When he came to Melbourne, Australia on his TPAB tour everyone started yelling “pimp pimp hooray” and he asked if we wanted untitled 07 and performed that. It was sick. He’s an amazing performer.
Untitled 05 is one of my favorite Kendrick verses of all time. The picture he paints is soo vivid and then Punch and Rock came in with some incredibly wise words too
I love those songs too. Could you send me a list of other songs you like. I think we have similar tastes so I would appreciate if you gave me any recs. Thanks.
My freshman year of college, Kendrick was headlining at the March Madness music festival hosted by Coca Cola in Houston in 2016. It was a free show, and it was after he dropped untitled unmastered. My friends and I drove to Houston in the afternoon and waited 3 hours for him without having anything to drink or eat after making our way to the front. People are sitting around in the pit, then all of a sudden… Everyone hear’s the giant ass bass and wubs. People start getting up so fast and start pushing further to the front, then the band makes its way to the stage, then Kendrick starts screaming “love won’t get you high as this, drugs won’t get you high as this.” Everyone’s jumping, shouting, and moving/jumping so hard that the entire floor felt as if it was shifting back and forth in the crowd. It was such killer opener, and it was Kendrick’s first time ever performing with a live band. Untitled will forever be my favorite project of his.
I wouldn't say it's underrated, it's rated as much as it needs to be, really, being a collection of tracks and all. If you mean people rate it lower than it deserves...I...haven't seen that, at all.
Untitled 05 is legitimately a top 10 Kendrick song for me. criminally underrated. Kind of has a 90210 vibe with the long intro and then just BARS in the second half. So good
Untitled 3, he originally performed on the old Colbert Report, WITH Anna Wise and Bilal and Thundercat and I feel in love with this song THAT night. I was so pleased he put a studio version on this album. yall are great. keep it up!
Same here. The live version hits different. Is crazy that kendrick perform a lot of this songs live before released this "album", and all of them sounds fantastic
I know you all don’t do video reactions but since your dad said he would love to see it performed live, you should definitely show him Kendrick performing Untitled 8 live on Jimmy Fallon. It’s incredible.
Untitled 5 genuinely gets me emotional, especially that hook from Anna Wise - beautiful writing. Also, there is a FANTASTIC untitled 03 performance he had on Stephen Colbert, with different lyrics/delivery - highly recommend looking that up
31:49 he actually performed a mashup of untitled 02 and 08 on jimmy fallon while promoting to pimp a butterfly, and after people saw it live so many of them begged him to release the songs, but it wasn't until lebron james tweeted at him asking him to drop the unreleased songs that kendrick finally did release untitled unmastered. he also performed untitled 03 on the stephen colbert show
Been to 5 Kendrick Lamar shows and I can confirm that him opening with Levitate at Austin City Limits 2016 was the single greatest start to one of his shows. That shit was insane.
the “studio banter” is actually relevant if you pay attention. its all about language and the lens of perception. when we are first introduced to the “head is the answer” hook earlier in the album, its taken seriously and understood as knowledge. during the studio section, you can see kendrick having to display it as a sexual innuendo or a joke in order for the crowd to vibe with it. this is a perfect example of his transition from TPAB to Damn, switching the sound to get the general audiences attention to push his messaging, whether they interpret it correctly or not.
Section 80. And Overly Dedicated by Kendrick are both beautiful projects with unique sounds and some classics tracks. Being a new Kendrick fan your dad would love seeing the great early work and see his early genius. Loving the reactions guys !! Keep it up 🔥
I’m telling you, you gotta do one of Paaks albums. I think they are all down Kevin’s alley. Especially Malibu and Ventura. Paak is one of my favorite artists as he brings so much to the table. You gotta do it
Kendricks 2nd verse on the second beat of Untitled 7 is one of the hardest verses to me, alot of ppl dont talk about it, but when kendrick in that bag kinda like the second half of the heart part 4, he untouchable.
Great reaction guys, and I'm so excited for Kevin to search this up further because Kendrick actually performed Untitled 03 on Stephen Colbert's show, and then Untitled 08 on Jimmy Fallon where he mixed in verses from Untitled 02 in it and they are both performances that are worthy of the Shivery Whivers
bro the funk and grove on untitled 8 just flows through you so naturally and comfortabley, its like standing in the wind in a big open field on a warm day.
For Untitled 6, Kendrick pretty much added a verse to a track called "Questions" from the Midnight Hour, an album by Ali Shaheed Muhammad (ATCQ's producer) and Adrian Younge. Definitely one of my favorite Kendrick tracks. You guys are killing it. Here are some recommendations for the hell of it: Los Stellarians - Cholo Soul. Tom Misch & Yussef Dayes - What Kinda Music. Oddisee - The Odd Tape.
Definitely my favorite album by kendrick, happy you guys finally got to this one, ive been listening to these songs on repeat for years, its nice to see someone taking it in for the time. I ended up going to the Vancouver Big Steppers show but unfortunately he didnt play anything from Untitled Unmastered, the show was still incredible but it wouldve been cool to see him play something from this live.
Untitled 5 is easily my favorite Kendrick song. Watching your dad listen to it for the first time made me so happy. Definitely about to play it on repeat for the next month.
Kendrick is a jokester. Knowing he’s a Chappelle fan even exudes in some of his work, to me especially in Mr. Morale. With this album I also had that feeling of “wow, these are throwaways?”. I even consider it a parody album “He’s mocking the trap/mumble rappers on the second track with the cadence of his flow, and does it effortlessly.” The story behind track 7 where Swizz Beats and Alicia Keys son Egypt produced the second verse when he was 5 yrs old, crazy!! To have a CeeLo feature and it not make the main album?!?! Kendrick also being King Kendrick touches on government, race, self reflection, he can always get personal and deep into his feelings and what he’s going through. Amazing album, I have the vinyl with his scribbled signature on it!
untitled 02 is my personal favorite. I really like Kendrick's nonchalant and laidback delivery in the second half of the song, similar to what he did on Thundercat's Walk on By as a feature. You guys should do Thundercat and Beach House (the album cover reminded me of Depression Cherry's cover lmao) next!
