I am used to painting and doing realistic life drawing. I have been really enjoying following along with your videos. Exaggeration and distortion is pushing me out of my comfort zone. The position of eyes bit helped. It's funny, I am so used to doing an artist study and being able to apply their style in a new drawing/painting. I feel like I can pick up your fantastic art "short-hand" (how you summarize a nose or decide thick or thin lines), but the exaggeration part doesn't stick. I wonder if it's a question of more practice with a new skill or being willing to take a risk; the potential of creating an unflattering drawing and loose a person's essence is more intimidating. How do you retrain the brain best in your opinion? Intentional bigger risks?
Probably the best way to train your brain is to find some great Caricature art and redraw that Caricature as a master study. Also buy and read Tom Richmond‘s great book on the mad Art of Caricature.Thank you!
