If the humans would have triggered it, then you could at least argue that it was their fault and that Superman cleaned up THEIR mess,but that didn't happen. It was all Clark's fault.

SuikodenPlayer The problem with Superman is that he's so stupidly overpowered. There are no actual limits on how strong or fast he can be. In fact one of the official statements about Superman is that he can literally be a strong or as fast as he NEEDS to be in order to win. The only limitation is his mind and his ability to think. In "The Dark Knight Returns" (which this movie appears to be loosely based off of), Batman defeats superman by taking advantage of that. He explains that Superman never had to strategize because he was so powerful. After a series of misdirections and attacks directly against Superman's weaknesses(sonic to abuse his advanced hearing, fighting at night when supe can't directly power from the sun, etc), Bruce goes toe to toe using power armor and still ends up getting beaten half to death. The final attack actually comes from Green Arrow using a kryptonite arrow(which Superman catches before it hits). But the arrowhead explodes into a cloud of kryptonite dust, finally weakening Supes to where Batman can beat him. EDIT: In "The Dark Knight Returns", before the final fight between batman and supe, earlier in the story Superman is blasted by a nuclear explosion which nearly kills him. Supes had not recovered to full strength before the fight.

keloid long Carefully read the context of what I said again. I said Batman explains to superman how he was beaten, not that I personally believed that about superman. A lot depends on what version of superman we're talking about as well. In some versions, Superman is a high-level scientist with kryptonian technology that far surpasses human abilities. In other versions superman uses all his senses combined with extreme levels of intuition and logic. But we've also seen instances of supes losing his cool and going into a rage where his decision-making ability isn't at it's best. Personally I think the "Man of Steel" version of superman is still young and inexperienced enough that an older, wiser Batman will take advantage of and both out-think and out-plan. But we'll see.
I think there's something you're missing here. I noticed that when you were talking about batman's motivations, you didn't pay much attention to his dialogue when he was speaking with Alfred. He literally said this "20 years in Gotham, how many good guys are left? How many stayed that way? He has the power to wipe out the entire human race... and we have to destroy him!" Think about what he's saying here. Yeah, I think hes definitely pissed off and angry, and yes that is probably clouding his judgement a bit and pushing her actions. But consider these words. He's basically saying that its only a matter of time before superman turns. Because of his experiences and all of the bullshit he's put up with over the years. He's saying that given time even superman will turn, and when he does he'll be the biggest threat to humanity. So they have to destroy him, before he becomes a problem. To me that's an admission that he realizes that superman may not be a bad guy. Sure he may still blame him like the rest of the world does, but those words makes it seem like he's acknowledging that superman isn't a threat "now", that he may be good "now"... but what about the future? see what I'm saying? Just thought I would point that out, doesn't seem like the bats is going to be an idiot at all. Though I still have no idea how hes gonna put up a fight against supes. Hoping they cover all their basis...

And guess what, joker is torturing someone in the leaked suicide squad trailer, and why do you think batman is in the movie? EDIT: I would like to add something; if the S is Superman's symbol of hope in this movie universe, and the soldiers (presumably) are 'acting on his behalf' via Lex, but then is betrayed by said man and forces- and the blame is being put onto Superman, then these soldiers literally and figuratively represent: false hope (maybe even turning Superman into a 'false prophet' with the whole saviour-aspect). Unless they were to invent a new weakness for him, though Joe's idea of it having to do something General Zod's suit makes no sense to me. History of Video Games I know that but they haven't established any of that in this universe, for all we know in the DCCU there is no Magic or different kryptonite, and The red sun is usually created by aliens e.g. Zod (Who we know is gone) which also would take a few movies to establish correctly. The problem isn't that there hasn't been other weaknesses written into the lore. The problem is that the powers of Superman doesn't work well within a movie universe that is trying to portray a dark and gritty world. The idea that his powers would cause a lot of destruction is a good way of trying to fit him into this world, but it didn't work out. I am not saying this movie will be bad, I am saying a DC universe movie or movie universe would work better without Superman

AGAIN, the reason why we hated the battle in MoS is not because Supes and Zod caused destruction, it;s because Supes did not even care about it, nor did he try to redirect Zod's attention away from the city.

What I'm saying is that he could've pushed Zod out of the city by continually beating him, or verbally confronting him to not hurt people or to damage the city. Zod was targeting Superman out of anger, he wasn't even focused on the city after the World Engine exploded. Superman could have flown out of the city and Zod would've followed. Zod seeing that he's drawing him out, could've then focused his anger and unleashed his fury out on the city. All the fight was was mindless blurry fighting, just like a Michael Bay movie.

In all honesty, most super heroes and real life heroes have a Jesus quality to them, but especially a hero like superman, and not just by being this all powerful being, but because he shares many moral values, characteristics of sticking to the righteous side of justice even if he is rejected or accepted by few or many, serving humanity and taking on evil in any shape or form it takes even if it means he will die. Personally, it only proves why people needs a hero and giving superman a Jesus angle is great. Heck, if they did it with Batman or Wonder Woman, it could still work.

I think people hate how FORCED it was in the first film. Symbolism is an issue in films sometimes. Nobody is rushing anything. Sequels for sequels sake are nonsensical. Iron man 2 and iron man 3 didn't develop anything. Nothing that happened in those that carried over. It was a waste of money. Why make tons of sequels on one superhero when you could use that money to make films about other superheroes that haven't had the chance to shine.

Has no one heard of Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns"? Probably the closest comic to which this film is based? Joe's comment about the "fat batman logo" slightly infers he isn't familiar with frank miller's style, but i'm sure he is. Anyone thinking Batman could never defeat Superman needs to read the comic and realize Batman plans the encounter for months, predicting every possible outcome and reaction superman could have and having the appropriate response to it.. Batman knows he can't win, he has other motives.

We live in a world were we always want to blame someone for bad things, something's you can't blame anyone but we try to because it's our human nature, so humanity( and I mean the ones who lost loved ones and stuff in man of steel ) looking at superman as a scapegoat even though he saved them. It's likely that in this universe, Bruce Wayne has retired as the Batman, which would explain why he wasn't suited up in Metropolis. The events of Man of Steel most likely prompt him to come out of retirement, Dark Knight Returns style.
Batman and Wonder woman was AWESOME in the cartoon. Superman and Wonder women also don't fit at all. Lois is perfect for him. If he goes with Diana its kinda like one op guy with another op girl, while if he goes with lois its like he chooses humanity and that he wants to be with a normal human. Being with Diana would just separate him from humanity even more.
Flash and Aquaman is also in the movie, go check imdb. Superman's eye laser does not go at the speed of light. The laser itself MIGHT go that fast, but he actually has to get it to heat up enough before firing, which takes a second or two. Also Batman has the armor, which would make the laser do next to nothing. Also, by "red-capes" he is referring to Superman and his posse. The Wayne Enterprise sign is on the ground next to Bruce when he hugs the little girl, which is referred to in the paper later.
My theory is Lex will create Doomsday out of Zods corpse. Batman and Superman will fight each other with no clear winner then Doomsday will appear and Alfred will convince Batman to help Superman and will call in Wonder woman. Superman and Doomsday will be fighting and then Batman and Wonder woman will turn and help defeat Doomsday and just like the comic-books Superman will die.

Superman even has a new heat vision attack that is super op. Superman is weak to kryptonite, saving people, and deep down being a good person and never killing. He could literally toss batman through some building or just squash him between his fingers. Also his heat vision can go pretty far so kryptonite is not always viable. Batman is good don't get me wrong just not against superman. He wins in the comic because superman has to pull punches. So Wonder Woman had up to Infinite Crisis the best gear ever. Her bracelets were indestructible and had additional protective active protective abilities. Utilizing their indestructibility and her strength she could clang them together to create a concussive wave or a very loud sonic clang (which made her own ears bleed and made Supes ears bleed). After Infinite Crisis during the Gail Simone run on WW Zeus unlocked an additional property: she could clang them and unleash a blitzkrieg of Zeus' lightning capable of OHK-ing Titans. So in the clip it could be that she is using the defensive Aegis Effect where she crosses them and wave attacks are stopped cold or she cpuld be using one of the offensive powers
I HATE how they portrayed the Kents in these new movies. The Kents are meant to be why superman is superman, they give him his humanity and it's what separates him from people like Zod.
They ARE showing him humanity. Humans aren't perfect. People hate what they don't understand. They raised him to do the right thing, but were also aware that people would question, fear, or hate him. People in real life are reacting the same way to Superman in man of steel as the actual people in the films. Its a good yet annoying thing.

gyloir I disagree. The Kent's come off mpre human than Jor-El. Johnathan and Martha were fully aware of what could happen if Clark's secret was revealed. Its not like Pa Kent told him not to save them. He himself is even questioning what the right thing to do at the time was. Risk exposure and endanger his son, or save a stranger. The right thing to do would obviously be to save the other kid during the bus sequence, but that's what makes them human. You're unsure of what to do. They clearly raised clark right, but I'm positive they weren't prepared to raise a boy that can move faster than a speeding bullet. Jor-El has the right idea, but you can't save everyone. There will be casualties. But he tried to instill the symbol of hope to clark so that he could use his abilities to his fullest and at least TRY and save as many people as possible. Clark needed them both in his life. The Kent's for his humanity, and Jor-El for his abilities and understanding of his place and role in the universe.

Mr. Mzyxptlk can alter reality for some really mind bending maps. Darkseid's omega beams could be a one hit killer if you don't dodge them.

SuikodenPlayer The problem with Superman is that he's so stupidly overpowered. There are no actual limits on how strong or fast he can be. In fact one of the official statements about Superman is that he can literally be a strong or as fast as he NEEDS to be in order to win. The only limitation is his mind and his ability to think.
In "The Dark Knight Returns" (which this movie appears to be loosely based off of), Batman defeats superman by taking advantage of that. He explains that Superman never had to strategize because he was so powerful. After a series of misdirections and attacks directly against Superman's weaknesses(sonic to abuse his advanced hearing, fighting at night when supe can't directly power from the sun, etc), Bruce goes toe to toe using power armor and still ends up getting beaten half to death. The final attack actually comes from Green Arrow using a kryptonite arrow(which Superman catches before it hits). But the arrowhead explodes into a cloud of kryptonite dust, finally weakening Supes to where Batman can beat him.
EDIT: In "The Dark Knight Returns", before the final fight between batman and supe, earlier in the story Superman is blasted by a nuclear explosion which nearly kills him. Supes had not recovered to full strength before the fight.

keloid long Carefully read the context of what I said again. I said Batman explains to superman how he was beaten, not that I personally believed that about superman.
A lot depends on what version of superman we're talking about as well. In some versions, Superman is a high-level scientist with kryptonian technology that far surpasses human abilities. In other versions superman uses all his senses combined with extreme levels of intuition and logic. But we've also seen instances of supes losing his cool and going into a rage where his decision-making ability isn't at it's best.
Personally I think the "Man of Steel" version of superman is still young and inexperienced enough that an older, wiser Batman will take advantage of and both out-think and out-plan. But we'll see.

I think there's something you're missing here. I noticed that when you were talking about batman's motivations, you didn't pay much attention to his dialogue when he was speaking with Alfred. He literally said this
"20 years in Gotham, how many good guys are left? How many stayed that way? He has the power to wipe out the entire human race... and we have to destroy him!"
Think about what he's saying here. Yeah, I think hes definitely pissed off and angry, and yes that is probably clouding his judgement a bit and pushing her actions. But consider these words. He's basically saying that its only a matter of time before superman turns. Because of his experiences and all of the bullshit he's put up with over the years. He's saying that given time even superman will turn, and when he does he'll be the biggest threat to humanity. So they have to destroy him, before he becomes a problem.
To me that's an admission that he realizes that superman may not be a bad guy. Sure he may still blame him like the rest of the world does, but those words makes it seem like he's acknowledging that superman isn't a threat "now", that he may be good "now"... but what about the future?

Semore Butts dawn of justice was/is supposed to be a MoS sequel. So superman should be the focus not batman. DC just shoehorned in batman so that they could catch up to marvel and cash in on the big fight. If you actually watched the video, joe doesnt say anything about batman being the villain. EDIT: I would like to add something; if the S is Superman's symbol of hope in this movie universe, and the soldiers (presumably) are 'acting on his behalf' via Lex, but then is betrayed by said man and forces- and the blame is being put onto Superman, then these soldiers literally and figuratively represent: false hope (maybe even turning Superman into a 'false prophet' with the whole saviour-aspect). Then again, I might be going too far here haha.

Unless they were to invent a new weakness for him, though Joe's idea of it having to do something General Zod's suit makes no sense to me. The one weakness to a rare material that somehow is obtainable by any number of villains is one of the primary reasons I don't like Superman as a hero, but that's his character.

History of Video Games I know that but they haven't established any of that in this universe, for all we know in the DCCU there is no Magic or different kryptonite, and The red sun is usually created by aliens e.g. Zod (Who we know is gone) which also would take a few movies to establish correctly. The problem isn't that there hasn't been other weaknesses written into the lore. The problem is that the powers of Superman doesn't work well within a movie universe that is trying to portray a dark and gritty world. The idea that his powers would cause a lot of destruction is a good way of trying to fit him into this world, but it didn't work out.
I am not saying this movie will be bad, I am saying a DC universe movie or movie universe would work better without Superman

AGAIN, the reason why we hated the battle in MoS is not because Supes and Zod caused destruction, it;s because Supes did not even care about it, nor did he try to redirect Zod's attention away from the city.
And? He was new and inexperienced. It's not like he was in control of the fight enough to redirect them. And if he were to try and lead them out they would stay and terrorize to draw him back in.
That's a bloody stupid explanation. Throughout the whole movie he's cared about helping people. The final battle ignores that. What I'm saying is that he could've pushed Zod out of the city by continually beating him, or verbally confronting him to not hurt people or to damage the city. Zod was targeting Superman out of anger, he wasn't even focused on the city after the World Engine exploded. Superman could have flown out of the city and Zod would've followed. Zod seeing that he's drawing him out, could've then focused his anger and unleashed his fury out on the city. All the fight was was mindless blurry fighting, just like a Michael Bay movie.

In all honesty, most super heroes and real life heroes have a Jesus quality to them, but especially a hero like superman, and not just by being this all powerful being, but because he shares many moral values, characteristics of sticking to the righteous side of justice even if he is rejected or accepted by few or many, serving humanity and taking on evil in any shape or form it takes even if it means he will die. Personally, it only proves why people needs a hero and giving superman a Jesus angle is great. Heck, if they did it with Batman or Wonder Woman, it could still work.
To be fair, Superman WAS created to make fun of how Christians see Jesus as this perfect being.

In all honesty ... Yeah, you can't compare superman to Jesus or Jesus to superman. One is based in fiction, the other is based in reality. I think people hate how FORCED it was in the first film. Symbolism is an issue in films sometimes. One could argue if God exists in this universe, then Superman is a force for God to fight against evil. I mean, I guess Joe isn't religious or he just doesn't like comics mixing with that, but I agree with how the logic comes in. Many parallels, but that could be because Superman's creators took influence from Christ in creating his motives and morals.

Nobody is rushing anything. Sequels for sequels sake are nonsensical. Iron man 2 and iron man 3 didn't develop anything. Nothing that happened in those that carried over. It was a waste of money. Why make tons of sequels on one superhero when you could use that money to make films about other superheroes that haven't had the chance to shine.

I highly doubt that's the destruction in Man Of Steel was apart of the plan because of the way the film ended. It was completely over looked. I think he went back after all the complaints and made it the central story this time around instead of something else.

Bruce uses a sonic blaster followed by all of Gotham's electricity directly into Clark's head in the fight to distract him as not to realize Green Arrow was waiting nearby to shoot him with a kryptonite arrow that took Bruce years and billion's of dollars to synthesize. He also times the fight perfectly to stop his own heart and fake his death to defame superman as the murderer of batman and use as an out to permanently retire. Just saying, Superman is obviously undefeatable and keen, but technically they both come out winners.
That's just the comic story though..The movie obviously has a much different story.

It's likely that in this universe, Bruce Wayne has retired as the Batman, which would explain why he wasn't suited up in Metropolis. The events of Man of Steel most likely prompt him to come out of retirement, Dark Knight Returns style.
Batman and Wonder woman was AWESOME in the cartoon. Superman and Wonder women also don't fit at all. Lois is perfect for him. If he goes with Diana its kinda like one op guy with another op girl, while if he goes with lois its like he chooses humanity and that he wants to be with a normal human. Being with Diana would just separate him from humanity even more.

The laser itself MIGHT go that fast, but he actually has to get it to heat up enough before firing, which takes a second or two. Also Batman has the armor, which would make the laser do next to nothing. Also, by "red-capes" he is referring to Superman and his posse. The Wayne Enterprise sign is on the ground next to Bruce when he hugs the little girl, which is referred to in the paper later.

Superman even has a new heat vision attack that is super op. Superman is weak to kryptonite, saving people, and deep down being a good person and never killing. Utilizing their indestructibility and her strength she could clang them together to create a concussive wave or a very loud sonic clang (which made her own ears bleed and made Supes ears bleed). After Infinite Crisis during the Gail Simone run on WW Zeus unlocked an additional property: she could clang them and unleash a blitzkrieg of Zeus' lightning capable of OHK-ing Titans. So in the clip it could be that she is using the defensive Aegis Effect where she crosses them and wave attacks are stopped cold or she cpuld be using one of the offensive powers

The Kents are meant to be why superman is superman, they give him his humanity and it's what separates him from people like Zod.
They ARE showing him humanity. Humans aren't perfect. People hate what they don't understand. They raised him to do the right thing, but were also aware that people would question, fear, or hate him. People in real life are reacting the same way to Superman in man of steel as the actual people in the films. Its a good yet annoying thing.

Johnathan Kent would have NEVER ever told Clark to not save someone, especially a bus full of people.
It completely made the Kents come off as unsympathetic and unlikable for many people in tihe first movie.
instead they made his real father more "human" in terms of his sympathy and caring for people vs what they did with the Kents.
gyloir I disagree. The Kent's come off mpre human than Jor-El. Johnathan and Martha were fully aware of what could happen if Clark's secret was revealed. Its not like Pa Kent told him not to save them. He himself is even questioning what the right thing to do at the time was. Risk exposure and endanger his son, or save a stranger. The right thing to do would obviously be to save the other kid during the bus sequence, but that's what makes them human. You're unsure of what to do. They clearly raised clark right, but I'm positive they weren't prepared to raise a boy that can move faster than a speeding bullet. Jor-El has the right idea, but you can't save everyone. There will be casualties. But he tried to instill the symbol of hope to clark so that he could use his abilities to his fullest and at least TRY and save as many people as possible. Clark needed them both in his life. The Kent's for his humanity, and Jor-El for his abilities and understanding of his place and role in the universe.

The Kents in these movies are god awful. I mean wow...I think the animated series had far better parental figures than the current Superman films.
The hologram of his dead father seemed to be a more reasonable parental figure than the Kents.
FlareKnight I think he did what he believed was the right decision. He wanted to protect his son. And he didn't suggest Clark let the children in the bus drown. He was unsure of what was right. The Kent's were afraid. Most reasonable parents would also fear for their child like they did. And yes, they raised him to do the right thing. Clearly he's a good guy, and he wasn't raised to become a complete asshole.

For example the Parasite will steal your powers while Metallo makes you weak. Mr. Mzyxptlk can alter reality for some really mind bending maps. Darkseid's omega beams could be a one hit killer if you don't dodge them.
