www.rightchanne... - Hands down the best performing mobile CB antenna you can buy - Ideal if maximum range / performance is most important - Built from stainless steel and designed to last
You sound like me, i' v tried many antennas mostly because people say how good it is , I was told over and over try a wilson ant. Well I have tuned alot of c. B . Antennas and I can never get any of the three wilson antennas below a 1.6 ... I spent all day with different grounding, this and that. And I don't know what the secret is, but I go right back to my trusty 102" steel whips.
102 is NOT the perfect signal length for the CB band and isn't even resonate on 11m it is on 28mhz... A 102 needs to be 108 inches long to be resonate at 27mhz...so pur have a 6" riser, a 6" inch spring or just get a 108 ( 9ft ) tall antenna.
there is a whip antenna calculator and for 27.200 mhz ch 20 , is 2,62 meters ..103 inches.. i dont have an swr ,i just made ths antenna for an old trc 207 as extrenal and i have good modulation and works fine..i ll buy one these days(swr) just for curiosity..
nothing like a true quarterwave with greatest possible resonant bandwidth but needs really solid ground connection. run couple of one inch wide braids to the frame of vehicle in different spots or it will not work right.
It's been around longer than invention of CB. Remember Andy Griffeth had one on the patrol car. Used to police would use low band radio's before VHF Hi was used.
I want to magnet mount one of these with a ground plane kit. I want to put it on the metal roof outside my window 4 stories up in the city. Where can I buy the parts?
the spring is typically four inches and the mount is two, that makes the full 108 inches. you will be fine not using a spring, but make up for the other 6 inches somehow.
the whip it self measures to the full 108" the base is simply an 8th inch vehicle mount fire stick ss bracket. If I add 6 inches to the antenna I will have a 114 inch antenna.
You should be all set then, so long as your swr's are alright. I just watched a video from clays radio shop that said 18 inch coax is the optimal length to run
@Rhetorical Answer Their is a company that makes a verity of radio equipment. They also make stuff for satcom and the DOD to I think. I could tell when I bought it not many manufacture it. I was only able to find 2 or 3 manufacturers and only 1 was not outrageously priced. Further I could tell they had to make it when I ordered it as it took them a couple of weeks to get it to me. But it was listed on their web site it was not a special order. It was worth the wait. I saved on the accessories big time and nothing to really mess with. The thing had perfect SWR right out of the tube. I don't remember what company makes it but they are American made. I used to be a cable guy and I don't like adding extra connections at a 1dbm signal loss so I chose a 109 inch whip. The other thing I forgot to mention was that I have seen and herd horror stories about antennas flying back and getting awkwardly close to windshields on the highway. The antenna flexes enough on its own with no spring to tie down to my roof rack through a bracket. I found absolutely no use what so ever for a barrel spring... My antenna stays quite stable when driving even on the highway! I use a firestick antenna mount through bolted the hull on my ZJ inside the rear taillight well. Driver side so I can release the antenna any time I wish.

first ensure the ground lug of whip mount has wide braid running to the frame of vehicle or two. if swr higher on higher channels ant is too long if swr is higher on lower channels ant is too short (add spring) or 10ich tuning extension like this www.ebay.com/itm/102-Steel-Whip-Adjuster-10-LONG-VERSION-cb-radio-antenna-102-whip-ham-radio/202609122149?hash=item2f2c71db65:g:K5MAAOSw6hZcdbHU. don't cut more than 1 inch at a time. every antenna needs to be tuned for length at resonant freq. true non loaded quarterwave will always have the greatest bandwidth compared to ANY antenna using ANY type of coil to allow for shorter physical length. do not mount quarterwaves on racks above vehicle - that adds capacitive effect and diminishes ground counterpoise effect - even more ground straps will be needed.
What do you think about using one as a base station antenna? I have one if these antennas and keep wanting to put it on the house to see how it would get out? Would using a spring on the antenna help the swr?
Josh Langevin from what I’ve seen on other videos you could use a no ground plane adapter (basically a metal starfish) to simulate the ground plane of a vehicle. Farpoint farms has a wonderful video on base antennas if you want more info.
I have a 102" steel whips with homemade radials and it works great. I also made a antenna similar to the 102" whip , but I made it out of copper wire and stuck it in a one inch p. V. C. Pipe with homemade radials, and it's a bit better than the steel whips.
I installed one on my old Jeep. It looks good on the Jeep because the Jeep sort of looks like some sort of a military vehicle anyway. It is great!
Used many times over the last 50+ years. True 1/4 wave. Hard to beat.
best antenna made for CB. all others are trying to copy the 102" ive had every high end antenna made and always go back to the 102

Part of the fun is having it hit low hanging things. I love mine. Great company.
just use a piece of paracord or small rope if you need to pull into a garage. It'll tie it down so you can go in

You can not beat the whip.

Is there a replacement corona ball for these 102" whip antennas
I keep the steel whip on my truck. No fancy center load antenna can compare.
Can you use that antenna for TV?
No. CB and TV work off completely different frequencies so this antenna will not be ideal for TV.
I have two 6.3x3x1quick disconnects for my two 102" antenna Whip once I buy them from Amazon. The cb radios I want are the Galaxy Dx 979.
I HAVE THAT ANTENNA ON MY PICKUP TRUCK. AND I REFUSE TO GO ANYTHING LESS. MAGNET MOUNTS NOT THE GREATEST.
I here 108 inch is better. I want to run my antenna with no spring but no one has difinativly stated weather it is better or not with out a spring.

how to you tune one for swr please help

I run a 102

$50.00 HAHA I don't think so lol
I'm with you I'd rather just go with a Wilson 1000 which is still only 65.00$
+Yodelboy52 exactly lol
@@DAVE_WHITE I've had ny Wilson 1000 for 5 years. No rust, no water looks new and works as if new
