I was 15 and travelled down with my brother and a few mates from Glasgow for the gig. I was about 8-10 rows from the front (middle right). I don't remember much about the sound because everyone was going mental around about me. Best gig of my life! As I'm quite short, I was stood on some sort of smoke machine (didn't know it at the time) for most of the gig to get a better view, which blew all sorts of shit up the legs of my flares. When I came out, I looked like Yosemite Sam after his gun had blown up in his face :) What a day!

We got to spike island the day before the gig and watched the soundcheck. Not many people there then. Played fools gold and resurrection. Got chatting and got my jeans signed. And went for a stroll by the river.

Oh man, what a rush of memories! Me and my buddy Jethro were right up front at the start. It was insane! We actually had to get pulled out by the security guys up front by like the third song as we were getting crushed and couldn't breathe. There was a steady stream of people getting pulled out with no real other way to move back from the front.
We walked far, far out away from the main crowd along the side and up onto a hillside at dusk, right when they started playing "Standing Here" which was and is probably my favorite song by them. That moment on that hill, looking out onto the crowd with "Standing Here" playing, feeling like we had escaped death, was a highlight of my youth.

The day itself was chaotic and it was hard to know what was going on most of the time, which just seemed to build up the level of anticipation for the band so when they came on - BOOM! there was a massive collective release of energy and euphoria. And things were never the same again. Not a phone or camera in sight, everyone in the moment. As a committed Roses fan in my 50th year now, it makes me melancholy about what they could have been. I was with Oasis from small shows to the huges ones - great, great times, but a part of me will always feel that we missed the next Beatles. Ian has gone on to do some profound work... but is guess sometimes the star is too bright. And I still want to know who's got Ian's bongo's when he slid them down at the end...

I think they would've used phones... If they had them! Lmao.
Back in 1990 there weren't any camera phones.
But I agree, it's so much nicer to live in the moment, and not see everyone shoving their phones in the air for their Instagram story, like anyone cares, with the other 20,000 ig stories.

The entire soundcheck the day before was shot, everything was shot from the construction of the stage to the fireworks display at the end of the gig.
Look on the channel EpaxB (I'm assuming he/she is one of the owners of the footage) they have even commented on one of their own uploads that the disclaimer at the beginning of this video is wrong and that there is loads more footage of the whole show out there and that only a handful of people have seen it, apparently someone somewhere doesn't want this fully out there and had only agreed to snippets of the gig to be released.

It begins with a disclaimer that is a fan made video shot by an amateur ... now, is it just me or is this the most energy captured, the best audio mix, and the closest Ian has been in the area code of "In Tune" of any live footage of a Roses show? I've hear Noel comment that the sound was crap (backed by a lot of other folk's opinion who were there) because of the wind but this video provides a the most distinctly "live" sound and I'm just floored. From the opening on, the energy is just unbelievable. I'm wondering why this is regarded more as an "event" rather than a concert because this the Roses I thought I was going to see when they finally made it out the States. THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The sound on the day was absolutely crap, it was drifting about so badly and I don't recall it being particularly windy, know that Evans scrimped on the production and didn't spend enough on the PA. Most of this footage must've been filmed from the scaffolding tower that the main desk was situated in, judging the height and angle of the shot, how an ordinary fan got up there and stayed there with a video camera makes me think it was someone either connected with the band or the road crew who's filmed it. Brings back some memories, funny that all the 'major' Roses gigs I was at weren't that memorable [this, Aly Paly, but not Blackpool] but the smaller ones either just before they made it big [Bradford] or just after [Leeds] were the best gigs I've ever been to, at Leeds Poly they were absolutely mind-blowing!
