In my top 3 film makers (along with Lynch & Carpenter), but I will say that 3 films I find hard to get into are Fast Company, M. Butterfly & Cosmopolis. None are what I'd call boring however. There are audiences who will find their subject matter as interesting as their film maker clearly did. I am not among them, but at the same time I applaud David for standing behind them as films he's proud of!

David is one of the best if not the best director I have ever known. Not to mention his screen writing, acting and producer skills. Some of his movies are way out and just whole heatedly brilliant an example being eXistenZ, Crash, Dead Zone, Scanners and Dead Ringers. He is just brilliant and he reminds me of the late Richard Belzer of Law and Order SVU fame, in looks and personality. In fact judging by Cronenberg's movies and what i have seen and read about Richard, they appear to have very similar personalities and mannerisms. Belzer is just plainly brilliant in his own right, the world lost a wonderful actor when he died in 2023. His cynical outlook on Land Order was just brilliant and a pleasure to watch. But Cronenberg is a legend in his own right. All his movies have a weird touch about them but they are brilliant none the less.

How dare you ask: “Were any moments that you were insecure?” The man has made a whole disturbing body of work that defined the medium, he knows he is a Giant, a Titan of uncompromised proportions and ideals, he is what every true filmmaker should aspire to, you must have a forceful impregnable conviction to build a career like that…

Cronenberg is an intellectual - all his films are based on solid ideas that came from reality, science and the human condition. He's an artist because his films cause a reaction, even if that reaction is revulsion. The aim if the director is to move the audience, to transmute them from before to after the film, Cronenberg achieves this with every film and whatever his budget. This makes him a cinematic visionary up there with any of his peers.

I'm not a fan of Cronenberg, however I grew up watching some of his movies and if I could appreciate one in particular, it would be "Map to the stars" as it was the first time a Rob Pattinson's performance caught my attention. Then, I saw him in The Lighthouse, Good Time in which he looks actually like he's on dr*ugs, frankly he's the new Daniel Day-Lewis of these times. As a result, he earned everyone's respect with his "The Batman's" role.

Try to appreciate how the interviewer switches his point of view from calling Cronenberg a sicko at the starting line and then flawlessly invokes the director's name recognition less than five minutes later/? Appreciate how interviewers can loudly contradict themselves but for the person actually creating something beyond contorting their voice into a soft pillow for their egos. They're not *all* like that, mind you, some actually have a depth of nuance greater than a waterbottle cap.

god though... you're an atheist. it says so. but look. we all live a tortured existence. we do have moments of release. the patterns of genetics and biological determinism do work to people's benefit. luck is a factor. and people don't understand how lucky it is to be someone else. no-one understands the experience of being someone else. we're just fated to be the person we are.
