Dan Barker is one of the smartest and brave guys I´ve ever seen. Annie is made of the same steel of her mother. I´m argentinean, but living in Colombia, a country extremely superstitious. You two are my help and inspiration. Kind Regards my friends.
As an older Atheist, I am not afraid to die. I'm afraid of a long, painful death, but I am not afraid of ceasing to exist. I've come very close to dying, and for me, dying will be the same as when I am put out for surgery. It is an absence of consciousness, that's all.
I've had general anaesthetic a number of times and I like to think that the actual moment of death will be like that sudden winking out. I agree with you about the long, painful death, though.
My mom told me to avoid Christians. So naturally, I snuck out to various churches. My first question for the people I met was "why do you believe in god?" Nobody had a coherent answer, My second question was "How do you define god". I received no answers. I concluded Christians had not the foggiest idea what they were doing.
[Minute 26:33]: Non-religious sympathy card... This is what I send when, for example, a friend's loved one dies: Tierra, sáname Tierra, recibe mi aflicción. Roca, fortaléceme. Roca, recoge mi debilidad. Lluvia, lava mi tristeza Lluvia, llévate mi duda Sol, haz que mi canción sea dulze Sol, recibe el enfado de mi corazón. --- Translation (approximate): Earth, cure me Earth, accept my affliction Rock, give me strength Rock, support me in this my moment of weakness Rain, cleanse my sadness Rain, dispose of my doubt Sun, make my song a sweet song Sun, accept my heart's sorrow.
Fundamental Falsehoods of Creationism - Aron Ra Sacred Cows - Seth Andrews Taking a cue from Aron Ra, if someone says "Have a blessed day." you could say, "And YOU have a magically enchanted day." :P I love Andrews comment about Vikings. :)
"Leprechaun" derives from the Irish Gaelic "Leath Choirpáin" meaning "Halfbody". In Irish mythology they were small-sized shoemakers to the "Fairies". They may also be part of Scottish Gaelic mythology but I'm not sure - the respective languages and cultures are closely related.
Do theist realize that theist apologetics is a dead craft and that their best and brightest apologist can never really win? No matter how many PhDs he has. Because the movement he starts to quote scripture and claims that magical events are possible. Right there the conversation should stop.
"Bless you" means "You just did me a favour, thank you," My atheist roommate from Alabama says it whenever I do her an unexpected favour. It is just a part of the southern dialect. Let it pass without comment. It is not an attempt to make you become a Christian.
I truly appreciate your efforts to give the public exposure to alternative views to religious dogma but you need a marketing revamp. Your website is dark, colorless and your presentations are grim, stultified and almost funereal. It is like being in church without some of the joy and celebration inherent in church services and, if anything, the joy you have discovered in being released from religious dogma is the epitome a new of joyous approach to living. Add color in your backdrop, your dress, your photographs...add joy. Seidel is the best aspect you have presented so far.
Annie Laurie's point about cheapening life by focusing on the supposed afterlife is brilliant!

Of course no religions can prove god and the Emily Dickinson quote is true: "that it will never come again is what makes life so sweet" Love FFRF!
Thank you.
