Greco Roman Wrestling is one of the oldest forms of Wrestling in the world. A lot of people have commented on the fact that certain rules in this video no longer applies. I had to cover all my bases, as the new version of the UWA wrestling rulebook (as of April) does have these rules. People all seem to think they know the rules, but when I check in the rulebook - it's not the case. Please be sure to share the video on Twitter, Reddit or anyway you can - your help is greatly appreciated! 😀
At 2:21 are suplexes permitted in Greco Roman wrestling like the seatbelt toss or a belly to side toss/suplex, or is that only allowed in freestyle wrestling
Ninh Ly oh and great video well informed, and easy to understand, your doing a great job, and really appreciate the time and effort you put into each video.
Hi Mike. Yes, anything above the waist is permitted, so gut wrenches, suplexes, belly to belly, side toss - all are legal because so long as you you don't grab below the waist. The grander the throw, the more you score.
good luck... are we talking Naga, ibjjf, goodfight, adcc, ebi, combat jiu jitsu also we talking white, blue purple, brown, black belt cause things change at each belt too.
Great Video Nihn! I know that you've said in the past that you don't want to do certain sports because of certain reasons, but maybe you could do a mini series where you explain the rules of 3 separate sports in one video that are very similar to each other (like spikeball, 360 ball and wall ball; etc.) I know it would be a large undertaking seen as though you now have 3 channels but it is still something to think about.
I used to think that the starting position was always the par terre position and I thought it was so strange that both fighters weren't starting in a neutral position.
Most people think of wrestlers as fit and muscular, but William Taft (yes, that one) was a wrestler when he was in college! Even then he was quite big (although not as big as he would be when he was president).
I need to brush up on my Street Fighter music; I had no idea this was Zangief's theme. (My personal favorite would be the Vega theme.) Still, helpful video as always; thank you.
Great vid as usual! But I believe you have missed some key elements that needs to a appear in a video explaining the rules of Greco Roman Wrestling: 1) Greco Roman Wrestling is a man exclusive fighting sport in competition. There is currently no women official format competion whatsoever for this sport, even if many freestyle women wrestlers do ask for it. 2) Like most of the fighting sports, Greco Roman Wrestling divides its competition between weight classes, and each single wrestler can only compete in it's own weight class. There is currently 10 weight classes in GR Wrestling: -Less then 55 kg -less than 60 kg -less than 63 kg -less than 67 kg -less than 72 kg -less than 77 kg -less than 82 kg -less than 87 kg -less than 97 kg -less than 130 kg I don't know if you update your videos or not, but if you do so, you might want to have these infos appear at some point in it... Nonetheless, keep up the good work. It's a real pleasure discovering or rediscovering sports with you!
Whilst you're correct - a complete beginner doesn't need to know each individual weight class. It also makes for some really boring script. And yes, Greco Roman is only contested by men ... I left it ambiguous just in case the rules change. Once a video is uploaded, it can't be modified without deleting it permanently and re uploading. Thanks.
@@NinhLyUK It's OK, I'm just giving you some pieces of advices (and not all advices are necessarily good) in the expectative it may inspire you for future videos. For instance, if someday you make a video on synchronized swimming, make sure to specify it's a woman only sport! Other example: if you make a video someday on equestrian make sure to specify thats all the disciplines are mixed in gender. I find it rather useful info in introduction for the sport in question! I'm the kind of guy who will always make kinds of remarks on anyway I can pick one. Do not get tickled about it, I don't don't do it for free criticism, but the more I get interested in a subject, the more I need to debate. Just see these "criticts" as a a compliment: your video really interested me. Concerning the weightclasses, surely it would be quite tedious to enumerate them when you present a martial art that uses these classes. But not as much tedious than all the Fouls and Offplay conditions and causes of penalty that exists in many team sports for which you did a video already. If I remember it well, you often relied of the implementation of a written list of those conditions during the video (the people who wanted to check them could then pause the video and read), and I really believe its a good a idea so not to break the pace of the vid. Maybe you could consider thinking about doing the same when it comes to weight classes for a potential future video done on a fighting sport? (Or maybe it's just a bad idea after all...).
Olimpic Wrestling,Greco-Roman and Free-Style,is known from olimpic committe and Fila referees. You know many fight style are there. But Olimpic wrestling is a show sport includes many good techniques if you have been watched on Tv or other options.
Nope. Wrong. Freestyle is mostly boring to watch, all they do is going for the legs, predictably. GR is much, much more fun and spectacular to watch, much more technical.
Guys should be without top clothes - like MMA wrestlers who are only in elastic shorts - it's much more attractive. Mutual muscle interactions in classical wrestling are interesting. It would be like an ancient painting of the ancient olympics.
Why? Think about how many MMA fights end by choke or submission. Ground fighting is very technical and shows a lot, as it happens with judo. As well solves obstructionism and passivity attitude.
@@NinhLyUKIt doesn't. As a judoka, almost inevitably, the contestant superior in ground fighting wins. And there passivity/obstructionsim ends. Ground fighting is technical and effective. How many MMA matches end by choke or submission?
