'HUNTING' ! There's one of the many words I could have used , lol. Exploring, Investigating, Hunting --- my brain NULL'd at that moment. Our Ghost Hunting videos are so boring that we don't even watch them. If we've been out 20+ times, I've seen nothing! Not a single thing. We do have some weird audio though from a few sessions.... stuff I cannot explain. But everybody knows somebody with a "haunted house" - so we show up and 99% of the time it's....... just someone's modern dry-walled regular modern suburban home. 'What are we even doing here?'. But stay tuned - we are partnering with a bigger, more experienced group of folks.
Insta Sub off the epic realness!! I used PC for years and determined that even with all its benefits I prefer using standalone hardware. I’m equally as unproductive either way, but my experience is much more enjoyable out of the box. Just bought a CQ18t as an instrument mixer (into SSL Six 1+2) and final stereo output processor and recorder. I can also use it to record stems pre mix so when I sell something and need to provide those, I can. 16 @ 96k and 24 @ 48k. I keep a Tascam 2488 neo in case I need to deliver a CD. (I know I need to let go)
I use my model 24 as an interface. I mostly got it to record multiple musicians, but I'm equally comfortable with a focusrite solo when I'm doing my own stuff. One. thing you didn't mention is the power of editing in a daw vs a multitracker. There is no comparison. I'm always gonna use a daw. I remember going from my tascam porta 02 to Cakewalk in the early 90s...even back then the power (and sound quality) of the daw was awesome compared to cassette. I never looked back.
" didn't mention is the power of editing in " - a very good point! Now that you remind me of that - I'm realizing I missed a bunch of things.... metering, etc. I'll do a follow up video. Cheers !
Personally, I like both for different applications. If I need a quick way to record my band and don't have my computer I just go with the L-12, but if I'm tracking in the studio I generally just go for my little usb tascam 4 channel interface and record piece by piece. Though I have to say I don't like Windows I have a macbook pro, but lately I've been going with Ardour on my linux machine.
A good way of looking at it for sure! My brain wants me to pick a lane though. I also in the back of my mind know I have some equity in the Tascam - knowing I could --- not use it and trade it in for $1100~ or so of other gear. But you are right - the best of both worlds could/should be enjoyed.
I bought a Tascam Model 12 as I'm sick of using a computer. You can put it anywhere and be up and recording in a matter of minutes. I've also used for live sound for my band and it did a great job. It is fun to use but the inserts make a loud hum when I connect compressors making them unusable. I'll keep my computer setup for bigger projects and mastering. I also have a 24 channel Soundcraft GB4 which I've done some hybrid mixing on. That is the most fun of all and sounds amazing, plus the inserts work! Thinking of getting a Tascam Studio Bridge to improve the hybrid setup, if anyone else has used one yet let me know your thoughts.
I haven't recorded full bands on it just some folk duo stuff. Mostly done live running vocals and instruments all together. Lots of bleed, but sounded OK. Recorded some drums on it the other day with a simple 6 mic set up to test some new ribbons. Turned out pretty good. If I was going to record a full band to the SD card I'd need to bounce the drums to one of the stereo channels and then multi track the rest, which is doable.
It could happen! I'll talk to the guys. My crew - we are amateurs... did maybe 20 or so investigations. But we just joined with a pretty serious outfit that has been doing it for decades.
I gave up on the rumble videos, I'm not political enough for them. You are getting subs faster than I ever did. I know people that it took years to almost a decade to get to 1000. Even this video has more views than I get on a new video in that amount of time.
Why don't I email you exactly what I do complete with all key words.... then you can try the same and see if things happen? Keep in mind - I don't know what I'm doing or why I have the results I do or don't have.
what do you think about using a USB controller instead, that let you dial up the different knobs on your DAW or Plugin through a hardware extension ? i see it as a solution in the middle. i dont have that setup yet but i was thinking about it
I like them - but I don't like what's offered today. I had a M-Audio Project Mix I/O that was both controller and interface - it was great until I sent it to Black Lion Audio for modding and they destroyed it. But in general I do love motor fader controllers... I just don't like anything that's on the market at the moment. And ... you still need to have keyboard and mouse at hand. I really should look at the 2 items Softtube sells... the CONSOLE1 or whatever it is called.
Well you are not wrong there! There is that side of it. Many times (over 25 years) I've gone to turn on my DAW to find Windows in some annoying state. And I recently had a MAC.... it wasn't any better !!
@QuestForGear The windows garbage really puts me off....but I have recently got a laptop and volt 4 interface. No complaints with that. I really want to just bring ez drummer audio into the tascam DP-24SD, and then use the said tascam DP-24SD for everything else
I really love EZ Drummer - and I do what you are saying... bring it into the Tascam Model 24. I find the stereo outs on each track annoying, but maybe I just need to revisit it. ie: 2 snares, 2 kicks, 2 of everything - if I remember right. Last few times I did it.... I did EzDrummer into Reaper -- then cleaned up the routing -- and the Reaper into the Tascam. You know what I mean?
@QuestForGear Only been trying ot out once so far , but I just play ezdrummer then take one line out from Volt 4 interface , straight into a track on tascam DP-24SD, then just hit record.
I'm subscribing in anticipation of the ghost hunting videos! If you get a Tascam Studio Bridge make a video on that too. Nice work, don't give up!

It sounds like a good laugh! I look forward to seeing how the partnership works out.

Are you recording full bands on your Model 12? What's your track layout look like if so?

very good! 😄
Thank you! Cheers!
I feel like I’m watching On Cinema when I watch this channel. ❤
lol shhh! You know too much.
(it only gets worse from here loll )
If you do ghost hunting, you should come up to my place. We've had some strange crap happen in this house.
It could happen! I'll talk to the guys. My crew - we are amateurs... did maybe 20 or so investigations. But we just joined with a pretty serious outfit that has been doing it for decades.
Still miss my Tascam 564 mini disc portastudio.
I didn't own that one !! I'll look it up thanks
Lol. I've watched this to the end. You can do what you want, I won't use a computer for recording. I just can't get into it.
I'm still 50/50 and it's a curse.

Computers are a pain though. Especially Windows. Constant useless updates.

Are you just taking the stereo line out then? I usually try to split out 'multitrack'. I should do a video on it.
