When Blood and Cheese asked Damon “what if we can’t find him” the scene cuts off and they later reveal that he said “a son for a son” so Damon was well aware that either way someone’s son was going to die that night. Also Ser Criston Cole who was announced commander in the 10 day time jump was in charge of guarding the “king’s” family quarter but we all know what he was doing instead. Viewers speculate that he told all the guards to take leave from the halls, that’s why Helaena was not able to find any.

Why would Criston order for the guards to leave the upstairs? They were not going at it hard enough for people upstairs to hear them, and Helaena walks down the stairs to get to Alicents room. This just seem like a plothole tbh..

Emma Darcys acting throughout this episode is so fucking good. They spoke one sentence throughout the whole episode and stole the show. Their expressions and physical acting was so amazing. I was heartbroken throughout the whole episode.

I saw a theory that Helaena was making her sons funeral clothes in the beginning when Aegon was looking for Jaehaerys in the beginning. She was scared of the rats because she knew they were gonna come and kill the boy since she has her premonition dreams.

In Helaena's first scene before Aegon enters the room looking for Jaehaerys, Helaena whispers "They only want the boy" and after saying that she is afraid of rats, she looks directly at Jaehaerys' crib, she did predict death of him in a prophetic dream.
Criston Cole's vendetta against Rheynera is so weird. He blames her for breaking his vows and not starting a relationship with him, like Sir?? Also he's part of the Kingsguard he should be the one outside the door along with his men that he probably had positioned elsewhere so he could act a fool alongside Alicent.

I think killing Jaehaerys was always Plan B.....When Cheese asks Daemon what they should do if they can't find/kill Aemond, he smirks and the camera cuts away to the next scene. But his response is brought up in conversation between Blood and Cheese, when Blood says he told them "A son for a son." I took this to mean that Daemon wanted them to kill Jaehaerys if Aemond wasn't an option.

Helaena is the only green that I like I feel so bad for her loosing her baby boy. Criston Cole was supposed to keep watch over the children but instead of doing that he was with Alicent.
14:54 well as we can see sir crispin was busy 😂 and the majority were guarding Aegon in the throne room. The twin guard seems to be commanding the scorpions. And The kings guard numbers also diminished after they stole the throne.
Guys in the book they don't go after Aemond to kill him, but rather one of Aegon's sons. Rhaenyra lost Lucerys, now Aegon has lost a son as well. "An eye for an eye, a son for a son, Lucerys will be avenged" and was avenged.
And once again Criston Cole has failed miserably at his job as a royal guard, instead of guarding the doors to Helaena's and her children's room, he is in bed with Alicent while Helaena's son is being killed.
That scene, which is even more brutal in the books, is why I've never chosen a side. Each one is problematic af. I just sit back and enjoy the drama.
Criston Cole is so incompetent Lord Commander of King Guards. Imagine THE Queen aka Helaena doesn't have a sworn protector. She was vulnerable that time.

In the books Daemon literally did order Jaherys to be killed as they knew it would wipe out Helaena as a dragonrider and take out Aegon's heir. He was an asshole. Instead of sneaking his ass in himself and killing Aemond.

Helaena is on the spectrum, her brain just stopped working, the way she acts is quite normal to how a lot of people on the spectrum act in highly stressful situations, running on autopilot basically, because of how her brain works she probably didn't think to lie.
Did you even watch the 1st season??? Because it's heavily implied that Halaena's on the spectrum. So obviosly she will react differently.💀
Heleana can see the future and has those dream, prophecies. On one of the analyzing videos someone said she saw what would happen if she didn’t give up the son, they would kill both of the children. That’s why after she pointed at her son, she immediately went for the daughter and got out

B&C wasn't "ruined". It's the vocal minority of purists who spent 2 years desperately trying to shape perception & sabotaging a good show for not making their sports team come off as flawless heroes & the other team as irredeemable disney villains. Yet to see a single casual reactor who was not moved. Without the book baggage this would be considered brilliant. Like Daemon mentions how Aemond is a great fighter & smirks when asked what happens if they can't find Aemond. It was obv he knew it was an impossible mission. It seems like a lot of fans can't even catch a simple subtext unless it's dumbed down & bluntly spoonfed. Some of the best parts of this ep were the political intrigue, underscoring logistics of war, the economics of blockade. Everyone paranoid & trying to sway the king. Otto & Alicent on one side but not quite together as Alicent keeps being undermined by the men in her life. Larys on the other side. Aemond & Criston on another side. These subtle political machinations are things D&D can't even dream of doing. The "farewell to peace" parallel with Rhaenyra at the funeral & Alicent at the Sept was another poignant moment.
As for B&C, HOTD just plays these moments differently to GOT. Less about shock, more about creeping unease. Part of watching GoT was about watching other people reacting in horror, surprise, etc. With HOTD I don't feel the pull to watch people shouting at the screen because it would only feel forced. HOTD had so many moments in S1 where it could have gone for a sharp stab a la GoT but instead made sure to play things out slowly. It's less interested in displays of brutality & more interested in the impact on the bigger picture. GoT (& Breaking Bad) was about dramatic moments. Hotd (& Better Call Saul) is more about everything around those moments & plays them out in a way that feels slower, less brutal & more bleak & dread. GoT had so many moments where it stabbed, even if you saw the knife coming. HOTD is more interested in digging its nails & slowly pulling a wound open.
All these "bring back D&D" posts just makes me know that a lot of so-called purists didn't hate GoT's cheap, gawdy, shock value spectacle writing, what they hated was their self-insert (Dany, Jon or Stannis) not sitting the throne. I LOVED the restraint on B&C. This was peak bleak, dread soaked gothic horror. The creeping horror of the haunting soundtrack with the cutting & sawing noises. The "emotional impact" the MCU brain wanted was heavy-handed head chopping gratuitous violence. But unsettling silent terror will always be more disturbing than gory theatrics & bright Bridgerton colors that some fans complain about! The book's B&C is an overly sadistic creative writing exercise of cartoon villains (makes sense considering it's made by fictional 'historians'). The extended psychological torment of Helaena strains credibility as B&C had no personal vendetta against her & were risking their own skin playing games in the Red Keep during a war. The show exchanges gore for dread, presents it as a straightforward hit, with the grim realism underscoring the urgency & perilous stakes B&C was in. The banality of evil instead of a Machiavellian plot makes it scarier.
It's easy to write a woman screaming & throwing up. But the brutally real pain, terror & despair Phia managed using only her eyes is more impactful. Helaena's freeze frame reaction was on point with her cassandra character & it was devastating. The total silence surrounding b&c & its aftermath made it even more jarring. Ofc Helaena called Jaehaerys “the boy”as she was traumatized & mimicking the speech of b&c. Her offering the necklace was brilliantly upsetting & endearing cause it shows she was too sheltered to realize what b&c wanted. But then you can pinpoint the exact moment when the switch goes off. It's like she has this moment of realization about what she prolly already foresaw. A look of quiet panic & resignation sets in. Can clearly see her dissociating. she didn't even realize that she got down the stairs. The first place her feet takes her is her mother's room for comfort. To wake her up from a nightmare which was alas too real.
I will never forgive Rhaenyra for seeing her house's main weapon (dragons) die and doing nothing, besides not fighting her own war, for these reasons and others that I don't support for her, the greens are more interesting
Do you have the same energy for Haelena ? Both mothers traumatised and lost their children and Rhaenyra needed to be alive and not die doing battle......The Greens are the most 1D villains even some 1ep GOT villans were more interesting
