You can even google it to confirm the age differences from the books to the tv show. It wouldnt have made sense to match the book ages considering Alicent would be around 9 years older than Nyra in the books. Its not that hard to understand I dont think.

No, she does this because she’s in love with Cole and she’s bitter because of the way her life turned out. She was jealous of Rhaenyra, Rhaenyra had Cole for a time and she also had a sliver of more freedom than Alicent. Alicent is not some tragic queer woman, she’s a miserable straight woman with crippling internalized misogyny.

In daemons defense when Rhae was screaming having her baby it’s not like he doesn’t have some trauma from his previous wife suffering and dying while he heard her screams then WATCHED her kill herself. He may have not loved fully her but he did care for her. He, unlike king V, was about to make the choice of saving his wife and now being in that room could do it all over again. Not to give him a full “out” but I know when I watched a family member pass I was uncomfortable watching another pass from that point. I wasn’t even the best in future family deaths or medical situations. So give him a little leeway. Idk it’s even more nuanced than that but I wouldn’t cast complete shame and hate against him in that moment.

When the Sea snake’s officially took team black I WISH Rhae told Laenor’s mom that he let him be gay and happy and remove himself from the family. I never really understood what it mattered that the first three boys from Rhaenyra aren't the biologically children from Leanor. Like i get that, that the Driftmarks would be pissed about it. But it doesnt matter regarding the inheritence from the Iron Throne? Because they are Rhaenyras boys and she is a Targaryen and Leanor accepted them as his own. I never understood that part of the show. And i kinda think that Daemon doesnt want power as much as he wants acknowledgment. From his brother, from the realm, from Rheanyra. Daemon never wanted the throne, he had moments where he could have tried to ursurp the throne, but he never did. He was all for having his brothers and later Rheanyras back, all for protecting the Targaryens and the realm while seeking acknowledgment

I'm curious what you meant by GRRM's writing of female characters? I'm genuinely interested because, I agree, certain sexual scenes felt unnecessary and certain characters felt somewhat oversexualised but, as a whole, he has created some of the most (imo) complex and well written female characters in fantasy.
I will admit, he really shoves the misogyny of the medieval ages down the readers throat relentlessly, Brienne chapters being a prime example, a constant barrage of micro-aggression after micro-aggression, but, although frustrating to read, I don't see that as a negative. I think it's just as important to show what women went through, emphasising their strength and determination amidst their oppression.
Exactly. If anything, David and Dan were the misogynists. They added so many assault scenes that added nothing and were never in George’s books. Take Sansa for example. They think that r*pe makes a woman stronger, which is abominable
A very fair point! I don’t disagree as I have read the books but I know it isn’t for everyone, especially in A Game of Thrones, Daenerys has her night w/ Khal Drogo while being canonically 13. It captures the historical settings of a Medieval timeframe but not everyone wants to read that. So her feelings are understandable. And those Daenerys chapters detail how the Dothraki kill, rape, and torture men, women and children-it serves a purpose emphasizing the price to win the Iron Throne but it definitely isn’t for everyone.
There was an insane amount of r*pe + majority of the female characters in his books were underage going through these things. Making it really uncomfortable and unnecessary for a fantasy series. Not everything had to be realistic considering the series had dragons and sorcerers. Its not just the female characters he does this too either and its just incredibly strange writing. I dont blame GRRM thought considering the writers royally fucked the first series. Just alot of the writing in the books is incredibly uncomfortable lol

Found your channel and I loved fun your reactions❤😊, I’m team rhaenrya all day everyday because she really deserved sm better than what she got in that cruel patriarchy world like her father viserys failed his whole entire family and mainly her who he chose to throw her to the wolves knowing the men was plotting to never except her as queen but wanted replace her with a male heir and the way he was oblivious to her fears and pains of getting married and having children when he forced her mom to constantly get pregnant to have male heirs so i think it’s so weird that a lot fans hated her or calls her a brat for not upholding the male patriarchy who doesn’t give a shit about women is crazy like she was a teen girl like I would be the same way like duh of course she’s a spoiled , privileged , entitled princess like almost everyone in the show😭😒💀, king viserys was his own worst enemy by choosing to listen to otto who wanted to stay in power since he’s a second son who doesn’t inherit anything over his own brother and daughter who told him multiple times what was so obvious that Otto wanted to ruin the Targaryen family by manipulating him this entire time because he never cared about the realm as the hand but his own house staying on top! Viserys should’ve never remarried and could’ve made daemon his heir regardless of the men of the counsel especially Otto who didn’t want daemon to be heir but if it was all about male tradition and precedent then daemon should’ve remained heir without any further discussion period! Viserys wanted to please everyone that he literally damaged his own family in the process so I blame mostly him and Otto for all of this, he literally butchered rhaenrya’s mom for a son and when he got them he chose to do nothing let alone be a good father since he got more weak and old to care! I felt bad for alicent and can’t hate her because she was a child who was raised to uphold the male patriarchy and serve the men and her dad pimped her out at 15 but she became the abuser as she got older to hate rhaenrya over not telling the truth about sleeping with daemon when it was none of her business in the first place since let’s not forget she never told rhae why she was seeing her dad in secret even though it’s not her fault for that but still she never told rhae the real truth and plus she knew otto was plotting and scheming to replace rhaenrya with her son aegon the entire time so she’s a hypocrite because she’s mad that rhaenrya isn’t miserable like her who had to her duty and follow the rules which is not rhaenrya’s fault! Otto was full blown manipulating alicent into believing that her own friend would kill her siblings in order to secure her succession when that’s bs like we have not seen rhaenrya plot or scheme not one bit otherwise she would’ve been whole different character and plus why would she wait to kill them when she could’ve done something while they were babies which would be easier with little dragons instead of waiting til they are full grown with big dragons? She was raised to be family oriented and those are viserys kids too so otto once again used a manipulation tactic to scare alicent into going back under his thumb to go against her since he couldn’t get viserys to change his mind about the succession and alicent was still supporting rhaenrya , sadly she fell for it and became unlikable later on who literally bullied and antagonized rhaenrya like which was not so smart cause why would you bully or antagonize someone that you were made to believe will kill your kids but yet your afraid for their lives but your being the aggressor!???? Why you would not established a good strong sibling relationship with her so when they can stick together and support her claim so when the time comes she won’t ever think about resorting to killing them for her claim since she loves them deeply and plus they all have dragons and would be a power house standing united together against who ever goes against them! Like baby girl alicent did not do anything right but bitch and moan/obsessed about rhaenrya’s life that she couldn’t be a good mom to her own children lol especially aegon who led the prank and she encouraged him to bully his own little brother in private but not around their nephews jace and luke who were cool with each other until alicent started grooming them to hate them! Criston Cole was a grown man who broke his own vows by sleeping with a drunk teen who had more power to actually turn her down that night but didn’t, rhaenrya never once forced him to stay and was given open chances to leave but he clearly was into her so he failed his job and it was never about running away for love but restoring his honor that he broke! @@caraboo6812 I am deeply in the lore, in short... no clear succession was in place. Viserys was fifth Targaryen king and all transfers of power were messy.
You can argue that monarch chose an heir.
You can argue that brothers were prefered before sisters (previous king Jaehaerys had in fact older sister).
You can argue that choosing Viserys was prescedent for choosing an heir (clearly Rhaenyra) and for prefering male line even more than in traditional Andal succession laws (clearly Aegon).
All in all... a mess.
