Not for sale at any price for me. Alvarez is so important and would be impossible to replace for our budget and no europe. Give Alvarez the captaincy in my opinion
Completely agree. I do think there is way more to his game than people give him credit for. He’s also insanely good at redirecting opposition players. It is insane how they see him and try yo avoid him at any cost unless they’re Man City or in the box
Look what happened to Leicester City when they sold Kante to Chelsea for big bucks - they were never the same force. We must not sell Alvarez. We have already sold Rice, who was the best defensive midfielder in the country and got lucky with the gutsy, intrepid Mexican as a replacement. We may not be so lucky again.
Looking forward to seeing Alvarez at base of our midfield with new plyers around him who are comfortable on the ball, a coach with a possession based ethos, and he surely is most likely to be our captain as things stand
For those who don't understand the "El Machin" meaning: Its a play on the word Macho. The nickname was received when he was small and he would not be scared to confront people older to him, so Machin could have been given to him in a somewhat sarcastic manner. The nickname could be seen as "Little Macho"-ish.
when Alvarez and JWP were bought in they were considered a 2 player Rice replacement and even small upgrade .. without those 2 I'd argue we would not have been able to remain stable after Rice's departure, and that we'd be in all sorts of trouble now. So Rice was sold last year for 105 million and those 2 players are worth at least that combined.. JWP cost 30m, surely Alvarez must be worth 75m to West Ham as of last year .. I'd back him to Paqueta's release price of 85m since I'd say he's contributed as much if not more to WH as Paqueta. If Man U don't want to pay that, which I doubt they do, then they can look elsewhere
I wonder if captaincy might make Alvarez think more before diving into a tackle. Responsibility can change people for the better but would it then change his game? I think it’s worth a try. 🤔
@@audialiastt2601 he might, but having looked at him over several years he has always got cards, I player losing 10% at the top level would take him from being effective to almost passive and not breaking up play like he currently does. Gio, we will never finish in the top four if we continue to sell our best players, Alonso said a few weeks ago that WH should build our team around Alvarez, yet here we are, talking about selling him. I know we have to sell now and then, but certain players should not be for sale.

Colour me convinced Geo. Your logic makes sense to me. But would an offer be sufficient to interest us? I'm not so sure. Deconstructing the better parts of our team just makes the summer window even harder than it already is. Unless the offer is ridiculous, which I doubt.

West Ham aren’t desperate for money so can suggest and hold firm on ridiculous prices for their players as they don’t need to sell.
I don’t think Newcastle will sell Bruno though, I think that’s a key difference. They’d be able to raise SOME funds by offloading the likes of Almiron and Lascelles and perhaps even Wilson, Murphy and Longstaff etc.
Man Utd have to make a bid first otherwise it’s a non-story. But should they do, I can see him wanting to join. He’s played under their manager before and unlike us Man Utd will be playing European football. I wouldn’t be desperate to sell him, but I guess like any player if we are offered an obscene amount of money we have to at least consider it. Personally, from what I saw of him last season he still needs to convince me a little bit more. His performances on the whole weren’t awful, prior to the thumping at Palace and Chelsea. In fact he did have some really good games across the season. But I still feel there’s more to come from him. Maybe we’ll see that next season. I agree I'm not offended by players wanting to play for Champions League Clubs. If they do that it means they have done well for us and we have been successful. We just reinvest ala the Steidten modal and go again. We will sell one high profile player this summer.
