My favorite dog I ever had was a newfoundland. His name was Fezzik after the giant in princess bride. We got him for free when I was just 1 year old because he had a natural tear in his abdominal muscles and nobody else wanted him. He was healthy for all 12 years of his life. And thanks to both his gentle giantness and guidance from our other dog at the time, Logan the shepard husky mix, never once bit or even growled at anyone. He was a very, very good boy. And I still miss him immensely.
Fun fact! The dog Nana in Peter Pan is actually a Newfie too! The author J. M. Barrie had a Newfie and wrote about their intelligent and sweet nature in his books, memorializing their gentle nature (particularly with children) as Nana took care of the Darling children.
My sister has two. Im scared of dogs, like panic level. and the first one when he was young and we just met realised it and learnt to be more gentle with me than with others. Now im not scared of them at all (and I even play-annoy them on purpose) but he still remembers that he fx. cant use teeth and bite while playing with me.
