My daughter goes to a Christian school in NZ where the kids can’t wear jewellery including a cross but can wear any Māori necklace because it’s cultural which I find a double standard.
If she can't wear a cross then it isn't a Christian school.

I wear my hamsa every day. Doesn't matter if it's around a Christian.... Christians aren't told to take off their cross, Muslims aren't told to take off their head covers. FTGJ nope. If someone comes to place where religion AAAAA prevails, not his religion BBBBB - he should not offend or leave. Not those who are AAAAA. If it would be general public school - yes it could be a question "is it allowed to wear religious symbols or clothings here, for anybody". As its Christian school - no way. Cross can be even made obligatory, if it is hardcore school, but its a separate tale.
Do not wear burqa in Christian place, do not wear cross in Muslim place, do not wear hat in Ortodox church, do not walk bareheaded in Synagogue and so on. The right to NOT allow aliens (anybody who is not liked here, who is annoying, who is "not ours") to own place is one of basic human rights.
