- Monday 15th, April 2019. The world watches in horror as Notre-Dame, Paris’ iconic cathedral, burns. While news stations around the globe cover the events live and the streets fill with people in shock, an extraordinary story was taking place behind the scenes. Just a few key moments decided the fate of the Notre Dame, saving it from total destruction.
Director Emilie Lançon gained access to unpublished images and exclusive testimonies from the Paris Fire Brigade, from the highest-ranking officers to workers on the ground. She speaks to General Gallet, commander of the firemen of Paris, who after the astonishing collapse of the spire, masterminded the last-ditch desperate attempt to save Notre-Dame. With no time to spare, he scribbled a strategy on a simple piece of paper. The plan put the lives of dozens of men and women at risk but nonetheless gained the approval of the President of the Republic. One short moment where everything hung in the balance. For the first time, we show these incredible scenes.
This film reveals the previously unknown events in an extraordinary battle to save the Cathedral, including the moment the spire collapsed, causing a gigantic blast effect that closed the doors, trapping in the firefighters inside and how the Cathedral’s treasures were preserved in a desperate race against the clock.

Fun fact: The makers of the game Assassins Creed helped to rebuild Notre Dam because they had digitally scanned the building for the game, and they also donated 500k towards the rebuild.
I visited Notre Dame with my 89yr old father 2 days before the fire. We had traveled from Australia to Paris specifically to see Notre Dame’s flying buttresses. (Dad was a builder & it was on his bucket list) Our hotel was in walking distance. We were so saddened to hear about the fire.
An amazing look behind the scenes of that horrible inferno that very nearly destroyed Notre Dame Cathedral. The bravery of the firefighters coupled with the essential training that prepared them to successfully control a conflagration of such magnitude is the reason that the Cathedral was saved from complete destruction. I hope that those who made this wonderful video will make a documentary that follows the laborers and the artisans who faced the daunting task of cleaning up the debris left by the fire and restoring this magnificent building to its former glory.
I visited France in 1987 because I ALWAYS wanted to. Mostly due to its religious & political history, language, art, cathedrals, the place of the French Revolution, and Paris by day & by night, and EVERYTHING about France!
I visited Notre Dame and have pictures galore of France. I made WONDERFUL friends there.
When, Notre Dame burned, for me it felt that a divine judgment was being fulfilled, especially because of the timing and the fact that no one could stop that fire.
Yesterday was the anniversary of Notre dome fire. I can't believe it's been 5 years
Ich bin Deutscher aus Berlin, bei uns Berlinern, von denen viele schon als Touristen Gäste in Notre Dame waren, löste die Meldung über das Feuer einen Schock aus. Auch noch heute ist das Gefühl noch nicht verschwunden. Wenn wir mit der Familie eine Doku o.ä. über Notre Dame sehen, ist man immer etwas angespannt. Das war sehr sehr knapp vor der endgültigen Katastrophe. Wir wünschen Notre Dame für die Zukunft alles Glück der Erde. Vielen Dank für den heldenmütigen Einsatz aller Helfer.

The church should have maintained a 24/7 fire marshal presence in the cathedral. The fire marshals need not be excusive to this task. They might have doubled as security. This would have ensured a prompt and correct response.

I remember that day. It was so sad that the church of Norte dome was on fire 🔥. It was a best church in Paris ever. That's were everyone go to church every day 😮😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Until now, there is still no culprit as to who was behind it, if there was someone behind it.
Many possible failures. A builder forgot to unplug a faulty power tool. Supervisors and a site engineer failed to enforce a tidy and safe work environment. The Church and/or Ministry of Culture failed to provide competent fire marshals 24/7, and others.
Imagine 30 minutes had to elapse before the fire was detected?

these church fires, natural or otherwise, unfortunately helps the church&the communities surrounding them. it gives fire fighters &police something to do&it helps generate money for these organizations, all buildings overtime need maintenance &a lot of times people wont put money into things if they don't see the value in doing so. a fire like i said helps workers feel less useless &"earn" their pay&makes people feel a lot more inclined to donate since most churches financially survive off of donations/offerings/tides etc.., a lot of people don't like to give unless they feel obligated by law or feelings which people can work their way around. i know groups in the early 90's had their reasons for burning churches &/or at least the reasons that they tell the general public, people like Kristian Vikernes, even the he claims to detest police is the type of person i could see working with officials to help create/spread/maintain an agenda that in the long run benefits the church/state/country officials. people like Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth may not have been as helpful to these types of organizations or play ball in the same way others might be willing to, everyone has a price&some people are or come off cheaper than others. not saying that all church fires or fires are for generating income but there is corruption in all industries& situations in life, people just try to find the way that benefits them &sits with their moral compass the best. not always best though.
It was a sign of the begining of the rapid decline of Christianity.
