Warning about Newfoundland’s. If you get one you will get as attached to it as you would a close family member like a parent or a child. They are the most human like dog you will ever have. And when it passes away you will be absolutely crushed. This breed understands the tone of your voice like a human. Extremely empathic. People will think you’re a very caring and great person because of the temperament of your our Newfoundland. You’ll get more credit than you deserve. And get used to everyone wanting to take a picture of your Newfie. But be warned, you’ll get more attached to it than you ever intended. Those eyes will get you every time. Those sweet eyes.
My uncle had one and I was attached to him. I cried so much when I found out he passed. He had to be tied up if you wanted to go swimming. He would pull you back in. The dog almost died twice. They are extremely tough dogs.
My cousin had one, 200lbs, did not like it as kids when we swam in the river he would come out to get us by the arm and pull us back to the river bank. He was a gentle bear and very protective over all of us. Great great dog
@Tentacious or just very big. My Newfie is 85kg (i don't know lbs) and he is just very tall and much bigger than usual Newfie. Even tho he has less furr. Very fit ✨️
@@anoykoaoi I mean newfoundlands are no longer purebred working dogs anymore more then often they’re the mix bred mastiff type which are really bad to buy and reinforce bad breeding.

My favorite dog I ever had was a newfoundland. His name was Fezzik after the giant in princess bride. We got him for free when I was just 1 year old because he had a natural tear in his abdominal muscles and nobody else wanted him. He was healthy for all 12 years of his life. And thanks to both his gentle giantness and guidance from our other dog at the time, Logan the shepard husky mix, never once bit or even growled at anyone. He was a very, very good boy. And I still miss him immensely.
Fun fact! The dog Nana in Peter Pan is actually a Newfie too! The author J. M. Barrie had a Newfie and wrote about their intelligent and sweet nature in his books, memorializing their gentle nature (particularly with children) as Nana took care of the Darling children.
My friend has 3 newfies. I love them so much. Such be goofy, snugglebums. It can be a bit overwhelming though when you sit down and have 3 couches with legs all try to get into your lap at the same time lol
Also, feel like it's important to point out, but with giant dogs like this, you have to be specially diligent with socialization and biting training, because even a playful bite could cause injury, not because of their temper, but because of size alone. Don't let a dog's percieved temper fool you into thinking they don't need socialization, because all dogs do.
Smartest and sweetest dogs. I've had a lot of sweet dogs, but my newfies were the only ones that are able to find a child in a crowd who's having a bad day and single them out and change their mood.
My sister has two. Im scared of dogs, like panic level. and the first one when he was young and we just met realised it and learnt to be more gentle with me than with others. Now im not scared of them at all (and I even play-annoy them on purpose) but he still remembers that he fx. cant use teeth and bite while playing with me. While normally dogs when they see my fear they are either scared/weirded out too or simply see me as weak prey lol Newfies are the gentlest sweetest giants
They also have webbed paws! They are very slobbery. And also, about being protective, once, when I was about 8, my grandparent's newfoundlands had "protected" me from the mailman, all curled up and blocking me from him.
@@VitaminDealer there's a UA-cam channel, girl with dogs, she has the best shedding tools I've ever seen! No she's not a friend of mine I'm just impressed.
Correction : their usage of energy is not in bursts, but they still need exercice. Typically swimming and or long walks benefits them. Do not skip excercise with them on the basis that they aren't sprinters. They do need an efty amount of it.
Like most large breed dogs, Newfies have a shorter life expectancy, 8-10 years. They are also serial droolers. But they are kinda like oversize Golden Retrievers, they love pretty much everybody and are excellent family additions.
New Finland? They are absolutely lovely dogs. I have met a huge number of dogs throughout my life but even though I've never owned a Newfoundland, I'd still trust them the most of all breeds. All the Newfies I've met have been calm, friendly and caring dogs. They really do love people. I don't want slobber all over my house but I don't mind a bit on my trousers when I'm cuddling another affectionate Newfoundland when I'm out for a walk.
And they cost a fortune to keep with really expensive grooming sessions that can take several hours. Beautiful dog but for anybody considering this breed please think of the cost.
Nah. I've had four of them. They can be easily groomed by their owners. All you need to do is spend a little time brushing them each day. They love it, and it can be an important bonding session for owner and dog. Learn to spend some time with your dog, rather than dumping them off at the groomers.
It is actually commonly Pronounced like that by Newfoundlanders and honestly most of Canada. Even though based on the spelling it should be New-FOUND-land
So there’s nothing worse than seeing people in the south/southeast with cold weather breeds like these, huskies ect. It’s appalling and animal cruelty IMO.
