After watching your report i was worried that they would send the small size. to my delight they sent the large size. however they were horribly mishapened from the packaging. tails were bent . I took your advise heating them up and to my delight they all 13 of them straightened up perfectly.
I bought one of these. As soon as a realized how stiff the plastic was, I tossed it. That seemingly small amount of difference in softness makes ALL the difference, especially in cold water. I’m not apposed to buying stuff from Alixpress, and have a few products that are great (especially terminal tackle), but this particular item is a hard no for me. I’m sure it will work in warmer weather and/or fished quickly (reaction bite), but as a finesse bait it’s just too rigid (in my experience). I am primarily a finesse angler, and have learned that SOME things are worth the price. When I’m spending precious time on the water, I don’t want to wonder if I’m missing fish because I’m using the wrong bait, so I stick to what I KNOW works. Anyway, rant over, tight lines!
They work. Just crimp the tail in a few spots and they have good action. Not bad for a knock off. I tend to look at it like senko and everything else. Or keitech and others.
Buying lures from AliExpress just cuts out the middle man. A perfect example is the Megabass Dark Sleeper. I used this lure since it first showed up and spent well over $200 dollars buying lures costing $6 to 7-bucks a pop. If you look on the packaging this lure is made in China as well as many other lures Megabass sells. I found other copies and also found one that is sold in the exact packaging as the Megabass one. With the only exception of the name; it is called Fish Jumping and costs $2.39 each. It seems to be the same exact lure as the Megabass one. That said; imagine what the profit is being made by buying lures from Megabass they make on one lure. I am sure buying in large quantiles increases the profit as well. I don’t mind buying lures made in the USA and paying more. I really have no guilt; buying lures from China that are the same damed thing and cost three times less either.
@@capitolbassfishing You need to try the smaller size models too. The quarter ounce model is only a little over two inches and is a killer on smallmouth as well as Largemouth. I have tried the less costly ones and they all need attention to straighten the paddle tails. It just takes boiling water to straighten the tails and letting them cool hanging from the line tie on a paperclip. I drop these puppies thru suspended Stripers and they gobble them up like jellybeans. The body material is a silicone based plastic of sorts, but they seem indestructible. Channel Cats slurp them up too. They work better in clear water than stained water. They work best without twitching or jerking. Just reel them just off the bottom nice and slow.(hunt house Official Store)
Dude this stuff annoys me so much, not because the knockoffs exist, but just because of all the drop shippers and resellers for them. My first youtube video was a "real vs fake fishing challenge" on all those dumb ALiExpress whopper ploppers that get resold for like $10 per piece on amazon. Just noticed you also made a video on those. Have you ever seen the knockoff X-Rap jerkbaits? I think I'll do those next.
I tried the knock off express ones last year. They all smelled terrible and half of them swam poorly due to a stiff or sometimes deformed tail. The ones that were swam right caught fish. The hooks kinda stink but for local bay 15lb line fishing they are good. The smell does go away eventually.
So that $1 knockoff turns into a $3 knockoff when you consider that only one out of every couple actually fishes correctly. At that point your half way to an authentic Dark Sleeper.

Yea, the original from MB is extremely overpriced. They're great lures, especially for bedding, but $6 for a silicon bait? No. If they were at least Made in Japan, you could kinda justify their price a little bit, but they what? Made in Vietnam like the vision 110's? I'll grab a few of these from ali, see what's up.
LAND WHALE you get what you pay for ! $ 6.00 for this bait is fair , take into consideration the Technology of the soft plastic, the details of the bait , the packaging of the bait so it’s not damaged and runs true . On top of the hook , the paint job on a soft bait . You don’t have to buy it , so don’t complain about the price till you take all that into consideration or just stop being cheap and crying about it ..

THE ONLY issue with the cloned version is that they're shipped in plastic bags and their tails are always bent. You boil them a bit and they'll be just fine. Megabass version is overpriced and is absolutely not worth $6. I wouldn't pay more than like $3.50/each.
LAND WHALE well you don’t have to do that with the Megabss dark sleeper , because they come in clam shell probably for that reason ! You just buy the cheap knock offs
@@JasonSmith-hz3wk No, you don't have to do it, but it takes 1minute. Exactly one minute in boiling water. I think that saving $5 per lure and spend 1minute boiling the tails is worth my time. And don't think for a sec i support clone lures. But this, this one is just overpriced as hell. Too easy to get snagged and lose it while dragging bottom and the tails get destroyed by river smallies. $6 each? No, just no.

I use the dark sleeper up in the 1000 Islands. I find it looks enough like a goby to work really well.
