Until 4/25/19... So sad. I was surprised to learn that most of the stained glass was already a re-fabrication following destruction during the Revolution. I do hope that the cathederal, which appeared to be mainly intact despite the ravages of the fire, will come back better than ever.

Actually, a lot of the wood in the roof is only century old, because, during World War I, artillery shells hit the roof, and caused a huge fire(!), necessitating new wood. Of course, having been there for a century, it naturally became as fire prone as any wood that's older.
A profoundly sad the great Cathedral partially gutted by the Fire on 15th April '19, a very French Icon with great History of the French nation and Europe covered in his vail.

"Notre Dame has had the good fortune not to experience a major fire" Until April of 2019 that destroyed a large part of the cathedral. Almost all of the framework being lost, and even after the restoration is complete in 2024-2025, will never be the same. For those who have never been there, including myself, will never see the cathedral as it was.
I still remember the first time I saw and heard something about this cathedral. This occurred when I first saw the film The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) on TV around 1970. A few decades later I learned that the film was not filmed in Paris. But anyway, the cathedral didn't come into my life as a religious monument, but as a character in the film based on the character in Victor Hugo's book. I don't know if I would like to see Notre Dame in person. Some things have more beauty, meaning and importance when we don't get close to them.
The fire was tragic indeed, and now much of the world is shut down with COVID 19 and its variations. One suggestion, if ever we can safely travel again, is a visit to Montreal and the other Notre Dame, the Basilica. It is truly stunning and is so often unexpected. Yes the world has another remarkable Notre Dame, one that is a spectacular celebration of colour. The most beautiful city in North America has much to offer the traveler.

Relics is the mistake Rome made when they usurped leadership in the Christian church. They might not have been the first protestant church, but they were the first to leave the church of Constantine. We do understand why the Catholic religion chose relics. It was because Rome murdered so many of the original 12 Apostles of Christ. The church is supposed to be built on the graveyard holding those bones. That is supposed to make the church more worthy than the original church. I doubt anybody asked God.

Medieval cathedral.
They have no idea what they have done. Let's pray for who ever burned this church.
I know we are suppose
I know God tells us to but I can't at the current moment...
No terrorist or vandal burned this church. It was an electrical fire. Quit spreading conspiracy theories.
You’re a moron. It was an accident.
Amen +
