Hi Matt, very interesting historic cemetery especially the old section with a great variety of markers. 0.52 Elisabeth Hofer ???- 1865 ; wjfe of Jacob Hofer 64Y 3M 28D 1.08 most likely footstone 1.16 Skelly : Willis Roy ; memorial at the back of parents grave.Cremains : cremation leaves behind an average of 2.4 kg / 5.3 lbs of remains known as ""ashes "" or ""cremains"".This is not all ash but includes unburned fragments of bone mineral, which are commonly ground into powder.They do not constitute a health risk andmay be buried, interred in a memorial site, retained by relatives or scattered in various ways.James A. & Flora Alice Gonser Skelly, parents. 3.00 Hayward : Ann E. Shepherd 1795- 1860 ; wife of Isaac.Next to her Isaac 1791 - 1881.Both are born in England (Somerset).
3.19 most likely Hayward, row filled with burials from the Hayward family. 3.24 pink stone markers : Louisa Chaffee 1837- 1873 , 36 Y & husband William 1838- 1906; married 2x, Louisa (1st), Caroline Layer (m. 1873, also in cemetery, next to family marker).Son of Isaac & Ann E. 3.33 Nancy ??- - 1870. wife of F. Hayward, aged 33Y 11M 23D.Also infant daughter of F.& N. Hayward. Next to her marker with lettering on top ( ?.H.) 3,53. My favorite type of marker: WOW tree. This one has not many detais & ornaments on it. Name is on scroll tied to the tree by rope. Robert A., son of F.& N. Hayward ???- 1901. ""Gone never to return "". 4.51 Hollis Johnson ??- 1863 61Y 11M 3D
5.18 Dryer : Elizabeth ??? - 1871 aged 82 years. Next to her : Laura 1825 - 1898 ; first school teacher in Salem Township.Daughter of Darius & Clarissa. Welcome ( interesting name !!) 1821-1863 , son of Darius & Clarissa; newspaper editor; aged 41 years.Next to him mother Clarissa Rogers 1801- 1885, wife of Darius ( m. 1820, 9 children ), 83Y 4M 8D.Next to her husband Darius 1796-1861, clothier by trade , soldier n war of 1812, teacher ( 4 of his children were schoolteachers).Also on marker : Zenas Briggs 1833-1862, died in New Orleans (soldier), aged 27. Flag is for Zenas, not father Darius. 7.28 2 markers for children/ infants ( lamb on it)first : Morty W. son of W.L & L.A. Dryer , ??? - 1867 aged 3Y 3M 15D; One with rounded top could be Laura, daughter of William L & Lodema ???- 1869, 1Y or less. 7.36 William Laurent, son of Darius & Clarissa 1831-1884 52Y 7M19D and wife Lodema Taylor 1841- 1884, she has also marker with name & dates ( 8.11)
8.26 O'dell: Mary A./E. Wright, married to Frank O'dell, no children, Next to her mother Emily Palmer Wright, husband Richard E. Wright ( m. 1840, 8 children). 8.56 Important marker, reason why many people visit this cemetery : Revolutionary War veteran Ethan Rogers. His daughter Clarissa is married to Darius Dryer.Buried next to Darius.Agree with you Matt about places like these and the importance / historic value.Just stop, take a look and you might be surprised .Cemeteries/ graveyards need to be maintained, markers restored, put upright, etc. This is part of (local) history and maybe yours.......THanks for taking us with you to these amazing, interesting places Matt.
