£100K OVERLAND MARRIAGE - Does it Fit?
After months of planning, designing, sourcing, measuring and cutting, our big day has come. But will it all come together as planned, or will it be a complete disaster?
But before they meet, there's a huge amount to do in a tiny amount of time, and with the weather still against us, it's going to be a race against time.
To say I was feeling anxious was an understatement, in fact I lost sleep hoping I hadn't screwed up my measurements.

Great build . just wondering who supplied the pass through door as I'm going to be doin this to my truck this summer?
Hi thank you, all the doors, windows and pass-through came from Outbound windows in the NL We had these in our last truck and can highly recommend them.
Top video Phil. Well done m8
Thank you 😀
Wow! Really taking shape now - incredible what you’re doing Phil- Paul just said to me while we were watching “this is mind blowing “ you must be able to see the end of the build and the beyond of new adventures is on the horizon….. within touching distance ❤
Hi Amanda, 😂😂😂 I love your last comment, I think I may have to deploy my Go Go Gadget arms 😂... horizon being the word, but thank you. All joking aside, it does feel great that we've got the bones of our rig sorted, cos we are sooo ready for new adventures. 🙏😘
All power to you 💪. I reckon you’re going to be good to go sooner than you originally thought 🤞
Cheers Paul, very possibly maybe 😁, we gave ourselves a year but I'm hoping if we can continue at this pace to be done by early October... When I say done, these things are never done 😂🙏

Does Norwich really have that much rain????
Not normally, but it has been the wettest winter on record & Spring hasn’t been much better. hopefully the summer is just around the corner👍🏻
The logistics for this build is incredible, well done to you both. I thought building my own Sprinter was both a pleasure and a nightmare but you get there in the end.
Thank you, yeah there's a lot to think about, having done a Sprinter, you'll know the volume of work, headaches, head-scratching and small wins involved. Cheers 😂😂🙏
Thanks for sharing
Pleasure, thank you 😊
Great vids very interesting good watch.
cheers, appreciated 🙏
What mpg will your truck do ,I'm searching for a truck
We averaged 13 - 14 mpg in our last truck keeping below 50mph, this one will probably be averaging 10 mpg
@@TheGapDecadersouch!
Hey Phil and Izzy - i love your channel, especially the videos about your travels. Any idea when you will be back on the road? Do you have any friends i could watch until you're back? Im sure your new truck build is fascinating😅 but im here for the travels!! Love to you both!
LOL, love this, at least you're honest. You could check out - Live and Give 4x4, The Outfit and Global Traces. See you later in the year I hope 🙏😀
@@TheGapDecaders thanks for the suggestions! ❤️
Good evening, please, where did you find the rims for your truck?
I bought them from a company called Vrakking in NL, they're heavy duty steel (not alu) and weigh 78kg each without the tyre.
Amazing progress guys 👍
Cheers Paul
Great video. We are from the US. Thinking seriously about doing this as we have already lived this lifestyle. My big concern/ question is we do enjoy a midsize town, and without being there and getting into it, how relaxed are countries allowing you to park up behind that supermarket? Or is there campgrounds relatively close to towns? We are open to non Schengen countries as US citizens, we would be limited to 90 days out of 180. We like both wild settings and town life so trying to decide if we can put that together. Don’t really anticipate towing a car. Thank you!
Hi Stephanie thanks for your feedback :) There is lots of camping, free park-ups and designated motorhome places (aires) across Europe and many of the towns and cities have campsites close by. Some people use public transport and others carry e-bikes or a scooter to get around. Most supermarkets are happy for you to park in their car park overninght if you pop your head in and ask. I hope that helps :)
Great 👌
Hello, I am also busy converting my truck into a motorhome and saw that you had bought springs for your chassis, can you tell me where I can buy springs for my intermediate chassis, thanks Stany
hi, for all your spring needs - check out Springmasters in Ridditch. They've got a good website, look for die springs and ask to speak with their technical director Carl Jackson. Carl is a font of knowledge when it comes to springs but he won't know you’re vehicle, dynamic loads or purpose so there's only so much he can advise.
@@TheGapDecaders Thank you, i will contact him 👍
Look at Clayton power units. I am just starting a Vario build and am definitely going that route instead of Victron. Clayton was built for commercial so ideal for you!
Hi Tim, I do love a Vario 👌 We've already bought our Victron set up (back in March), we're happy with Victron as we've had various vans & properties using the blue stuff, and we haven’t ever had a problem, in fairness we got an exceptional deal from Energy Monkey. I'm not familiar with Clayton, so I'm going to head off now and do a little research 🙏😀 Good luck with the build 👍🏻
The premium fuel it's often a scam.
Also…does the waste tank actually need a breather when the tank can release pressure back through any of the waste pipes back up into the box? Unless you keep plugs in the sinks?
Hi Rob, you could probably get away without one however, I'm assuming you're putting traps in and therefore technically it's sealed. I've fitted a 21.5mm overflow which you definitely need, and this will double up as my breather.
Brilliant abso brilliant well done
Cheers Gordon 👍🏻
The monastery is St. John Kaneo. Ohrid has 365 churches
Wow, I didn't know that, we loved Ohrid and will definitely return 🙏
I’ve no intention of making such an undertaking, but am really enjoying that you decided to record and share so much of your project process, build effort, and reflection 🍻 Cheers
LOL, this is funny. Thank you for your thoughts, never say never 😀... you may decide that building an overland rig's for you. If so, I'm here for you 😂😂👍🏻🙏
Phil - if you put the waste tank fitting in the base of the tank won’t this create a lip in the base from the fitting thread that water/ sludge/food particles will sediment down below and you won’t be able to clear it out?
Hi Rob, yes good observation - there's a 5mm upstand from the plastic nut (remainder of thread trimmed off), this does create effectively a sump where sediment can settle, that's why I installed a second access panel cos periodically I jet wash it out. You can also use the silicone tank cleaning balls to help keep the scum off the sides. We had the same set-up previously and didn’t have an issue, other than having to clean it 2-3 times annually (full-timing)
Lots of work, a lot of worry, but what a sense of achievement Phil. Another great vlog, cheers.
Cheers Richard, appreciated 🙏
Interesting video ,we're just about to sell our house not because we need the money for the truck but we are just not using it and it's not an easy rental and we pay a lot of tax and insurance each year. Interesting to hear you would have purchased another house to rent and not just invest the money.
Hi, we like property and have done well from it, having always developed property we were keen to have a rest, explore for a few years (invest our funds), then return & buy another doer upper, that obviously didn’t happen. If we had of known we were going to travel for the foreseeable future, then we would have bought a rental property with a keen yield. lot's to think about, goog luck and enjoy your travels 👍🏻😀
Great progress and glad the weather gave you a break when you needed it. What is that large structure behind you when you were showing the waste tank?
Thank you, it's a converted outbuilding and an old barn 😀
Hell of a job ! Well done and mission accomplished. I salute you Sir.
😀😀 Just catch up on here, but thank you. Appreciate your thoughts 👍🏻☺
Absolutely brilliant progress. Really great to see the box coming together. Will you be having a topping out ceremony when the box is fitted to the chassis? I think it would be fitting way to mark a major milestone in the build.
😀 Thanks Peter, yeah it's been a busy few weeks but it's all going in the right direction. I'm playing catch up here (again) , I think there may have been a missed opportunity with the topping out 🙈👍🏻😀
Amazing work Phil as always. I had the same idea about a freezer Body, so it's great to see you bring it to life. 😀
Cheers Matt, catching up on here - it's a lot of work but obviously doable 👍🏻😀
Great work. You should be well chuffed!
thank you 👍🏻☺
A really interesting video. Im enjoying this build series. One question: why go for a conventional black water tank rather than a composting toilet?
Hi thank you, this is for our grey waste only. We'll fit a Separett Tiny compost toilet (exactly the same as in our last truck) We even made a video about it and both agree, that it was our best upgrade to date 👍🏻😀
@@TheGapDecaders Thanks for taking the time out to respond. I know you are very busy. Much appreciated. 😀
