Don’t know if you guys have done any research on this song, but this is the first of five songs that are part of a 12 step suite. Mike Portnoy wrote this because of his alcoholism. There are four other songs spread out on the next four albums. Part two is This Dying Soul from Train of Thought album. The third one is the root of all evil from Octavarium. Part four is repentance from Systematic Chaos and number five is The Shattered Fortress off of black clouds and silver linings. The Glass Prison represents the bottle
I didn’t expect that these songs would be playlist material for you guys at all given what I know about your musical taste but I did want you guys to experience the 12 Step Suite. If I’m being honest I don’t always want to sit through this song in its entirety when it comes up on shuffle but it is definitely a unique experience. I think James LaBrie’s singing gets the most amount of complaints from people who listen to Dream Theater so you’re not alone there. I’ve just gotten used to the way his voice sounds. The main reason I picked the 12 Step Suite is because I know you guys appreciate lyrical journeys and Mike Portnoy put together a great composition of his experience with addiction. I promise I’ll make up for it with the next few months of song picks.
The complaint on the digital effects used here may be in part attributed by the fact this song is from 2002. Accounting for the whole production process and age of the software used, they may have been from 2000 or even 1999.

Good feedback. I love the vocals and change up AFTER the cop sirens. The rest of the song from where you stopped is nothing special.
Alright…this isn’t the first time you’ve used the word “musicmanship” instead of musicianship. Once is an accident. Twice is a trend. I will now only refer to it as musicmanship because I think you’re onto something there.
