I got the original album for my 13th birthday. Totally changed so much for me. My faith, my music all was shook. I always have this album on my phone. Ian Gillan , Yvonne and for me the guitar playing of Neil Hubbard and Henry McCullough just electrifies me to this day. Thank you for this🙏❤
Ranks up there with Jennifer Holliday's performance at the 1982 Tony's as the very best performances at this award show. A shame what has happened to music and the program in the subsequent decades.
Jeff Fenholt really got lost in the shuffle. Having to duplicate Ian Gillan's vocals from the concept album, then starring on Broadway, but soon getting replaced by his own understudy, Ted Neely. The same thing happened to Ben Vereen as Judas, replaced at first by understudy Kurt Yaghjian, then by Carl Anderson in the 1973 film (Yaghjian played High Priest Annas in the film.) But Vereen went on to stardom. Fenholt never really did anything, eventually becoming a Contemporary Christian Artist.
Yvonne Elliman is a REVELATION! Really and truly. Not merely a singer. She emotes.
Did this audience truly appreciate what they were hearing. I would kill to see Yvonne sing those songs in person in her prime.
My husband can still sing this word for word.

Yvonne was so good in this and the film.
Saw her twice in the touring show, amazing.
im so glad this still exists. ive been looking for it. thank youuu
Yvonne Elliman is incomparable. Such a shame they had Helen Reddy sing it for the pop charts.
WOW! That was truly amazing.
She looks great here vs the harsh lighting in the movie. This is stellar.
Thank you for this!
Those people asking Christ to touch them sang their parts very well
Magnificent!
I like Yvonne elliman she was great in this and the movie

cameramen truly had no idea what they were doing with the temple scene lmao
what the heck is on their heads
Exactly.
The concept is a post human world where bugs and microbes have adopted their own concept of religion and humanity
That’s not 100% the concept but it’s summed up
Very weird!

Iirc Carl was on the arena tour but didn’t go to broadway and people were disappointed so he got the movie
Very weird. I believe Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber did not like the show. The lead singers were very good but the production was strange.
Yvonne was good in both this and the film
I appreciate her interpretation of the role- but damn! Imagine trying to follow her?! Tempo is not really a “thing” to her?
It's almost as if Yvonne couldn't hear the music so well while she was singing. That's very possible.
Ted Neeley did the exact same thing. Kinda off beat all the way through. But this was a little strange to witness...
