  • I love my work, and because of this, for years I’ve invested huge amounts of my energy, my focus, my time, and my lifeblood into each project I’ve created. I zealously burned my candle at both ends, until all that was left was a smoldering wick. I burned MYSELF out. Physical breakdown and deep-seated anxiety and fear followed (mental and spiritual breakdown). From this place of desolation, the only way to move forward was to find a life and power that didn’t originate in me, and drink of it daily. This is one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned, and I’m still learning - “It’s no longer I that live, but Christ lives in me.” Gal 2:20 From this place, strivings cease, and one can work heartily from a place of deep-seated peace. ~ Josh

Wow I feel like God brought me to this video while I was listening to Josh Garrel's album because I've been feeling so depressed. I'm a medical student during finals week and I had a mental breakdown last night, which the effect is still on me. the symptom of depression, anxiety attack all start coming at me.. I kept getting infuriated with myself also, wondering why am I not getting things done as I am "suppose to do". i'm suppose to get these work done, but I am so drained of motivation, strength.. It's infuriating. So I tapped into my old ways of how I got things done, which is just brute energy and pushing myself to it.. and I realized I cannot do it anymore either... I've been doing that for 10 years and I am at that age and mental status where I cannot do that.. This video was just so relatable.. To invite the spirit of God throughout my day.. This made me wonder, what has been my energy source..? Am I really inviting God into what I do. Thanks for sharing your story, Mr. Garrels.

I love this guy's music so much. I can't express how much his music has helped me. I used to be quite addicted to alcohol and meth and even when I was using, his music would cut through everything and bring me peace and touch my heart. I'm sober now. It will be two years this Christmas.

I'm broken enough to realise without God there will be no breakthrough.
I got to the point where instead of living or even surviving I was existing. Then I realised I had to be willing to let go of everything except God. I'm still practising that surrender/sacrifice. I need constant reminders to rely on His strength and not my own. Every moment becomes something I can give to Him and in return I receive grace and strength, courage and joy, peace and love.
    Blessings, Dot

The Lord has a funny way of communicating with me sometimes. When I read the title to this I immediately started crying. When Josh repeated these words later, I broke down again. When the video was over and I saw the title again, well, yep, crying. We sometimes forget how much we need to abide in HIM and allow HIM to abide in us. We are nothing without the FATHER, the SON and the HOLY SPIRIT.

Abide. It's a Word that has resounded in my spirit since right before covid hit last year (2020), even now it beckons. Abide. What is it? From the greek word pronounced Meno it means to remain, to tarry, to dwell, to continue.
In John 15 Jesus tells us to abide in Him, that He is the Vine and we are the branches, that a part from Him we can do nothing. It's so true. I am a creative and yet have lost much of my joy in creating - it's become a chore. Am I abiding? Am I taking the Lord with me? Am I inviting Him in? And more than that, am I doing His will and not my own?
Your words resonate well and I am grateful for the music God produces through you and your family. May the Lord bless you and keep you always. 🎶✝️

I can attest to what Josh said about taking walks or drives throughout the work day...what a difference just taking a 5-min walk a couple times throughout my work day has been...it keeps me sane and reenergized and keeps the "monkey brain" on a leash. Taking the Lord with me is the next step

Boy did I need to hear this right now! Thank you for sharing your vulnerability on this topic. I used to spend quiet time in reflection and preparation for my day behind and ahead ( I am an elementary art teacher in a public school). I have somehow become a get-up and go at it person, dragging out Lord along with me. And I am exhausted. Dragging Him is ridiculous, isn’t it… how much He must laugh while crying at my efforts. He is a better one to lead. Reversing the trend will take some serious work.

    Josh,
I woke up this morning feeling like garbage
    Ate some breakfast
And then I said to myself, I have some work to do.
    I have to do homework
I have to do some music production today
I need to create a song
    But,
    I opened up UA-cam
    Scrolling through the feed
    I saw your video
    I clicked on it
And I thank God I did. I am 21 years old
I’m going to college to get a degree in mental health counseling
there are sometimes I get to points in my day at this point in time where I wouldn’t say I suffer anxiety attacks,
But I feel a whole bunch of doubt and anxiety and fear that I feel like,
I won’t make it to what I want to do.
I thank you my friend. And I wish I could give you a hug. I am keeping this video and applying it to my life
Because I think of using this as a lifeline for my mental health and my spiritual health i’m gonna do this from now on
    Today is November 14, 2019.
Shalom my friend. Peace out in Portland. Or Wherever you may be.

This is so great. I've wanted to be a musician since I was 3 jumping up and down on the bed listening to my older brother's Metallica albums, and now at 36, with a wife and 4 kids, I (that is we) can finally peruse a carrier folking up old out of circulation hymns, and have been doing so for the last several months. Josh's sage words of wisdom are super helpful as we work on our little endeavor to the glory of God.

    October 31 Morning
Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him?
God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: that no flesh should glory in his presence.
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. — Born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
My Spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not. — The battle is not your's, but God's.
The LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's.
    Zechariah 4:6; Isaiah 40:13; 1 Corinthians 1:27 29; John 3:8; John 1:13; Haggai 2:5; 2 Chronicles 20:15; 1 Samuel 17:47;

I have found with most musical artists, the early albums/ music, is the best or better than, the latter. As success is found the production values are..... different.
Maybe more people are involved. Maybe more mechanics are involved. Maybe commercialism dulls the spirit of newness. I don't rightly know.
In the same way I know what foods I like to eat, I know what I consider to be good music. (To each his own) also (everyone is different)
Josh Garrels makes music that is more than just good. He makes music, so far as I can tell and have experienced, that is blessed. There is relation in the lyrics. There is Kingdom in the music. These stimulate my spirit. It reminds me be more than I was yesterday.

To strive or not to strive as a believer is difficult to know. In striving, are we thus not being filled with His Spirit and barreling forward on our own steam? Or is it Spirit indwelt striving? I was encouraged by hearing this quote this week. For you, too, Josh:
"To depend on God doesnt mean that we become inactive and passive. It actually means the opposite. We still exert ourselves. We still strive and work hard. But we embed our activities in prayer and our zeal and strength we draw from God." (Charles Ringma)

Praise Yahuah for the amazing, talented, beautiful soul He has blessed us with in Josh! Such wisdom at a young age. May the Father bless you and keep you and your family! Praise Yeshua Hamachiac the King of Kings!
    Psalm 100
100 Make a joyful noise unto the Eloheim of all ye lands.
2 Serve the Lord Yah with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that this is of Yah it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5 For the Yah is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to

Josh, have been fortunate and blessed to support your work fairly early on and hope to get back to that place. As an artist/ self taught illustrator, I can so relate to what you are wonderfully articulating here.
I actually hit a wall of depression that took nearly ten years to crawl out of, or I should say Christ lead me out of. And yes, I’m back at it again, whole different perspective, and reason, but passion? 👍😉🎨

Wow, the humility of submitting ourselves to God that others may partake of the divine nature!. This excellence is a great delight to those who rejoice in His presence. Thank you, Brother, for continually seeking the Lord in your work. Deep calleth to deep and we deeply rejoice in his Praise! May the Lord guard your heart and grace your lips with His song(s).

Thank you my brother. You sure know how to keep me going! Dont stop angel i need you like we need the father. Remeber we are for him and he is for us. So lest get real. Hold to their ears, what comes from them, if it is not the grace and feeling you put in their souls is worthless, what you do and all of them priceless. God bless! Rise them up with you the closer to the Father the better, and we know he is right inside man.

Wow. What timing this advice has for me. I am a new mother and have been trying to figure out what my time with Jesus looks like since sleeping schedules are inconsistent and my time with baby are more than my alone time. I love going for drives as well as walks but living in NKY in the winter weather makes it hard to go outside to be in God's creation, especially with my daughter. Thank you for your encouragement, it's refreshing.
Also, my husband and I got to see you in concert in November and we had such a great time. Your music is such a blessing. 🙌

It’s amazing you have been able to make such anointed music, having left the Lord outside of it for so long!
God has used several of your songs to help in my transformation, my death and resurrection.
May He bless you and keep you and continue to make music through you 🔥

Wow love the description. I got the same revelation on my drive home from work tonight, exhausted & stressed...then I was listening to a song about Jesus our daily bread. & tis soo true. My eyes opened to how He is our daily bread. My energy & strength in every moment of the day when I feel I can't go further.. We need Him every day all through the day..His breath, His love, His grace & mercy❤
