I like the Digital Portastudios, using the dp32sd frequently. I think as long as they give Tascam a profit, they will keep producing them.

@@MikeFoersterI hope so. For myself, I use a computer all day long for work. I have to detach from the screen and keyboard/mouse! Not to mention I love the workflow of the portastudio. DAW’s definitely are great and serve their purpose. I use Reaper for film scoring and it works well - but for just being open to create and record, the portastudio is my “go to”. Like so many of us, I started on the old cassette machines and definitely still have an appreciation for them. I think there is a resurgence of DAW-less ideas going on also, not just in my demographic but in the younger musicians as well. Hopefully there will be a market there.

@@guitfiddleblue Yeah, the DAWless revolution has been going on for a while now. I don't use a DAW for the same reason, I work on a PC all day so I don't want to do it when I'm recording.

TASCAM is stupid if they don’t create an all new DP Series. If they have anybody there that cares about their customers then they should know how many people use, prefer, and will buy these machines.

Modern DAWs are more user friendly and interfaces are cheaper than the DPs. Latency is no longer an issue with any modern computer with at least 8gb of ram.

I pick up my DP-32SD tomorrow from Guitar Center. Hope this one works. The DP-24SD i bought a few months ago was bricked when I got it and TASCAM tech support said sent it back to whoever I bought it from.
The tech support guy wasn't much help. He sounded like a flow chart reader instead of a true technician.
I wanted a portable instead of always having to use and setup my ALESIS HD24 with my MACKIE 8 Buss mixer having to patch up all the time. I like my big setup for larger live band recordings.
The DP should serve me well for my personal recording needs.

Thats why i like your channel man, you aint fixated by the computer DAW (and because I have a DP24, and u r the man on it)..... And if they upgraded, bring back he MIDI port, and yes, bigger screen... Possible a "performance mode" where u can switch over from recording, or performance /live where the "record" buttons dont have to be lit for the channel to be active in multi channel playing....

I know a lot of your suggestions have been sent around before and I do agree with them. My question was how much will these changes end up costing, but after looking at the price of a Model 2400, I can see TASCAM thinking about making a DP 2400 or DP 3200

My thoughts are they will keep going strong with the portastudio, there is a much faster workflow using them appose to a DAW. Tascam aside, the Zoom R20 has a built DAW screen on there version of the portastudio, which I think is the direction they will keep going. I would take Portastudio over a DAW any day, it is the workflow I prefer.

I personally would love a proprietary recording software from Tascam, like a Tascam Pro Tools. Something that would work hand in hand with past machines perhaps going back as far as the DP series all the way through current machines.

I wish Cool Edit Pro was still available. I used it for years and actualy liked it better than Pro Tools.
Adobe bought the rights to it and made Adobe Audition which I personally did not like.
Cool Edit Pro became unstable with Windows 10 and there was not an Apple version that I am aware of.

Tascam should keep the DPs and update them to create excitement. I think that a lot of people want a standalone solution. The Model 12 is more dependent on the DAW than I want it to be , especially with editing and mastering. Sometimes that's OK, but not always.

I’ve got a DP24SD which is an amazing bit of kit!! Sounds great and built like a tank. Even without touch screens it’s great!!(I’m 53 and don’t need a touch screen!) I love hardware and to multi track standalone is the best things you can do! Imagine tascam making a newer version with a bigger screen and touch screen. That would be pretty cool!! I hate DAWs as you can over produce your music which is why the portastudios a great. Let’s hope they don’t discontinue and make them more advanced but still the ability to multitrack record standalone but with DAW integration if that’s what people want!!

I’d love to see a stand-alone portable studio with support for EZ-Drummer (or Addicted, etc) with a dedicated phrase sequencer that’s easily programmable. They could market beat making kits (downloadable) like the MPC market. They should also continue support for MIDI integration so that further customization and editing/sync would be possible.
I still use “legacy” stand-alone recorders with MIDI so that I can build up song ideas without a screen and then later utilize synced drum software driven by the internal (cheesy) drum machine. The beauty of this workflow is that I can easily program rudimentary beats and build a song and later enhance the drum track with software to create extremely convincing acoustic drums and subtle arrangements.
Zoom could have easily offered this with their R Series recorders. What a missed opportunity! They took the trouble to utilize a touchscreen and drag/drop editing and merely included horrible static drumbeats that they stole from 1998….totally unusable and embarrassing.
Any current manufacturer of portable studios who do not pursue an R&D with drum software companies are just plain foolish.
We have micro SD cards with terabytes onboard, yet nobody will outfit a portable studio with multilayered drum samples? Seems like a
    “no-brainer….”

wish they would bring back the CD burners . . . still love the CD medium. It will be a sad day indeed if/when the portastudios disappear - especially if no other companies produce them. Also wish they would write a better user manual.

It should be the end, they served a purpose for their time, back when DAWs were worthless because of latency (unless you had a very pricy computer that could process audio without latency). Now that latency is not an issue, the DAWs (including an interface) are accessible for the same or even less price than a Tascam. The audio quality on DAWs is better with a decent interface (like the UA Volt 276). The same quality with a cheap one (M-Audio Mono). I run my DAW on a cheap $200 laptop that can handle latency just fine nowadays. Impossible a few years ago. So for a beginner, you could buy a $200 laptop with 8g of ram and a $50 M-audio interface and have a better setup for $250 than a premium Tascam machine, and have that computer on the side for other uses.

    • @MikeFoerster

I think for people, like me, who sit in front of a computer all day, recording on a DAW is like work. That's mainly the reason I keep using them.

I am a DAW user and will remain a DAW user but I have just gotten rid of my presonus 32s and NSB 32.16 to get a Tascam model 2400 as it is inline with inserts and bus out. I wish they would make a model 3200 as I had 64 inputs.

      @MikeFoerster  3 місяці тому

I doubt there will every be a 64 input system, the cost alone would be astronomical. It would be interesting though. I would be happing with a system that had true 24 tracks, not 12 mono and 4 stereo.

I would like to see Tascam add the Pocketstudio functionality to the Model series like they just did with the X8/X6. I have a 12 and it's a shame that you can't edit or bounce (well, you can do this to 11/12 and move them to open tracks). My old DP008 has a better workflow. Might be better off with a DP24SD.
Has anyone noticed a slight delay when punching in on the 12? It's not precise like the DP008.

    • @MikeFoerster
