So pleased my husband found your channel, but so many questions. We have just decided to head off on our own adventure in 2028 once our boys are settled in and after Uni. I'll be emailing you.😊
Hi Louise, thank you & apologies in my late response. I know you've been in email comm's with Izzy, hopefully that's answered some of those questions.😀
@@TheGapDecaders thanks Phil, yes all very helpful from Izzy for us newbies! In 4 years or so who know what may have changed but good to get a grip on things in general.
A Very enjoyable video. One big thing that would interest me is medical care, How do you organise eyesight tests, dental care and unexpected health malodys etc?
Thank you, we actually cover this in a subsequent video in great detail, just search for "FULL TIME MOTORHOME LIVING IN EUROPE - The Nitty Gritty" Along with everything you need to know, there's a lot covered but if there is something specific please come back to us and we'll hopefully have the answer. Cheers P&I 👍🏻
Great Q&A, done with your usual good humour. Really useful too. I don't think we'll quite sell up and take to the road exclusively but we are rapidly approaching 60; about to downsize and looking to spend at least a few months at a time on the road. Glad to have found your vlog and hope it grows in followers; certainly deserves to!
It's inspiring to see how consistently you have realized your dream! And if it is then also fun in everyday life (which is not self-evident). If you go to Iceland next year, maybe we will see each other, we will be there from mid-May to early September. Best regards Marcus
Hi Marcus, thank you. we've always tried to be honest in our socials. This is our 5th year of full time travel and although it’s incredible...it’s also testing at times. We think it’s important to tell the real world experience, and not the picture perfect perception some people may have (Instagram). Sadly Iceland's on hold, we're off to Morocco in January for a few months then over to Albania & Eastern Europe until November. We'd love a catch up on the road so definitely stay in touch. 👍😀
@@TheGapDecaders Hi Phil, we don't plan to make truck live full time. As you said in your last video seeing friends and family at home is also very nice. Enjoy the trip!
Thanks for sharing this. Loved it, gives somethings to pause on and helps determening if the lifestyle would be suitable for us. Almost missed question 11 :) :D
what a lovely couple thanks for your honesty and open-ness . i am interested in your truck, your choice of manufacture and did you convert it yourself. did you have to take hgv tests etc etc
Hi Robert, thank you. The truck itself is 21 years old so non-electrical & easy to fix. The box was built by a company called Copy Cat UK 10 years ago (no longer trading). About 15 months ago I spent about three months upgrading quite a few elements including external fabrication, cab air con and internal work such as reupholstered, fitting the compost toilet, lithium batteries & Victron upgrades, new worktops, sink, tap, water filter etc, plus a whole host of little jobs to make life easy on the road. It's registered as a motothome on the V5 (which makes life a lot easier) and has a gross weight of 8.4t. I already had the license and Izzy is considering taking hers. There’s always something to tweak, fix or upgrade but that’s the beauty of these 👍
We’ve been enjoying your videos and this one was really helpful. My husband and I are picking up our 1st RV next week and we are pretty clueless. We are from the USA but bought in France so we can travel Europe. Trying to figure out where to go for the winter this year. The Poo song made us LOL - we might need to institute that in our van - would you want to share what your song is? 😆
Glad we made you laugh! It's "Lovin' You" by Minnie Riperton, we used to sing it to each other to embarrass the kids before it became the song in question! Try Morocco in the winter, it's a wonderful country and you can find a motorhome ebook and itinerary on The Gap Decaders website :)
Enjoyed your Vlog and found it really useful. I hope it’s not too cheeky to ask but have you kept a smaller property back in the uk or elsewhere? If we sold up now then we could travel full time tomorrow, but we keep going back to the WHAT IFs of health, old age etc!! I’ve wanted to travel extensively for over 30 years (I’m probably a similar age to you guys). We’ve made some first steps, but I feel time is short and you need to live your life, not just wait for the right moment as you could be waiting a long time 😊
Hi Andrea initially we sold up with the intention of returning in a couple of years and working again. We banked most of the money from the house we sold. In the end that didn't happen and we bought a small offgrid house in the Spanish mountains where we go about once a year! We had all the same thoughts as you, but in the end flipped the "what if we do" narrative to "what of we don't" and that won out :)
Hi Guys. Another great video thanks. Really interesting with many of the things we have thought about whilst waiting to have our truck body built. Question 12 would be, how do we solve all the supply and labour problems in the UK right now as it keeps pushing back the start date for our build !!!
Great incite to how it works for you. The only thing you didn't mention, was how you fund the travel? Is it a pension/shares etc, or proceeds of selling your home etc
Can I join you please 😀? I’ve traveled from Southampton to France by road with my car in 2018 and back to the United Kingdom. What I would really love to do is to take the road to Dakar Senegal from the United Kingdom. Well done guys I like what you’re doing…
😁😁, I’m with you, we’d love to drive to Dakar too but unfortunately it really is verging on dangerous, the Western Sahara & Mauritania is unstable hence the reason for the Paris Dakar rally to move to South America. We’ve written a number of posts about Morocco (free), it’s an incredible place to explore & definitely worth considering, we’ve been there many times & if we can help just shout, link for one of them below: thegapdecaders.com/driving-in-morocco/
Hi John, no... I (Phil) have an Irish passport but Izzy doesn’t however, under EU legislation I'm entiltled to the right to a family life which allows Izzy (as my wife) to travel with me providing we don't exceed 90 days in any one Schengen country, so in theory we can travel Europe indefinitely (other than an MOT requirement). We've written an article on the subject on our website but also touched on it in a later video, link below. ua-cam.com/video/FemRrmZe9uc/v-deo.html
Hi Eddy, love it 👌😊 people (campers) love to talk 💩. My best explanation to your question is by video... Give our Separett Tiny Compost toilet video a watch and that explains our toilet habits 😄 But even to date it’s our best upgrade to date 🙏
I’m delighted to have found your channel. I’m off to catch up and drink in all the experience, cheers guys!
Toilet talk - "Bottom Line" - I'm crying here...! LOL
Great advice from people actually doing it. Thanks.
Hi Simon, appreciate the feedback 🙏☺
Keep up the good. Enjoy your vlogs 😀👍👍👍🇬🇧
Thanks, will do!
Love your videos we can relate to your answers to the questions can’t wait for the next one
