rating and decided that to me it sounds fun and vice versa.
Ever since finding your channel I've grown fond of the "unquantifiable sentences" rating structure. It has actually changed the way I talk about movies with people for the better. Thanks Jeremy!
I feel that "No Alcohol Required" and "A good time if youre drunk" splits the difference between Transporter 1 and Expendables. A competent but largely unneccesary action movie versus a flawed one with some merit within it.
Yeah I feel that rating basically means it's a movie you'd watch if it was on tv or you were bored and you stumbled upon it on Netflix but it's not something you'd go out of your way to watch.
I don't get why pepole are complaining, Jeremy's rating system is part of what makes his channel original and unquie. It sets him apart from other movie review channels which I see as a good thing.
I'm just here to remind everyone that Vegeta is the prince of All Saiyans. And I think it's appalling, extremely disrespectful that Jeremy Jahns started this video without mentioning it.
You made a video explaining your rating system that I already understood and now everybody understands so I no longer have an advantage over everyone else Unsubscribed.
Honestly I always thought it was fun that the only way a viewer would understand your rating system is if they saw enough of your reviews to eventually piece it together themselves. It was like a subscriber's rite of passage that you had to earn for yourself lol. Also 'Tour De Force' was a great category that should've stuck around. It would fill up that middle spot of 'polarizing and not for everyone, but with some clear talent and merit behind it'. Though I can see how it could have turned into a crutch rating for just about any 'artistic' film.
Lol earned mine 2012, or whenever ever Ted came out, cause that was the first time I ever typed in UA-cam “Movie review for Ted.” Been subscribed ever since 😂
I remember the “I’m not fucking around!” days, so I was there when the rating system appeared. My first response and my response still is that it’s the best rating system out there.
From what I originally assumed: Dogshit- self explanatory Forget about in T-minus: it's forgettable Better if drunk: really dumb but could be so bad it's good Good time no alcohol required: overall decent film Blueray: quality film Awesometacular: damn good movie. But hey good clarification
I would say "Better if drunk" are movies that are so bad its good or dumb movies . Sometime those are just movie that will work only if you are a fan of the genre. Dependin on who you are those movie can still be worth watching and/or recommending.
No you got it wrong again. No alcohol required doesn't mean decent, it's good. Decent is just an occasion of what qualifies as good in this rating system. It could be a cinematic masterpiece but with no personal connection to Jeremy specifically, so he's pretty certain he would not watch it again (in other words, buy it) and that he didn't leave the theater in subjective excitement.
You could do with one or two more like *"A Roller Coaster Ride"* - It has highs, it has lows and sometimes has twists. By the end, it can be enjoyable or it can make you want to throw up.
That's kind of what happens when your fan base gets larger. Plus, things are much more polarized today than they were back then. Maybe that also has something to do with it.
your rating system is one of the reasons why when I first found you I watched every single one of your videos. they were entertaining and I wanted to understand that rating system. It's so unique yet so relatable
I actually prefer this 'rating' system. It give an idea how to view the movie. I got a friend who is just as big a movie nerd as I am, I always use more of these sort of rating, instead of his numbers (it made our heads buts a few times :D). A few things I also like to use are 'worth watching in cinema', 'worth watching in 3D', 'worth watching multiple times', and 'a commercial movie with no soul' (which is something between 'dogshit', 'alcohol required', and 'nothingness' :P). But I'm absolutely not a movie critic (through I like to pretend to be one after watching a movie and annoy anyone I watch the movie with).
NeonTime the issue is the rating of fresh or rotten is binary, but then they display it was a percentage, giving the false perception of a scale rating. Something with 80% looks better than 60%, even though both are fresh, and the 60% might even have a similar or higher rating score, but you can't even see the rating score unless you view the page is desktop mode.
Rotten Tomato serves its purpose. I want to see a general consensus on a film. It tells you whether it was well received, mixed, or poorly received on average by critics.
It's my favorite rating system on UA-cam because I think it's not really possible to rate a movie only with numbers. How do you rate two movies when you like one movie more and want to watch it again immediately but you think the other movie might be the better one. Jeremy's system bypasses this problem perfectly.
I'm in the middle of developing my own rating system to go along with my podcast's aesthetics, so this was in a way very helpful. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do something more traditional but now looking at it, I think it's more fun to do something similar like this.
I never had an issue with your rating, i thought it was pretty clear Dogshit=0 (shit) T-minus 1=1 (forgettable) Drunk=2 (needs a mindset for it to be fun and entertaining) No alcohol=3 (fun and entertaining) BlueRay=4 (good enough to care/spend money) Awesometacular=5 (yea, awesometacular says it all)
You have a rating system? I thought at the end you just tell us whether we should get drunk before watching a movie 😆 Also we demand more Tales from the commend section videos!
you're being reasonable with your reviews, you're the one i always consult before checking a certain movie, i know sometimes i can't agree with you 100% but you are my basis for movies, i thought it was the most basic way to understand your rating, i can't believe people are stupid enough to not understand how your ratings work.
Jeremy is one of the few movie reviewers I subscribe to because his reviews are short, convenient, and to the point (and also because he's dang funny), while most other reviewers like Angry Joe take at least half an hour to review 1 movie.
Well, for star wars and batman v superman there's over an hour's worth to talk about. For insidious the last key, there's barely 3 minutes. Depends what he's reviewing.
Wellllll guess what Jeremy you forgot about the rating "Tour DE Force" which you gave to "killing Them Softly" back in 2012 exactly one year before I stared watching, so WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT?
patrick sanderson if you click the subscribe button, you're a real subscriber... I think what you meant to say was people who have been here longer understand the rating system.
I´m proud to say I remember when you started this rating system, and I've always found it self explanatory, cool and original...Damn, I just realiced I've been watching you for a very long time!! PS: We love you too Jeremy
Yeah but Black mirror is so different episode to episode he would have to do individual reviews of each episode. He couldn't just do a whole season like he did with Stranger things.
But if you already know that the series is awesome why do you need the review? Wouldn't it be better to reviews brand new series, like "The End Of The Fucking World" or "Dark", instead of one that's been going for 4 years?
I remember when you first made the rating system I can’t believe it’s been so long. I loved your reviews because they gave an honest impression and you didn’t need a rating because people always skip to the end for the number. Regardless you made a system that subverted that expectation. Even knowing that I’ve slowly placed them into that hierarchy. It’s nice to have a refresher on what you originally intended for your ratings.
Yeah... your rating system never confused me. It feels very situational. Like the feelings you'd have upon leaving the theatre. Disappointing films are either dogshit or just purely forgettable. Great films that leave you lost for words are awesometacular or at the very least worth buying on blu ray. Then there's the middle of the road films that alcohol may or may not make better. So yeah if there are people who are confused by Jeremy's rating system just need to judge his rating by the context laid out in the review... or just need this video to spoon feed their dumbasses.
You know, the irony of your statement is that you missed a critical point in the video. You have to look at this rating system as a "good vs bad" instead of like some three-tier setup now. It's very possible that a "good time, no alcohol required' is actually an "awesometacular" movie on the first viewing and thus something to be recommended for all. That's why "good time, if I'm drunk" is in the middle because it's possible to get just as much enjoyment from some movies if your drunk as you would the ones you'd buy it on bluray.
Here’s how I’ve always saw Jeremy’s rating system before this video 0-Dog shit (0%) 1- won’t remember t minus 10 seconds (20%) 2- good only if you are drunk (40%) 3- good time no alcohol (60% fresh) 4- Buy It on Blu-ray (80%) 5- Awesometacular (100%)
Your rating system sure is awesometacular. It's very creative and I also love how these ratings don't give specific detail on how good or bad a movie is. Thank you for making this video keep being awesome.
Guess it really comes down to how much time goes into contemplating the rating system. Buy it Blue-Ray just means this was a great movie that you're going to want to rewatch several times. Awesometacular - the film is going to knock your socks off! Good time no alcohol required - pretty good one off, potential guilty pleasure flick. If you're drunk - this film was made for stoners, or is just terrible. Won't remember in t-minus - Forgettable experience that fails to make an impact. Dog shit - Transformers Dark of the Moon.
You kind of missed the point of the video though. As he described it, there are movies that would qualify as "knock your socks off" but only would do so for one viewing and thus would be a "good time, no alcohol required". That's not to say you should skip the movie, only that for HIM, it's not worth repeat viewings.
He showed Dogshit and Awesometacular are on opposite ends of the spectrum while everything is is kind of in the middle all having different values based on the experience...
James Marino god dammit, you HAD to dig at the one transformers movie that I actually like. Also, I agree with you on the rating system thing. I always thought it was kind've obvious
Omg why is it allways Timmy and Johny in your examples jeremy. Why not include a wider range of foreign non american names like Razanaraghda, Odhiyaulhaq or even something simple like Weerasethakul . UNSUBSCRIBED!
I can tell you were frustrated at the lack of understanding of your rating system and rightfully so in my opinion. And rather than insult people that don't get it (like tons of youtubers would do) you explained it in a funny but respectful manner and respected everyone's intelligence. Well done sir! 👏
You made your own 'film-review' niche, which makes your channel best of it's kind. Very cool review system. Shows your own perspective without being another imdb score. A huge thumb up! I'm clicking below to see more
this was informative actually! i've been subscribed for YEARS and always thought the order was kinda definitive, probably because of all other rating systems, but this is interesting and will change how i view your rating in future videos! good one jeremy jaaahns
This video was helpful, but we’re not gonna remember it in T-minus 1 day.
*Yep. Already forgot!*
Then you’ll rewatch it on a binging session. And then you’ll still not remember it in T-minus 1 day
*Yep. Already forgot again*
This system is definitely worth buying on Blu Ray
Robert Sagers I think it's Awesometacular!
Robert Sagers so it's good but not good enough

From what I originally assumed:
Dogshit- self explanatory

Better if drunk: really dumb but could be so bad it's good
Good time no alcohol required: overall decent film

But if you already know that the series is awesome why do you need the review? Wouldn't it be better to reviews brand new series, like "The End Of The Fucking World" or "Dark", instead of one that's been going for 4 years?
Mark Newman
Yeah, that's what i thought. Review them like a movie each
1upBrasil Because it's awesome dude
Yeah! The End Of The F***ing World
I remember when you first made the rating system I can’t believe it’s been so long.
Damian I know but the point of my statement was that the rating system never really confused me as I had my own interpretations of the ratings.
Here’s how I’ve always saw Jeremy’s rating system before this video
0-Dog shit (0%)
1- won’t remember t minus 10 seconds (20%)
2- good only if you are drunk (40%)
3- good time no alcohol (60% fresh)
4- Buy It on Blu-ray (80%)
5- Awesometacular (100%)
Your rating system sure is awesometacular. It's very creative and I also love how these ratings don't give specific detail on how good or bad a movie is.
Thank you for making this video keep being awesome.
Who as trouble? It’s simple the best movies are the same as Jeremy’s hair and beard, both AWESOMETACULAR.
You gave your review of your review scores a t-minus and Spider man a Awesometacular.. UNSUBBEDD
🤔
Your statement does not make any sense.
Dumb
I agree

_Joke_
*Your head*
I've always loved your rating system, it's the whole reason why you're the only reviewer I come to. And the commentary. The commentary is A++.
Kind of makes me sad that this video was even necessary...
Sorry, I actually meant to reference Revenge of the Fallen.
I feel like your rating system is pretty self explanatory.
Nothing better than seeing a notification that Jeremy Jahns has uploaded a new video. Seriously man keep up the good work.
I will buy this video on Bluray.
Notification Squad is... Awesometacular.
I love your impressions & reviews. They're so much fun to watch.
I would say this video is awsometacular
The guy that makes awesome comments in MrMrMangohead videos
Omg why is it allways Timmy and Johny in your examples jeremy.
Why not include a wider range of foreign non american names like Razanaraghda, Odhiyaulhaq or even something simple like Weerasethakul .
UNSUBSCRIBED!
The most underated comment ever
megaslayercho wow, whoa.... he needs to look into the names standardized testing use
A friend recommended me your videos in 2012. The rating system made sense the first time I seen it, I just wish more reviewers used something similar.
Not having a definitive numerical rating system makes viewers watch your entire video and come out with a better understanding of the movie
Dogshit - 0/5
T-minus - 1/5
Better if drunk - 2/5
No alcohol required - 3/5
Worth buying - 4/5
Awesometacular - 5/5
No
I can tell you were frustrated at the lack of understanding of your rating system and rightfully so in my opinion. And rather than insult people that don't get it (like tons of youtubers would do) you explained it in a funny but respectful manner and respected everyone's intelligence. Well done sir! 👏
Bring back 'Tour De Force'!
The problem is "its a movie i was bored about and everyone else loved it" like dunkirk, drive etc...but hey if we are subscribed we respect his opinion
I have been asking myself why he hasn’t made an explanation for his “ratings” ever since 2011. A weight has been lifted. Thank you Jeremy.
You made your own 'film-review' niche, which makes your channel best of it's kind. Very cool review system. Shows your own perspective without being another imdb score. A huge thumb up! I'm clicking below to see more
Your brain is wonderful Jeremy.
"This is my brain. Welcome!"
Let me out of this cage of insanity! Lol
this was informative actually! i've been subscribed for YEARS and always thought the order was kinda definitive, probably because of all other rating systems, but this is interesting and will change how i view your rating in future videos! good one jeremy jaaahns
This movie should've been out like 7-8 years ago
