I had the same bike in 1982, I was 22 years old and I got it brand new for $2,495. Best bike I ever had, rode it for 8 years with no problems. Started 2nd kick cold and 1st kick warm, no throttle on start up. I had the flat side 38mm mikuni card, and a white bros works air box. I rode it all summer on the weekends on one top end, and in 8 years I never had one engine problem with it, loved the 4 speed, and it would wheelie on you at half throttle in every gear but 4th.
I had a Yamaha IT 465 and theres no way on earth i could use my hand to turn the engine over. If it backfired it could break your leg.I’m thinking your ideal compression is around 140-160 psi…Also a great technique i learned on starting big bore bikes…..and any two stroke bikes in fact…..turn on the gas and choke….lean the bike over till the fuel comes out if the overflow… stand the bike back up, kick slowly to compression just past top dead centre or until the compression stroke eases slightly…and THEN, give it the beans…..it always seems to work and looks pretty cool too. Good luck 🤞🏼🏁
My favorite. Great bike, looks awesome! Did you find the front brake cable threaded adjustment sleeve tricky to screw into the hub without it breaking? Because thats what happened to me 🤬
The DG silencers are horrible for performance, I raced a rode a 82 RM465 from 2009-2013- once I replaced the DG silencer with a stock length aftermarket- wow what a difference in mid-top end!
Beautiful build. Who did you buy the tank decals through? I have a 1982 rm80 and rm125. I’m looking for better than what I have. Bought thru eBay. Seller in Australia. Not the greatest. They are bubbling. Thanks 🙏

Rare and cool.i remember back in the day every one was on a yz or the new cr 480 back in those early early 80s..which makes that 465 .rare and cool
i got one aswell need to get it running, great video!
Rebuilding my 1983 suzuki rm500 can't wait till I'm finished
Air leaks are the sneaky gremlins on a two smoker.

@dean754 I’ve taken a screenshot of your tip I’ll try it on my it 490 and rm 500 when the time comes 👍🇦🇺
Kicking a fresh big bore for the start always sucks, especially if it's a bit chilly out

Don't remember having any problems
It's got a 1984 rm125 front forks and dls front hub on it,it would be like a later rm500
Pulling with the pick up all ways works
Something is not right, with the choke on and no throttle, it should start from cold on the 2nd kick, 3rd kick at the most.
Starting fluid in the cylinder head..

That's good to know, love the comment sections!

If I remember correctly I git them from DC plastics, and they get them from a place in England but I can't remember the company's name
@@davesfordperformancegarage4511 thanks very much. I’ve bought from them before. Didn’t know they sold decals. I’ll check it out 👍
