Crazy how Kendrick “throw away songs” are better than some artists best songs 💀💀
most artists
crazy how it's got its own fleshed out concept itself still
crazy i see this type of comment about uu every month
@@mpamfi You'll probably see more of them, especially in 2026, once we reach 10 years since it came out (assuming we're all still here).
It really is.
These were cut from TPAB, but Kendrick performed a few of these on late night shows. Allegedly LeBron pleaded on social media for him to release them to stream and Kendrick obliged
Thank god for Lebron
I remember that video of lebron vibing to levitate lol
W lebron
Untitled 5 is actually insane. Blows my mind he considered it a throwaway.
Literally top 10 kendrick
@@lepaleissen I totally agree, maybe top 5 for me
\
Untitled 5 is personally my favorite Kendrick song. I just love everything about it. The baseline by Thundercat is insane and the short bridge by Anna Wise and SZA gives me chills every time I hear it. The song as a whole feels like the perfect mix of TPAB and GKMC.
same here its beautiful
SAME
No way, same! Or at least it’s very close to how much a dollar cost, I flip back and forth
SAME!!!!
@@zSPC same!
Untitled unmastered is such a great addition to his catalogue to me. Because he usually has these big, bold and meticulously crafted albums that are so purposeful with everything they do. And of course this one is well crafted too, but its a much more raw and abstract version of that which leads to some super creative and interesting moments. Love your untitled 1 breakdown and untitled 5 is probably my favourite Kendrick song ever
hell yeah untitled 05 underrated asf
Untitled 5 is also my favourite Kendrick song! I've never heard anyone else say that.
Untitled 5 is one of the best songs to grace earth.
The first verse on untitled 5 is wild
@@jacobberryman804 its my fav too I’ve been looking for this comment
2:00 that means it is correct, these songs are from 2014 and TPAB came out in 2015, hence they were worked on for TPAB but not used
Ah yes, makes sense
untitled unmastered is unironically better than 99% of rappers best albums
Wayne’s mixtapes washes
@@malik2363 yeah he said 99, Wayne def in that 1%
@@rohantalwar love this comment lol
Definitely Kendricks most underrated project. I’m sure it’s gonna grow on you too sonically too. I think some of these songs could have been on TPAB easily that’s the standard they achieve.
Took awhile but this “album” is so fucking good
I'm settling into this one pretty easily. DAMN is taking a bit longer to get into, but that's growing on me.
I would say Kendricks most underrated is Overly Dedicated from 2010
@@bobthepoppop hey Bob! You should check out Ab Soul as well, DWTW was an interesting album.
Cheers.
@@N00B283 OD sounds a bit underdeveloped compared to everything else. The Heart pt 2 is amazing but that's not technically on it lol
Track 6! Ali Shaheed Muhammad is the third member and DJ of A Tribe Called Quest!! Still hoping you’ll get to them soon and that you’ll do Midnight Marauders in addition to The Low End Theory because it’s equally amazing and important to hip-hop.
Low End Theory is very high on my list. Hoping to get to that album very soon. Kendrick's new drop kinda disrupted the plan a bit, but it just means things got bumped back a bit.
This just goes to show how in the zone Kendrick was when he was making to pimp a butterfly. Even the songs cut from that album are at the very least interesting and thought provoking.
It makes me wonder if he initially had the plan of making a double-disc album but maybe it just didn't flesh out? Seems like there was gonna be more material around the "luci" portion of the album.
When you get a sec look at the live performance of untitled 3. He performed it on the daily show with Steve Colbert. It was AMAZING.
I go back to rewatch that performance every few months. Amazing indeed!
The Grammy performance was great too
Your comments at the end are exactly how you should prepare going into the new album. There have been artists who have surfaced, peaked, and passed away (XXXTentacion, JuiceWrld, etc.) in the gap since Kendrick last dropped. It’s a wild amount of time that you have to acknowledge before coming into this next project. You’ve captured something I’m afraid a lot of hardcore Kendrick fans haven’t: don’t expect a cookie cutter album from Kendrick. This will probably be his most experimental piece of work yet…
And that’s crazy when you think about what Kendrick has already given us with GKMC TPAB & DAMN. 🤯
This and Damn are my favorite Kendrick projects from a sound perspective, I love the off-kilter vibes on this one
Agreed
Untitled 2 and 8 were performed on The Tonight Show and were preferably better than the studio version to a lot of people. It’s on UA-cam if you want to check it out.
5 was also preformed at the Grammys
Bro I love your dedication to dissect and understand a different genre, especially a Kendrick album...big props! 🔥💯
Love the work keep it up!
yeah i definitely enjoy the in depth long rants and comparisons. you should do them whenever you feel its important.
OUT OF NOWHERE !!!
Hey Bob, as you are in the prep zone for the new Kendrick project there's a podcast mini-series detailing the album of TPAB. 'The Big Hit Show' Season 2 is all about TPAB with a few exclusive kendrick interviews and interviews with other collaborators on the project. Deffientely a great listen imo!
and yes the longer thoughts are great! keep going!
Yes thank you for reminding him! I mentioned it when he streamed last week but not sure if he saw it, such an amazing podcast series!
Thank you for doing this for the community, it’s great seeing you get more and more into hip hop and it’s culture!
Also, I highly recommend The Water(S) by Mick Jenkins, it’s a very cohesive and conceptual mixtape with great lyrics and rapping.
And please do me the favor and keep doing what you do, this is pretty much exactly what I need.
after all the dust settles with the new album I'd love to see a ranking of your favorite kendrick albums. Would be interesting to see!
Yeah, this is a good idea
This is great for the Kdot fans. Bought it on vinyl, one of my favorite pieces from him. Just Kendrick’s creativity and energy.
God I love Kendrick Lamar. You should definitely watch his interview with Rick Ruben. Such an interesting conversation and a great insight into both their minds
You have great insights on Kendrick, even as a new listener to the genre! I enjoyed the Untitled 2 rant about how Kendrick and Kanye handle their vices, and how beating yourself up cant help. But I also feel like Kendrick holds himself to a higher standard than anyone else. He knows he is so skilled and feels he was put here to spread God's word that I think he feels shame for falling into the same vices that affect "lesser" men, but at the same time knows he is just a Man. It sounds like a terrible mental struggle, and cant wait for May 13th to get another peek inside his head!
I appreciate your thorough breakdown
thing about this album is that he lays many concepts that couldn’t be in the same album as to pimp a butterfly or Damn, maybe cause it was too overwhelming, as in untitled 4 or 7, and studio snippets. very cool listen.
So glad you reacted to this. I actually prefer this album to Damn by quite a bit. The rawness is great and untitled 05 is my favorite song of his ever. I interpret untitled 05 as a dream that he had. Every action would make sense in a dream. "I live in a different dimension" and "im sleepwalking" and of course Kendrick almost killing someone from his past in a dream would have him agiated. It also ties into Sing About of Dying Thirst in my opinion. Cuz there he goes "I dont know why im infatued with death, maybe its cuz im a dreamer and sleep is the cousin of death." Thus showing he relates death to sleep and that he is a dreamer.
Yeah I do prefer this to damn... Damn has some of Kendricks best and some of his worst (not a big fan of YAH, XXX, ELEMENT personally) but this one every track is good and I love the studio chatter and I love the more upbeat TPAB style stuff
@@BanakaiGamesxxx is amazing whattt😭 the dynamics and chorus are great
thank you for doing this idk if u saw my tweet or not but i replied to u like a day ago saying u should do this but THANK UUUU
Bob, watch untitled 03 live, it has the intro and outro that were cut from the studio version, also a much more energetic performance from Kendrick.
Untitled 1 is a VERY interesting song, I don’t really know what kind of christianity kendrick relates to, but when you enter in this world kendrick describes, the apocalypse, it seems reasonable that he feels like waiting for salvation when he feels he has done so much in the name of god, but when the time comes, he also says the many things he has done and abandoned to stay in the path, but in the and nothing matters, as the last verses say. We have to embrace the things that makes us happy and does good to us, cause that’s what will be his salvation, not his “resume”. But that’s just what I think.
“i fell to my knees, pulled out my resume that dated back to june 17th, 1987, my paperwork was like a receipt”
i took the “resume” portion more literal.. like an application, and in this case an application to heaven. kendrick was born june 17th 1987, and im guessing he included that to show thats when his resume started. i took the “paperwork was like a receipt” portion as a list, and in that case, a list of all his “past endeavors” (as he later stated), hoping those achievements would get him into heaven.
i could definitely be wrong, but thats just my view.. i love your perspective on the verse though
I was gonna send it to you on twitter just incase you weren't gonna do this album but I really recommend watching his performance of untitled 08 (which is put together with untitled 02)
Ali Shaheed Muhammad is a bassist, he was part of the legendary A Tribe Called Quest. Adrian Younge is a talented producer and multi-instrumentalist. They have a jazz group called « The Midnight Hour » and they released several albums (wich is a serie named « Jazz Is Dead ») with jazz Legends such as Roy Ayers, Brian Jackson, Azymuth, Donato etc
Albums drop on thursday nights so you’ll be good to watch it on friday if you choose to. I think thatd be a good idea because it might be pretty hard to wait a whole week
Yeah, and it'll be the first time I can really participate in an album drop in real time where it makes since (having heard the prior albums)
49:45 made me smile SO HARD.
😊
it would be awesome if you made a timeline of all the albums your reacted to so far, to see how the influences expand from one project to the other
I’ve actually never listened to this project in full. So this will be a fun experience.
This guy gives us a literary analysis what else can you ask for man. QUALITY
Bob I know you're processing these albums still, but id LOVE to see a video where you talk about your top 10 favorite Kendrick songs or 10 favorite verses etc..
Albums almost always drop at 9pm PST on streaming services the night before the release date (since music releases at midnight EST), so that means that the new Kendrick album will drop May 12th at 9pm for us California people. This album’s dropping on my birthday so I’m doing ALL the calculations I can hahaha
Also! The Downward Spiral has become one of my favorite albums of all time, despite me not listening to NIN’s other material. What album do you recommend next from them? I appreciate that you talk about Trent so much on the channel and would love to hear your opinion!
I'd roll into The Fragile next. It's a double-disc and that album is what got me hooked into NIN. Lots of range on that album. Really fuckin' cool listen.
@@bobthepoppop the fragile is a kickass album
First off,
I love hearing you talk about the initial interpretations, and your reactions give me chicken skin especially listening to Kendrick for the first time. Kendrick became my best friend ten years ago when I was in school and didn’t relate to anyone. Anyway, I think between him and ye, being both Gemini like myself, ye took the approach of having this arrogant, sophisticated identity, which brought him success. Kendrick on the other hand, he has a more introverted stand point, being able to connect with his listeners, but his cadence and way of manipulating words is unmatched. Therefore he can touch all bases with such a solid foundation that resonates. Ye is incredible, a beast rather, Kendrick is the beauty, making it better than how it was left.
I was surprised Bob, this is epic
Great video man
Right on man i enjoyed this one especially because i was stuck digesting this one myself for a couple weeks and comjng up with similar conclusions as yours makes me think ok iaybe im not so craZy about “just music” lol
Some of the lyrics that you don't hear were done inboive performances. He almost completely changes the sound and arrangement of some of these songs in his live performances it's so interesting to hear
These songs just blast out a musical experience to you
untitled 08 is my fav kendrick song oat. glad you liked it!
I think it would be ok to put your video out same day as the release, if somebody doesnt wanna get spoiled by the reaction they would just wait to watch the video. But I think most people who are that dedicated are gonna be listening to the album at thursday at midnight. Great reaction btw, this album is (understandably) super underrated. I really think if these songs just had titles they would be more in the conversation of kendricks best songs.
I think I’ll die happy the day u review drunk (orrrrr or or apocalypse, his sophomore album which is also incredibly filled with bass and beautiful high pitched vocals)
I love these videos because I feel like I al rediscovering hip hop which is amazing
Honestly for his scaped songs he sounding hella professional.
Yessssss! Thanks Bob!
Thanks bob love you
You should watch a performance he did for the tonight show where he did a sweet mash up of untitled 2 and 8 with a little bit of freestyle towards the end. Probably one of the best tv performances I’ve seen in a while
bruh this dude too smart, i try to sit down with kendrick albums and disect tehm but i dont get as deep in as you man this is a skill lmao
YOOOOO I’m glad you did this!
Great breakdown
I think this is the one time where you should definitely review the album the day it comes out
Fun fact 'Eqypt' is the 5 year old son of Alicia Keys and produces the part at 54:06
I so so so want Bob to read this! Have scrolled so far to find this comment
44:25 Ali Shaheed Muhammad is a member of A Tribe Called Quest. Interesting, I'm a huge ATCQ and Kendrick fan and didn't realize he was involved with this song. Also, ATCQ's last album, "We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service" has a cool Kendrick feature. Excited for your video on The Low End Theory!
love the shirt bob
Man i can’t wait until Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers comes out but anyways Bob you should do a reaction to the Black Panther album next which Kendrick Lamar curated. 👍🏼
2 beers in and I felt like The Fragile a bit tonight
BACK TO BACK KENDRICK !!! BOB YOU ROCK
THIS IS A SUPRISE! Thank you for this!
track 4 and 5 kinda work best played together right after the other in my opinion. the sudden transition sounds pretty dope
Well accordin to track 5 the head is the answer but not in the way 4 suggests so interesting point
I HIGHLY recommend you watch Kendrick’s live performance of Alright and Untitled 08 during the Grammys (2015 or 2016) it makes me cry whenever I see it
I love Untitled but always slept on it, so I appreciate this review.
I was about to comment "Have a Cigar" but you got it right as my fingers were reaching for the keyboard lol
2 & 7 are the best tracks -- Egypt Daoud Dean is actually Swizz Beatz child who I think played the drums on this
Yep and that’s him on the intro vocals too, there’s a video of him making the beat
Regarding Drunk by Thundercat, it’s worth listening to just for Them Changes. One of my favourite songs of all time. Outstanding bass.
Also I don’t mind when you do the new album but I’d lean toward doing it the day it comes out just because it might help your channel grow, might blow up a bit more. Hardcore fans can watch your video when we’re ready.
we need that "u" cover Bob
Hey! Not sure if you're aware, but because based on your recent album-choosing streams it looks like A Tribe Called Quest is on your radar, the producer of 06, Ali Shaheed Muhammad is one of the members of ATCQ and one of their two producers (the other is their de facto leader, Q-Tip). Can't wait for you to get to Low End Theory at some point, if you enjoy the jazziness of this and TPAB, you'll love it. It'd be a disservice to hip-hop's origins to say that TLET began the "jazz-rap" subgenre, but it is in my opinion one of the most refined examples of it.
I was going to say do the day off but I like what you said about doing it a bit afterwards, but of course it's cool either way!
Wow I commented on the DAMN reaction video that you should react to Untitled Unmastered. Thank you for reacting to this 🙏 it made my day
If you want more context on Kendricks beliefs I would recommend a track of his called "Dreams". Track is from 2005 (ish) so its a very young Kendrick, but he does talk about his world view in it in a more direct way than his albums. Although his views have definitely evolved over time, the track does mesh a lot with even his most recent music. Especially the religious aspects. There are even some lyrical references that re-appear later in his discog.
Also its just a damn good song not enough Kendrick fans have heard. Don't forget Kendrick has a lot more music that's not on his albums! He has a bunch of mixtapes, features, and his group Black Hippy.
Besides Dreams I would recommend: Young & Black, Wanna Be Heard, I Am, Ignorance is Bliss, Hood Gone Love It (feature), Cartoons & Cereal, On Me (feature), That Part (Black Hippy remix)
i think on untitled 05, anna wise sing the devil/lucy's perspective, tying in with for sale interlude on tpab where lucy is trying to lure kendrick
I would love to see you react to the C4 mixtape by Kendrick, it’s a tribute to lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III album. It has almost all the same beats and some of the same cadence. I have never seen anyone on UA-cam ever post a video about it. Would be amazing to see you react to this in conjunction with Tha Carter III
watch the untitled 3 performance on the Colbert Report. different style and has some of those lyrics you don't hear in the album version
I love Have a Cigar. Classic track
Hey man I really enjoy your videos! I know ur reaction schedule is already set in stone but I think you should definitely listen to J Coles 4 your eyez only album. It’s incredible.
It was a suprise bob, a great suprised!!
Ali Shaheed Muhammad from Untitled 6 is the producer/DJ in A Tribe Called Quest. Can't wait until you get to Low End Theory / Midnight Marauders. Absolute classics!
Can't wait for mr morale and the big steppers reaction
Kendrick performed a slightly different version of Untitled 3 on Colbert Report during Colbert's last week doing the show. Recommend looking it up. It was a little bit before TPAB was released.
My impression is that these tracks were recorded during the same sessions as the some of the tracks on TPAB. I wouldn't say these were "cut" from TPAB, but I would say that they had the potiential to make it on TPAB. If that makes any sense.
not bob throwing out kanye quotes lmao been a blast seeing your journey in hip hop
damn already having that MF DOOM merch, love to see it
My personal theory is that these tracks were meant to be the second half of TPAB. Kendrick has said before that his trip to South Africa drastically changed the sound of the record, and since "How Much A Dollar Cost" marks the beginning of the South Africa arc, I can't help but believe that these 8 tracks were originally intended to round out TPAB
BIG FUCKING SURPRISE MAN! I LOVE THIS ALBUM!
Some of my personal favorite kendrick on this one. Imo much more listenable than tpab.
Gonna keep commenting this hoping you see it:
Cilvia Demo
Price of Tea in China
WWCD
Seeing albums and getting them into the play rotation are two different solar systems, unfortunately
He gotta do Koop G rap before he dives into Griselda !! But WWCD would be fire
Just wanted to say W Bob. we love you.
You have Kendrick Lamar - Untitled 8 live performance on Jimmy Fallon or Kimmel, its honestly one of the best live performances i have ever seen from any artist
You should check out tech nine's, "Special effects" album. A genre bending album.
This my first reaction too, Bob the goat
Nice! All that’s left is the Criminally underrated Black Panther soundtrack
and of course overly dedicated + his earlier mixtape
React to the new album day of!! Just to try it out! You could always go back to a week later for future albums based on how well it goes
Family Ties Family Reacts.
Range Brothers, Vent. 2021 Kendrick verses
I would definitely check out "Drunk" by Thundercat like you mentioned if you're interested in his overall sound.
Egypt Dean the producer from Untitled 07, is Swizz Beats son, and I think he was like 8 years old when he produced on this song lol
Aye tbh you come up with other channels reacting to music but this set you apart. Big love for this. I love this album love love love
