I love his use of certain words and phrases to describe his process. "Visual language" was such a perfect way to describe the visualization of his films. And using the word "opaque" to describe the vagueness of some of his shots is great. This was a fantastic interview Emma. Thanks for always prepping such deep diving questions for these artists that we adore.
Awesome, Emma! So amazing each time to see you connect with these horror icons! Your passion and hard work that you put into your channel is inspiring. Possessor proved that Brandon is a "chip off the old block," and has his own unique vision to bring to the horror genre. Can't wait to get off of work and watch this!
What a great interview! Possessor is the only horror movie to stick with me so much I had a dream where my face was melting off and woke up feeling really weird lol
Way to go, Emma! You are really stepping up your game. Most people are really well, horrified that I love horror so much (I’m a 70 year old female). But I think it’s just such an exciting genre and has been really evolving and changing since my younger days, where a rom-com is a rom-com, ya know? (No offense to rom-coms 😊) Your expertise and love for the genre really shines through, and that’s why we all love you so much. Thanks for yet another wonderful video ❤️
Let’s goooooooo!!! Love this!!! I love Brandon’s takes on horror and how we recognize all the emotions that come with the genre and why it IS film. I love how he recognizes the effect marketing has on how general audiences view horror as well as it relates to expectations.
What a snaffle!! Love Antiviral and Infinity Pool but Possessor was one of my favourite films of the twenty-first century!!!! The tone is pitch-perfect 🖤
How !!!! I watched infinity pool a couple days ago ! Like VERY very recently, the fact this interview came out is a big coincidence 😂 nice interview !! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Goddamn I am actually envious of you Emma! But also thank you. As much as he probably deserves to be left alone right now, it'd be great to see you chat with Ari Aster as well.
Brandon's movies are amazing, just like his dad's. I would also like to say that I'm Canadian too, and I'm so glad they stayed here. I can tell from this interview that Brandon is a normal, down-to-earth person who definitely was not raised in Los Angeles.
Great job on getting this interview, Emma. Brandon seems like a very nice guy and you have a good way with keeping your guests comfortable. It is a credit to how well your professional approach is and how your channel is growing.
I was feeling a bit sick and this interview made me feel better lmao So cool that you talked to him, you did a great job! He gave really detailed and thought out answers, which I appreciate since filmmakers often diminish passionate online creators like you.
Holy crap! I don't know what goes on behind the scenes to get to do these interviews, but congrats for being able to talk to and interview some of your favourite people in horror!
I really love the questions you ask - they come more from a filmmaking/editing perspective which is interesting to hear about. Love your interviews and long may they continue! :D
What a cool and likable guy. He's 2 for 2 with me, and I will watch everything he makes until I'm dead. Great interview with well thought out questions. You should be proud. 🤘
Woaahh that's cool! Great interview. I was just thinking about Infinity Pool yesterday and how original it is, especially in terms of how the story unfolds. Almost every other scene has a moment where it all explodes and becomes something completely different.
I've somehow managed to not see any of his films yet, but this has definitely made me want to make sure I get around to it now. Thanks for the excellent interview!
Hi Emma, Bought the film. Can’t wait to watch it. Then, saw there was an Uncut blu edition. Now I REALLY need that cut. Loved the interview. Thanks!!!!
What an interview! You did an amazing job Em, and Brandon seems like such an interesting and lovely person. I've only seen Possessor which I really liked but have been meaning to watch Antiviral for ages. And I can't wait to see Infinity Pool, I missed it in cinemas so hopefully I can stream it soon!
I knew I loved Brandon, but this interview has really cemented him as one of my favorite directors, thank you Emma, for the effort put into this video ♥
Awesome interview! Some really cool things covered here. I'm so glad this is finally coming out in cinemas here. I'll need to organise a group to take and melt their brains 😆
Superb video. I am always so impressed by who you interview and how cool they are. Then again, you are a fan and an excellent critic, so it is only natural...
I haven’t seen it but body horror is usually my least favorite however I’m sure I will seek it out on VOD when available. Who knows! He certainly was interesting. Great interview Emma.
I really like your interviews and the fact that you have connected with some of the luminaries in the field. I would assume it's because they watch your channel, which really says a lot. Thanks!
Just saw it (four months later!). Wow. Mia Goth is AMAZING. The 3-act structure thing is definitely apparent, though. You can watch the time and tick off the standard beats at the approximate 30, 60, 90 minute marks. Not a negative. Quite the opposite - it shows how original a film can be made within the standard structure.
Regarding the "different experiences" I can totally confirm that one, haha! I've seen Infinity Pool in Berlin in a small arthouse cinema. While my partner and me really enjoyed it, the couple next to us kept asking each other what the hell was going on. Three people of a group in the front row even left the cinema when some specific scenes took place. I guess they all had different assumptions of what they were going to experience and it was very funny to see how those were torn apart :'D
Totally agree about the self-flagelation with #writer'sblock. Same. It sucks. I go weeks or months with nothing. It's hard having a breakthrough but when you do, it flows like lava.
A favourite director of all time for me. As a massive horror fan who never connected with David's work, discovering Antiviral was one of the most exciting horror experiences I've ever had. It was as if someone had written and styled a movie for me alone. Infinity Pool rocked my world! What a genius creator, and it is such a pleasure to see this interview. I love seeing Canadian artists succeed, and it's crazy to think this man was growing up so close to me and went on to make some of my favourite films. I'd love to meet him one day, maybe the next film he releases will give me an opportunity to see him speak at a screening or something.
I think Infinity Pool is the first movie to ever silence me. Usually, when I watch a movie I can immediately go talk about in the car with whoever I'm with. After Infinity Pool, I just didn't know what to say. 10/10 for shutting me up lol 😅
I remember during a press tour for Possessor Brandon mentioned that he had a couple scripts he was in the process of working towards for his next feature. Obviously Infinity Pool was one but another was an 'isolated haunted spacecraft' Scifi-horror in the vein of Alien or Event Horizon, if I recall correctly. I'd love to see that from him next. There are far too many of those Alien rip-off movies and all of varying degrees of quality (Pandorum & Life actually being two standouts) but I think BC's variation of that would be really interesting and a refreshing experience amongst all the other straight-2-video hacks.
Hey, making something for straight to video doesn't make one a hack. Mike Flanagan has done several streaming-only releases, and theaters aren't the be-all, end all of filmmaking anymore (especially with audiences behaving so obnoxiously anymore).
I didn't connect that much with Possessor, but I loved Infinity Pool. It's such a fucked up film, truly scary in a subtle way. This was really cool! You have good interviewing skills, Emma!
@@pattiray8542 I'm also a huge fan of David Cronenberg, and I watched "A History of Violence", "Eastern Promises" and "The Dead Zone" for the first time last year. I still haven't seen "Videodrome" or "Scanners", which are the pinnacles of body horror in the 1980's. Also, both "Crash" and "Infinity Pool" could make a great double feature as well.
Damn, how did you score this? I'd love to have a chance to talk to some of those guys like Brandon, Flanagan, Bruckner, etc....not the least because I want to pick their brains about getting films out there. He seems like such a normal guy, despite the weirdness of his subject matter. I hope he has a long, fruitful career like his father.
I can’t believe you got to interview this guy, congratulations!
Emma you keep ramping up your game. What's not horror are your growing skills as a host. Thank you so much for all you provide for us.
Agreed 😊
I love his use of certain words and phrases to describe his process. "Visual language" was such a perfect way to describe the visualization of his films. And using the word "opaque" to describe the vagueness of some of his shots is great. This was a fantastic interview Emma. Thanks for always prepping such deep diving questions for these artists that we adore.
Thank you so much Meghan! He was so open which was nice
Amazing Emma! Congratulations!!!!
your list of besties gets better and better!!! Brandon seems like such a cool guy❤
bFF 👯♀️
How surreal. My favorite movie reviewer interviewing my favorite young director. Thoughtful questions and intriguing answers!!!
I loved Possessor *and* Infinity Pool! Both excellent.
What a great interview! Possessor is the only horror movie to stick with me so much I had a dream where my face was melting off and woke up feeling really weird lol

Queen!
Love this moment for you.
Infinity Pool is wild and I really enjoyed it. You had such great questions for Brandon as well! 💖
Every time you land one of these interviews, I get so hyped for you.
And thank you for that horror genre question. Great discussion!
great interview!
congrats on getting this awesome interview, Emma.
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!!!
Let’s goooooooo!!! Love this!!! I love Brandon’s takes on horror and how we recognize all the emotions that come with the genre and why it IS film. I love how he recognizes the effect marketing has on how general audiences view horror as well as it relates to expectations.
Absolutely
Marketing is so huge in how an audience receives a film. I try and stay away from it, and watch what Emma suggests!
This is so awesome! We need someone to release those masks from Infinity Pool
Yes! Halloween 2023!
Wonderful interview! Congratulations, and thank you ❤
great interview, Emma! loved seeing his takes on the "horror genre" and people getting their own particular meanings of the movies.
Super cool. Thank you for the video.
WOW!! Thats so amazing! Great work 🎉
What a snaffle!!
Great vid, he's always gonna be one whose new projects i will always make time to check out.
Great interview, Emma! Very intelligent questions that Brandon answered brilliantly. 👏👏👏
Goddamn I am actually envious of you Emma! But also thank you.
As much as he probably deserves to be left alone right now, it'd be great to see you chat with Ari Aster as well.

This interview is great! Thank you, Emma!
Great interview Emma! I left Infinity Pool with one thing on the top of my mind over all others... JAAAMMMEEESSSSEEEEYYYYY!!
Great job on getting this interview, Emma. Brandon seems like a very nice guy and you have a good way with keeping your guests comfortable. It is a credit to how well your professional approach is and how your channel is growing.
Thank you that means a lot!
Holy crap, I cannot WAIT to see this interview. I loved Antiviral and Possessor!
This was very interesting and I love Infinity Pool! Now I hope I can see his other films as soon as possible. Great job, Emma.
Great interview Emma! His take on horror is so spot on. Loved this. You asked such great questions too.
I was feeling a bit sick and this interview made me feel better lmao So cool that you talked to him, you did a great job! He gave really detailed and thought out answers, which I appreciate since filmmakers often diminish passionate online creators like you.
you're an amazing interviewer, you can tell he was very hyped by the very intelligently crafted questions you made him. Thank you for this!
One of my favorite directors working today.
Holy crap! I don't know what goes on behind the scenes to get to do these interviews, but congrats for being able to talk to and interview some of your favourite people in horror!
Thank you so much, usually it’s just PR who reach out, but some little bts info… this was at 5am haha I had to get up at 4am that day 🤣
@@spookyastronauts 😂 ugh timezones haha, but you honestly can't tell you woke up super early for this, you did a stellar job
Cool interview. Awesome questions.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS
you're a GREAT interviewer and Brandon is one of the most promising and creative directors now, i love this
Yeah I cant wait to see what he does next!
did you ever do a video of Possessor?
Brilliant director! I'll watch just about anything he releases. Great interview Emma 👏
Awesome Emma 😊
I really love the questions you ask - they come more from a filmmaking/editing perspective which is interesting to hear about. Love your interviews and long may they continue! :D
Thank you so much Sammie, yeah I love asking questions I’m actually curious about haha I hope they feel a little different than the usual
What a cool and likable guy. He's 2 for 2 with me, and I will watch everything he makes until I'm dead. Great interview with well thought out questions. You should be proud. 🤘
OMG, OMG 😱 Emma congratulations this is amazing!!!!!! Can’t imagine anyone else interviewing him!!!
Thank you so much!

Wow, Emma! So freakin cool you got to interview this director! Gotta say I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw the video notification 😌
What an amazing interview!!! I would love it if you did more! So grateful that he is willing to talk about his films like this.
Thank you!!
Emma, thanks so much for this interview! Just watched Infinity pool and was so happy to find this
This is so cool!! I'm so happy that you had the opportunity to interview him. You did a great job as the interviewer as well. Cheers!
Thank you!!!

So glad you've improved since Antiviral. Keep em coming, Brandon👍
I even prefer Infinity Pool and Possessor to your dad's already awesome work.
Emmmmma this was soo good! He seems like such a sweet guy. Great questions and great editing as well. Proud of you
Yeah he was great, thank you so much!
brilliant. I loved Infinity Pool. It pained me to see so many people out there shitting all over it... I'm seeing the same thing with Beau Is Afraid
Fantastic work Emma. Thanks so much for this insightful interview.
Possessor was one of the best films of this decade
It is so awesome to see you getting to do interviews like this!!! Great video, congrats Emma!!! 👏

It's great to see Brandon Cronenberg directing movies that are almost reminiscent to his dad's work towards body horror.💯
I am, and have been from the beginning, a big fan of David Cronenberg. Now I have added his talented son to my list of favorite directors.
