If potter can do the following I will be delighted: 1. Avoid relegation batter. (Crazy how many people think we’re fine, we’re two losses away from looking over our shoulder) 2. integrate at least 2 youth players into the team on a regular basis. Preference would be Scarles and Orford. 3. improve performances of Kudus and Alvarez so we can maximise their sale price in the summer. If we can do that I will be very happy with him!

See definite patterns and a style of play. See development and integration of young players - Scarles, Guillherme, Orford. Getting the likes of Kudus and Pacqueta playing nearer their level of ability. Finish away from the relegation zone. Set us up for a decent summer, where we can move players on (as they've shown form) and lure players in who'll want to play in his way in his team.

Very early days but I like what I’ve seen so far. Gets his points across well in press interviews and I’m sure after Loppy the players will respond positively to the new information given by Potter. I genuinely think we can finish just into the top half of the table and push on next season
100% agree Geo. Like to see one or two additional youngsters given a chance between now and the end of the season and if that means they’re nearer a regular first team start next season that’d be a massive plus in my book.
Total agree Geo. preseason has started. Time to evaluate the squad, look at some youngsters from the academy, get the team learning the system. Show the fans that the team has a tactical direction. I was so happy with what I saw in the first 45 against Villa - a little longer on the training pitch and physio’s table we could be laying good foundations for next season

Excellent Near the top of bottom half... As expected Relegation.... Unthinkable. But there a couple of metrics I would add on top..... Looking like the better team when we win (Something we didn't do with Loppy and rarely did with Moyes) Give us a recognisable identity. I'm confident about things atm but even more injuries and a poor January window could significantly impact these 'targets'.
Geo you speak often about the “eye test”-for me, that’s how I’ll be judging Potter this season: do we *look* like we know what we’re doing? Is there noticeable sense of organization? Purpose? Commitment? If yes, then I’ll be happy and we can push on for next season. COYI.
Making a lot of sense with the 8 month pre-season. I can't help but think we don't have the right profile of players to fully play in Potter's system which might hamper us this year. Will be interesting to see who comes and goes through the transfer window.
I've seen a couple of Potter interviews & like what he said & his British humour, i think he's got confidence in himself & totally gets our club & fans, of which means alot, i also like the way he showed respect to us fans, as respect is a two way street. Realisticly I'd first like to see GP set the foundations & stabilise things to keep us out of any relegation battle & aim for a 14th to 10th place finish, bond the squad & ask them individually what's their favoured position & style and then work out his own set ups & test them out to see where the strengths & weaknesses are, identify the players he knows he has to & wants to keep, i.e. Kudos Paqueta, and get rid of the rusty dodgy ones that either don't want to be there or are below average, i.e. Mavro Ings Alverez Rodders (coufal) Sharpen up the fitness & training on defence corners & set pieces and stop the leaky goals against difference, liase with TS & DS to identify & bring in a young world class GK midfield engine workhorse & injury free hot striker, rotate & bring in the acadamy & loanees, play exciting adaptable attacking footbal.l Paint the picture, sign it and next season challenge the elite teams toe to toe aiming for a top 6 finish. ⚒
Given how bad Lopetegui was, 23 points though not great wasn’t a total disaster. Would be great if we could get a fast start with these two games coming up to take all possibility of relegation out of the equation as soon as possible, to let Potter develop things for next season without the relegation stress.
Hi Geo. For me it's about avoiding relegation and then after that getting our playing style sorted out .Anything else is a bonus and Potter playing an academy player is huge for me.Very pleased about that and for that alone I am excited for the rest of the season.
Man U fan at work was chuckling about us maybe taking Rashford for 6 months and I said whats the point? We need new players that we will have next season and bed the squad in. Now I watch this and you basically say exactly what I was telling him. 👍
I understand why you'd think Europe is out of reach at the minute, but if we string together a few good results and win at villa park it can start looking achievable. We'd probably need about 30-35 points between now and the end of the season, which is a lot, but we did put together that sort of tally at points under Moyes so it could be achievable if Potter settles in quickly. obviously we'd need a fair bit of surgery in the transfer window though.
Agree but I did say if we win 3 or 4 in a row then never know likewise lose 3 or 4 on the bounce and it’s relegation battle time! Small chances of either but I think we will linger. If we had a fully fit squad then perhaps but we don’t.
Within reason, give a good man-manager long enough and support, and I think it will always be a succes. No expectations for this 7 month pre-season except staying up, shaping the squad by August, and it would be nice to finish higher than Moyes' Everton 🙂
This season's a washout. If the gaffer can finish top ten it would be great but I doubt it. Just keep us safe, integrate Guilherme, and work/agree with Steiden on new targets for the following two transfer windows
Before we was left with just Danny Ings as our only Striker, I wanted us to get 50 points, but that gone out of the window. I be happy with 46 points. Good 22nd of the season would be, 1 or 2 more players from the U21s starring games. Luis Guilherme getting to start games when Bowen is back. Most importantly getting Kudus and Alvarez playing like they were last season under David Moyes. Also now Todibo has seen off the last manager, will be be less injured now Graham Potter the new Head Coach? Also getting a new Striker in, either in loan or a bargain price and playing well in Graham Potter'a playing style. Also getting Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in on loan to help Alvarez in Midfield. I agree with Geo, Graham Potter should treat this as a 8 month preseason.
I pray we dont lose Kudus or Paqueta in the summer. Them 2 central behind the striker in Potters system I think is going the be class. At least give me a full season of it.
No doubt Potter has a certain style a certain level, he has to educate the players he has at his disposal, he can do and say what he likes but the players have to implement what he wants, I would be happy to see the style improve with a steady up turn in results and hold judgement on him and his team till perhaps this time next year
Totally agree with you but due to current circumstances and injuries etc I want to see what he does,has he plans a,b,c,d and flexibility to compete with this thin squad…… that interests me and to see how he uses some of our youngsters and can he improve players not just with the ball but positionally and tactically……… on top of that can he also,start to get the fan base on side
Start of the season I wanted us to push for Europe but since Sully has let Loppy spunk half a season and now we have big players injured i would settle for just not being dragged into the relegation dog fight. Top half finish would be a massive over achievement I think from where we are now. Hopefully we will see some youth and good football and then evaluate our expectations for next season.
I’d like to see a points average of 1.5+ for the rest of the season. That’s an improvement and getting closer to 1.75 means building for Europe next season.
It’s hard to know where this would get you in the league, but I think a good but realistic second half of the season could get us to about 48-52 points, that’s probably about 9th-12th. If we win everything we should and have a few upsets, we might just sneak into 8th, but it’s a very long shot. I agree that some young players coming through and a solid finish is success.
Don't know why people were even contemplating European football this season, it was never going to happen, even before Loppy. I would not expect it next season either. We lost our manager (Moyes) and brought in 11 new and a coach completely out of his depth. This mess now needs to be repaired, by a brand new coach (Potter). Please be fair and give him some time to grind out a workable squad and start competing realistically.

I honestly think if Potter starts using more of scarles, little bit of Orford and a couple of the boys that are out on loan this season(Potts mainly) I think he'll find quite a few of our academy players can do a very good job and I think they will do if we got rid of the shit in our squad and give these boys the chance with the rest of the first team
I want players to be together & enjoy playing football with the new style & tactics, we do have injuries therefore the introduction of some of the Academy players to be brought in and playing would be a big improvement. I just see the rest of the season as a pre-season as Potter hasn’t even been able to make his own signings yet and he’ll need time to get his idea across. Not to mention the rot has already set into the team after months of poor defending and the attack that scored 60 league goals last season having the life sucked out of them by JLo. He essentially just need to get 4-5 more league wins to get to the magic 36 points mark usually needed to stay up and then he can hopefully work with the players for the rest of the season so they can learn his tactics, with hopefully 1-2 more youngsters to get some minutes alongside Scarles. I do think Potter is waiting for some of the loannes to return also. Particularly Ward-Prowse, Potts and maybe Aguerd too.
Totally agree with the Scarles being worth a few million if he can nail down LB for the rest of the season and we get to see 1 other youth make some substitute appearances that would be massive ⚒️
I still think a win against Fulham and Palace could change our fortunes (which are usually hiding) for the season. Although unfortunately I think we'll miss out on Europe
I think so mate, quite a few contracts are up and that’s just the starting blocks - it’s feasible we lose Fabianski, Coufal, Cresswell, Soler, Ings and Antonio without selling anyone.
Geo, in relation to GP the doctor, he is gonna have to get his stethoscope out to fix our walking wounded ASAP. I feel we are at a CRISIS MOMENT after the Villa game. I think the board will have to help bail him out by getting cheque book out. Many fans and Talk Sport and MOTD pundits will turn.

I have 2 hopes for this season. 1st is that Potter helps to give us back a footballing identity and we can start to enjoy the football again. Ideally with some youth development. 2nd is that we have a relatively quiet rest of the season in terms of media reports and leaks. We need to be United, not divided and that means the board too. I've had enough of the circus for a little while.
Can't see how it can be a 8 months pre season, where half of the players will be gone. It's just getting some sort of form for the remaining, and full steam ahead thereafter.
We have to start integrating Academy players. It’s the most important thing we have to do. Even if they’re banging average players. Fact is we keep recruiting bang average players and they have no vested interest in the club. Players like Guido will only play so far before they say this isn’t worth it. Obviously there’s no guarantee with Academy players, but at least you’ll get a little bit more out of them commitment and effort wise.
These are objective targets that we don't have to wait the end of season to get excitement from. 1.avoid relegation 2.Reduce goal difference from today's 15 3. Greater than 50% attacking football 4. Stay above and finish higher than Moyesballs 5. Bring in one substative academy lad. 6. Get 1 player other than Bowen scoring more than 1.0 in 120mins Stretch target: 1. Finish above spurs or Man U. 2. Get 2 players other than Bowen scoring more than 1.0 goals in 120 mins. Gold star: 1. Finish above man U and spurs and Everton. 2. Have 2 academy players regularly playing GT 30mins.
Bowen coming back will make big difference. Will definitely get some players in soon .The more I here about Potter the more I think he will be here for at least 5 years.

Not a reflection on potter but the injuries are very concerning, and with the lack of depth, we could easily lose our next couple games. Definitely looking over my shoulder should Potter not get backed in January
I feel sorry for potter he's got a injury crisis it's going to be hard for him to get victories and unless he can get players in before Palace I can see 2 home defeats and then a run of very hard games coming up

He’s already shown he understands what fans want. Communicate clearly and honestly. He needs to establish some identity. Get something out of the majority of the summer signings. Use academy players and make it worth them being in the academy. Win more games. So he hasn’t got to do much. 😂😂😂😂
I'm not writing this season off, even with out injuries I think we can chase down the 8th place I'd rather aim for that and finish 10th having ago, then 13th/14th cause we know we are safe, City have won the league chasing down a bigger points gap
Tbf Lloyd I think it’s a fair assumption everyone wants us to try get to the table, I’ve not seen one person say we should aim to finish 14th. It’s like saying we should wear claret and blue next season, I just assume everyone wants it and it doesn’t need said.

Well the silverware in question was FA cup so nothing for at least another 12 months? Europe forget it so he’s a lame duck manager who really only has keep us up to keep his job? My view is can he get us into Euro contention? Not necessarily actuality get us Euro football but get us there or there abouts then he gets thumbs up! Stagnation whereby we stay where we are is failure? Teams with lesser players are doing better due to the man in charge so I’m hopeful that he gets our below par players namely Pac man and Kudus to improve? Hopeful but won’t hold breath?

On the back of the treatment of Loppy - I can see West Ham giving Antonio a contract for the positive PR if nothing else.

I'm sure I've heard that Antonio has been given a one year extension on his current contract
I seen the rumours but nothing official, am unsure how I want the club to go about it.

What worries me is an Everton finishing above us in the table with The Moyesiah at the helm.
I just see the rest of the season as a pre-season as Potter hasn’t even been able to make his own signings yet and he’ll need time to get his idea across. Not to mention the rot has already set into the team after months of poor defending and the attack that scored 60 league goals last season having the life sucked out of them by JLo. He essentially just need to get 4-5 more league wins to get to the magic 36 points mark usually needed to stay up and then he can hopefully work with the players for the rest of the season so they can learn his tactics, with hopefully 1-2 more youngsters to get some minutes alongside Scarles. I do think Potter is waiting for some of the loannes to return also. Particularly Ward-Prowse, Potts and maybe Aguerd too.

Totally agree with the Scarles being worth a few million if he can nail down LB for the rest of the season and we get to see 1 other youth make some substitute appearances that would be massive ⚒️
I still think a win against Fulham and Palace could change our fortunes (which are usually hiding) for the season. Although unfortunately I think we'll miss out on Europe

I think so mate, quite a few contracts are up and that’s just the starting blocks - it’s feasible we lose Fabianski, Coufal, Cresswell, Soler, Ings and Antonio without selling anyone.
Geo, in relation to GP the doctor, he is gonna have to get his stethoscope out to fix our walking wounded ASAP. I feel we are at a CRISIS MOMENT after the Villa game. I think the board will have to help bail him out by getting cheque book out. Many fans and Talk Sport and MOTD pundits will turn.

I have 2 hopes for this season. 1st is that Potter helps to give us back a footballing identity and we can start to enjoy the football again. Ideally with some youth development.
2nd is that we have a relatively quiet rest of the season in terms of media reports and leaks. We need to be United, not divided and that means the board too. I've had enough of the circus for a little while.
Can't see how it can be a 8 months pre season, where half of the players will be gone. It's just getting some sort of form for the remaining, and full steam ahead thereafter.
Okay, to use that rule, we can’t call pre season pre season as some players will leave, like JWP did after the season started.
Same as lopetegui’s -better attacking style of play and integrate the players including the youth . Europe can wait until next season .
We have to start integrating Academy players. It’s the most important thing we have to do. Even if they’re banging average players. Fact is we keep recruiting bang average players and they have no vested interest in the club. Players like Guido will only play so far before they say this isn’t worth it. Obviously there’s no guarantee with Academy players, but at least you’ll get a little bit more out of them commitment and effort wise.
These are objective targets that we don't have to wait the end of season to get excitement from.
1.avoid relegation
2.Reduce goal difference from today's 15
3. Greater than 50% attacking football
4. Stay above and finish higher than Moyesballs
5. Bring in one substative academy lad.
6. Get 1 player other than Bowen scoring more than 1.0 in 120mins
Stretch target:
1. Finish above spurs or Man U.
2. Get 2 players other than Bowen scoring more than 1.0 goals in 120 mins.
Gold star:
1. Finish above man U and spurs and Everton.
2. Have 2 academy players regularly playing GT 30mins.
Bowen coming back will make big difference. Will definitely get some players in soon .The more I here about Potter the more I think he will be here for at least 5 years.
How fantastic would it be, if Potter is successful and gets us playing attractive football, how fantastic would it be to not have to even think about who our manager is.
Not a reflection on potter but the injuries are very concerning, and with the lack of depth, we could easily lose our next couple games. Definitely looking over my shoulder should Potter not get backed in January
Sully always says they budget for 11th. That's fair where we are now. Two Academy Players on the bench at least. Reduce the age of the squad.
I feel sorry for potter he's got a injury crisis it's going to be hard for him to get victories and unless he can get players in before Palace I can see 2 home defeats and then a run of very hard games coming up

I want a team with some swagger. Wins and losses always matter but you’re not going to get the positive without the attitude.
Comment on his win % of 28.3% at Brighton and 30% at chelsea please. Am hoping he does amazing but am hesitant as I was with loppy given this. He does look better than loppy either way though (not hard to do...)

I think you are right he probably will be afforded time because he is English and don't think I am all for Julian because that's not the case five winds nothing games bad enough but I think genuinely our players are rubbish if you can improve them and get rid of some of them you can regard that as success

He needs to do the following: Bring some sanity. Bring some stability and common sense. Help bring the disparate elements together. That includes fans. He’s already shown he understands what fans want. Communicate clearly and honestly. He needs to establish some identity. Get something out of the majority of the summer signings. Use academy players and make it worth them being in the academy. Win more games. So he hasn’t got to do much. 😂😂😂😂

I'm not writing this season off, even with out injuries I think we can chase down the 8th place I'd rather aim for that and finish 10th having ago, then 13th/14th cause we know we are safe, City have won the league chasing down a bigger points gap
Tbf Lloyd I think it’s a fair assumption everyone wants us to try get to the table, I’ve not seen one person say we should aim to finish 14th.
It’s like saying we should wear claret and blue next season, I just assume everyone wants it and it doesn’t need said.
@HammersChat ahh thought in the video it sounded like Europe is off the cards, with teams getting distracted by other competitions, i think we could go under the radar and close the game, but 1st of all need to start playing well, results will come, I think potter is a good motivator I think they will feel more free

Well the silverware in question was FA cup so nothing for at least another 12 months? Europe forget it so he’s a lame duck manager who really only has keep us up to keep his job? My view is can he get us into Euro contention? Not necessarily actuality get us Euro football but get us there or there abouts then he gets thumbs up! Stagnation whereby we stay where we are is failure? Teams with lesser players are doing better due to the man in charge so I’m hopeful that he gets our below par players namely Pac man and Kudus to improve? Hopeful but won’t hold breath?
If you look at the teams above us we’ve accumulated more points in the last five games than all the teams above us other than Fulham. Be a bit more optimistic Geo 💪👍⚒️
