One of the best, straightforward explanations I've ever heard! Been mixing 20 years and this still gave me food for thought. Great stuff! God bless
Enjoy the pace, thoroughness, and clarity of your methods. One of the best audio tute channels out there. Thanks for doin' it. 👍🏼
appreciate it John!
Always needed this because ive noticed a difference when you order them differently! For the 1000th time, thank you lol you keep giving all these secrets to us!
King Digit sure thing 🙌
Just tried this chain using some different compressors [since I do not own all of the plugins you are using] and its making a real difference. Thanks so much for posting this.
Great to hear!
You give fantastic explanations of both what and why. Many thanks, man.
Sure thing Jake. Glad it was helpful 🤜
I mixed and mastered about 350 songs in last 2 years, and still I can learn a great things from you. Just to be clear, I am not a professional, I do this for a hobby, but man, it is a great pleasure when you confirm my methods or if I learn something new from you.
I wish you had more subs so your tutorials would reach to more people. God bless!
🙏🙌
That post pan on the verb send is a gem 🔥
Really liked the way you explained why this or that order, thanks! I'll definetly use it for my songs ;)
Sean, I purchased your vocal chain templates just because of this mix ! Super dope bro ...I will definitely start doing things like this ...love it !
🙌🙏
Thanks Sean. Your definitely a mentor to me and many others I’m sure! Also your music is really inspirational... I like the story telling aspect. Keep being awesome haha !
Andre Erdna appreciate that Andre
Sean Divine anytime man! Would you ever do a video on your thinking process when it comes to ordering the tracks on an album? Or maybe a video on the ways u like to use automation? Just some ideas if you haven’t talked about it already.
Sean, thanks bro! You’ve taught me a lot over the last year! Oldies but goodies! 🤟 I truly appreciate your teachings!
See you at the top!
Great explanation of the order of plugins. Thank you so very much :)
One of the best on youtube for real. I'm a young engineer from switzerland and even though I'm supposed to arleady know a lot of what you saying, every of your videos reminds me little things that I should think of more. And with the plug-ins I have haha! Because you don't use a lot of fancy and expansive new shits that the others do. You go to the essential. Thank you man, keep it going
glad to hear it's helpful Bertrand :)
love your tutorials man!! one thing i wish you would do though is bypass and un-bypass each plugin while letting us listen to the before and afters of each one, so we can see how each plugin is affecting the sound
Great! You are the best teacher off UA-cam bro
:) 🙏
@@SteveStockmalMusic sorry teacher
Thanks for all the ins and outs on that one Sean! Like some in below already said you the best in givin izi understandable explanation! Greets from The Netherlands
I love "brief type" of videos like this. Great tuts bro. Sometimes You just dont want to watch 30min videos :))
Dude. Yes. Thank you for this. Made total sense, well explained. No weird bullshit, and I genuinely learned something. Thank you!
glad to hear it John! 🙌
Great Explanation! Im deff about to try this now! Cheers
So helpful. Such a clear explanation on this subject. Thank you for this.
Glad it was helpful!
man this shit sound fire af!!!!! Subscribing off this ONE video! And it's the first one I've seen of you.
welcome :)
@@SeanDivine Say bro, really wanna talk to you (email/facetime) about some music stuff if you have time one day.. I've done a couple songs with some celebrity artists, but I want to start doing my own mixing to save money. Just want to pick your brain 1 on 1. Let me know.
that song sounds really good performance, mix, production
Amazing, very much appreciated!!!
great tips dude
Your videos are top notch 👌🏻 amazing explanation thank you!
Great video man, thanks for the content
Everything you make is spot on
Thank you! 🙏
Thanks for the wisdom as always Sean
🙌
Vert instructive and helpful. makes me more impatient to finish my home studio to apply all those precise advices!
Thank u so much for making these tutorials
sure thing!
Hey Sean, I recently discovered your channel and subscribed almost immediately. Your lessons are A1🙏🏾. Question, where would you use a plug in like izotope's nectar in this chain? Or would you just bus it?
nectar is essentially a vocal chain all it's own so it just depends on what you're using in it's effects sections
Thanks a lot Sean... You the best! 👍🙌
sure thing :)
Sean you’re the man! Thanks a lot for all the mixing advice 🙏 learning a lot from you
sure thing man, glad it's helping!
If I’m ever on the Breakfast Club I’m mentioning your name 👍💪🧠
a big fat thanks bro u are the best
sure thing!
Thank you Sean! I have been wondering about this for awhile, another similar question I have is when I should use plugins as stereo? or mono? I always just put all my plugins in stereo till I saw you use mono ones on certain occasions. An overall panning/stereo video (on Logic specifically considering there's the three different types of panning knobs) would be very helpful! ie. when to pan in the mixing process, whether to use stereo pan or balance knob, etc. !! Great work, very helpful!
most of the time I use stereo plugins on an aux track. that way you always have the flexibility of using stereo effects like reverbs, delays, modulation, etc.
Sean I'm a big fan of your videos. I wanna say thank you for this opportunity.
Question, I wanna record vocals through, let's say auto tune, compressor and an EQ. To affect the vocals before they actually record. How u go about that?
Hey Gigants! For AT I would recommend AutoTune Live - ua-cam.com/video/rT0AWFMU-dk/v-deo.html w/ compression and EQ directly after as inserts
Thank you for your knowledge, and share it with us
sure thing!
Hey bro! LOVE this video! What do you have the comp set to on the RVox? Can’t see behind your webcam. Thank you so much!
honestly can't recall :) I think it was quite light though, not much attenuation
Thank you very much Sean, this is great!
This is golden sir!! You are definitely the truth!! 🔥
🙏🙌
Makes perfect sense to ME! Thanks Sean
🙌
My laptop gone explode if I run all them plugins 😂😂😂 very informative tho!!!
Thanks Man!!! You're the best
I've been waiting for this video! It was me who originally requested it am I right? Haha!
:)
thanks bro keep up the good work god bless
another great content bro.
🙏
MUCH HELP,THANK YOU MAN..
Great videos! Thank you
🙌
amazing work! thank you
That De-esser being last in the chain was new to me, nice one again, thx!
If I can make a wish, could you possibly in the future go through how to mix multiple mid heavy synths? (Pads, plucks, moog emulations on top of each others) I'm struggling with a lot of mid heavy synths atm and it's pretty difficult to get them all shine like I wanted to...
will see what I can do :)
Very well explained
Thanks for the great overview of your vocal chain Sean. Quick question: Where would you place Auto-Tune in this signal flow?
First, as an insert (not an aux with more than one track)
perfect, thanks@@SeanDivine
We still waiting on a Studio One mix template. Look out for us one time.
Amazing insight here. What would be the stock plugin equivalents to this?
Thanks for the great video. Quick question - are you recording your screencast voice into logic? Or is that USB mic whose signal is going directly to your screen casting software?
it's not a usb mic, it's running through my RME UFX and I do the routing with TotalMix
Thank you for your video! Quick (maybe silly) question: why is your main channel a bus vs input 1-2?
thank you
greetings from france bro, thx a lot
sure thing 🙌
Great video!
What if you don't have sound toys radiator? What do you use then?
there are tons of alternatives out there - phatfx for logic pro, mcdsp analog channel, waves omni
@@SeanDivine how exactly do go about using those plugins? The phatfx or waves omni?
Thank you. You da man
BRILLIANT THANK YOU SO MUCH
Glad it helped
Watch your videos routinely bruh just sayin wasgud lol. Hope you livin good!
Milo THECITY ayyy 🙌🙏
Everything is great here I just always wish that people would explain why they chose something for that sound. Like why did you want a vintage sound for that compressor for that vocal? What is the decision process there it always seems so random and people just say its "the sound they want" or "it sounded right." I can't even hear a difference let alone understand the reason behind the vintage decision. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
this video is focusing on ordering plugins. have a look around the channel - tons of WHY in the mixing tutorials :)
Hi Sean. Thanks for your great video. I've seen several different videos on this subject and they all seem to vary ! Personal preference I guess.
Question - If I use different brands of Plug - ins I guess the order would still be the same. I use a Vocal Rider so where would you suggest I put this in the chain please Sean ?
Thanks again for sharing this info - much appreciated . Best Regards . . . Eddie. ( a UK Musician )
No rules, this is just what works best in my experience! And yes, it will be similar across different brands of plugins. Here's a recent tutorial with Vocal Rider :) ua-cam.com/video/-Y4_aLOJH_Q/v-deo.html
good song
is this the correct order mate?
Pitcher > EQ> Compressor >Reverb
or any guidance on how would you arrange these four plugins?
That works! I tend to do a deductive EQ (removing problematic frequencies) prior to compression, then follow with any additive EQ. That comes down to preference though.
Gotcha, So i can use the pitcher>deductive EQ during vocal recording and then later during mixing(once vocals are recorded then i should use additive EQ>compressor>delay/reverb? Is that correct or will you recommend and changes to it?
Sean divine is the goat
GREAT VID...
Just was wondering if the mic chain would be good on country vocals ? Thank you for sharing your awesome video
absolutely! Vocal chains are interchangeable between genres, aside from a few small stylistic tweaks. The approach is fundamentally the same :)
song is fire
What if you mix using a lead vox bus? What plug-ins would you recommend putting directly on the tracks and what would you recommend putting on the vox bus?
in most cases, the only inserts I use directly on the track would be pitch correction, preamp emulation or a utility (gain)
@@SeanDivine thanks
Thanks for this video. Question: Can you achieve top notch radio quality results without this many plugins? Say I just used one compressor, an eq, and maybe some reverb. Is it all a matter of taste?
definitely! this is just a preference but it's all how you use it :)
Awesome 😎 Thanks!
Very welcome Keona, glad it helped 🙌
Great video. So I guess you really hear a difference with multiple compressors vs 1 pushed a little harder?
yes, especially if you're looking for different colors and flavors with your compression. Overall I think it sounds less harsh and "digital"
The track reminds me of Kehlani. Very well explained
🤜
So you prefer full in the box vocal chains over analog these days?
I like both for different reasons. Plugin chains have become a lot more practical and convenient. Sound wise they've come a long way. Still like to work with analog for certain sounds though!
Sean Divine Nice! What analog preamp and compressors do you have at the moment?
THIS MIX IS GREAT!! DO YOU HAVE A TUTORIAL ON THE ENTIRE MIX?
thanks Shawn. I don't but here's another with the same artist Danielle! ua-cam.com/video/VbVUm1QHBSk/v-deo.html
What are the rules on busses, how does one group them, is it all verse and dubs on one bus and hooks on another? Or how to we properly bus, so we're not using more processing power on our computer and to make it sound right. I kinda wing it and sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't lol. God Bless you bro

@@SeanDivine Thank you so much my brother 💪💯
i find Eq then comp's work best for me too. good info
Great info!
How would you recommend the VST chain look on guitar/bass and also on the master out fader? I’ve also have Sonarworks Reference 4 running on the master fader.
Thanks!
Nice channel man. I have Ableton live 10 Suite. What Plugins are compatible with that software?
Gonna put this to work tomorrow. IDR where or why I heard it but I was throwing a De-esser on 1st... whoops lol
Deus abençoe meu amigo pelas explicações
can u make an in depth video on how the LUFS thing work and also i dont know how to use multi compress like what do i take away when do i stop editing idk its so harddd
ua-cam.com/video/myTcnK1lRUA/v-deo.html
So do you recommend doing deductive EQ before the compressors and additive EQ after?
absolutely :)
Dope
Hello Sean i will love if you can make a tutorial of a full video from recording down to mixing and mastering and i will like to see you insert your plugin on a group fx channel and not direct on the vocal chain it self and please show us your volume when you recording the vocal.
Can you do an in depth video on how to stack compression! Every time I try I’m always squashing
ua-cam.com/video/VbVUm1QHBSk/v-deo.html
Great and Detailed Explanation.
#SPECIAL_REQUEST
Please do your plugins chain for snares, kicks and bass.
It'll be highly appreciated
90s R&B feel
Hey is there a reason your verse aux is in stereo instead of mono?
Where should autotune go to get the best mix in the vocal chain? Thanks in advance Sean!
first and on the actual channel itself, not an aux!
Hello I’m a beginner on mixing! I was wondering if you put all these plugins on one track or you use sends ?
I typically use sends for reverb, delay, stereo width
Please do a video on how to process HARMONIES that support the lead vocal, i am never sure how much reverb I should apply and how to set up the side-chain reverb... ( through a bus ofc. ) and/or if I should use a doubler to spread them out, or pan multiple tracks left and right, or sample delay..........since I'm goin in to detail; video on how to setting up FLANGERS / PHASERS / DISTORTION. please ???? if you respond to this I will subscribe and share this video ahhahhhaha
I have many videos on the channel covering this. Here's a couple: ua-cam.com/video/qpRX-YY-6BM/v-deo.html, ua-cam.com/video/vSz9CtJ6S6A/v-deo.html
MUCHAS GRACIAS COMPADRE
de nada!
What up Sean. I like to use track stacks (sub-groups) in logic for vocals. Is it better to eq and compress each vocal (lead, double, background, ad libs) or could I get away with processing everything at once on the vocal bus ?
hey Erick, you could get away with it but I wouldn't suggest it - you'll want to have separation of your lead with your bgv / adlibs, etc. and processing everything the same way would prevent this
Got it. Thanks.
I used fabfilter pro c2, virtual mix Rack, fabfilter q3, Rx-desser.... Is this good enough...
of course! it's all how you use it :)
what's your VMR chain like?
Great! 👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻
