In today's video we take a trip down to Copart Newbury as they have kindly invited me down to look around some crash damaged cars. Instagram: Saving_salvage
Body vin on offside suspension strut. They need to do a full diagnostic scan with JLR software. The VIN is also stored separately in instrument display, seat modules, kvm module, body control module etc etc. Surprised they haven’t thought of that .
You can recover the VIN number ( i think) electronically -- its within the ECU If you can recover it and get the car cheap enough it would be good project
Rob and Chris @salvagerebuildsuk have got a jig if the porsche needs pulling, that crease in the roof looks scary, hope it's not🤞 looking forward to this one, keep it up Dean smashing it mate👍
Really upping the game now Dean. The Porsche looks horrendous, but you have been there before. Really looking forward to the next videos of all the rebuilds you have going on 👍😎
Makes my blood boil seeing all these stolen cars wrecked. Neighbour had 2 SVRs and changed recently as he was fed up trying to protect them from being stolen.
I honestly think the TOPDON scanner you use to fix all your other cars may reveal the VIN via the ECU. Unless someone spent the time to change all those parts too.
It's a 'thing' that happens where the OBD socket has an extender fitted to it (close to the socket) which intercepts information such as the VIN when a tool requests it. However, it is usually easy to find the intercept device - it is physically in the loom.
Looking forward to this rebuild!! Absolutely love your videos fella, much better than the drivel on the telly box. Keep up the great work, and wish you every success as it's well deserved.
Something you didn't mention in the video that could cost thousands is a missing ceramic disc I guess you have to buy a pair or complete set new rear caliper will cost a fair amount also 🤤
Been watching the highpeak channel. a trader. absolutely amazed how cheap older cars are in the UK The rest of the world is crying at the sheer waste. love the content thogh
Hard to work out if you are mad, almost totally mad or utterley irredeemably insane with no hope of redemption !! Golfs Audis TVR and so on , all unfinished or nearly not quite still waiting for bits and so on and so forth and a full time delivery driving job. Utterley fascinating to watch though and good luck with that Porsche which will need the whole of its back end taken to bits and frame jigged out . new back subframe and so on . Happy days !!
Surely if the Range Rover was Matt blue from factory, Range Rover themselves could give a list of all customers who ordered that car brand new, then the police could see if any of them cars where reported stolen
Its an SVO car and the build number sticker is clearly visible inside the driver door. Contact JLR as this number will cross reference with the chassis number.
You’d guess that if that satin blue is a factory colour this must be a rare bird and very few would be reported stolen fitting the description. I don’t think it would take a Hercule Poirot level insurance investigator to identify it!
Nothing seems to faze you, most people would walk away from the Porsche but no no you want it , amazing, waiting in anticipation to see a video on that one , love it nice one.
It should be etched on the right hand turret facing the engine. I work for LR at Solihull and have snagged 100s of 494s. That carbon bonnet is a rare option worth around 5k alone if I remember correctly. I'm sure the matt paint was a 5 figure option as well. I could put the vin from the windscreen into my computer at work but I'm 99% sure it'd be long off the system by now.
I was hoping you had won this Dean. What a beautiful car. Can’t wait for this build. Your content is awesome mate. Keep up the good work. Wish you all the best
Oh no… that’s what I said when you said you’d bought it, said it before, I’ll say it again, you are BRAVE, Probably the best Copart walk around video I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a few, difference is you know what you’re talking about. You’re going to need that frame puller on this one Dean, wishing you all the luck, can’t wait….
Congrats on winning it look forward to rebuilding! Great info on Co part codes and how to look around a car an asses, pity copart won’t normally let you, I honestly think they would get higher prices if they did! I’ve come across multiple re-listings, quite often, normally private sellers seem to have very optimistic ideas of values of salvage and or course you wondered why they are selling or re selling a salvage in the first place! Great content
The GT4 fuse board is open as that's where you jumper onto to open the froot to access the battery. Had a flat battery in my Cayman I used to own so that's how I know.
Focus looked like it had the standard Ford binnacle issue with dry joints and all sorts of gremlins as a result. My Kuga has the same issue and the cluster is on its way to be repaired as we speak.
Carbon ceramic brakes at a £6000 option from factory order. I believe to replace a disc subsequently is about £5000 a corner. Fuse box open to get access to the front boot using a battery on the orange/red terminal.
I'm an ex branch assessing manager for NRMA Australia, the guy who makes the decision if its a write off or not, though in charge of all of the assessors that visit the panel beaters. Dont buy it, if it has the crease there, the whole car will never be in alignment and will be really bad at high speed. This car is not a car to drive slowly around town. Unless you want it for the farm steer clear of it. The Vin on the SVR should be under a plaque under the driver or passenger seat.
Hi i love your videos watch them all the time and as for the range rover all they have to do itls plug obd in and they will get the vin number that way
The focus rs is having a error on abs and esp and no mileage. It is having a issue with the intrument cluster. The common issue is the soldering on the circuit board needs to be done again. I have seen it from focus rs mk2 drivers (I have a focus rs mk2 for 6 years right now)
Apart from the highly unusual Matt colour and probably dealer info on the cosmetics and the vin in the modules and the sat nav history and so on for several hours
Hey Dean I thin the dust box cover is off as when they take a car onto the track some cars if you pull the fuse for the nanny state equipment ie abs airbags traction control etc it stops the car from firing the systems mid lap looking forward to seeing this one to see what the chassis Is like the dent in the roof at the top of the tailgate is easy ten minutes with a slide hammer welder
Its not going to be quite that easy my friend. Yes, the dent itself is an easy fix. It could actually be fixed with a PDR method I would guess. Whatever made it in the first place tho9ugh, that is likely going to be the problem.
Just a thought.. If that SVR is in factory paint it shouldn't be too difficult to identify as there probably aren''t too many with that option. Just track down the others and whichever is missing is that one..
@@SavingSalvage As i saw it i thought to myself ohh missing ceramic, then you said guess whats missing and i thought it might be that then you sail straight past it lol. but hey we all miss things at times, im an mot tester lol. love the videos though bro
Love it! Congrats on winning the Porsche. Looking forward to watching the build. Thank you for the inspiring channel, it gave me the encouragement to start my own. One day, maybe…I’ll be able to afford a proper sports car, to rebuild. Keep up the good work. P.S. on the Range Rover, is there anyway the manufacturer can trace the paint option? Or a dealer…mebbe a “hidden” vin?
The car will have a BSN number, 6 digit number etched onto the mid floor and quite possibly the rear seat bench. If you then contact JLR they may be able to identify the corresponding chassis number linked to that BSN
I'll see if I can get an exact location, the bodyshop where the RR Sports were made has now been ripped out but I know a few who worked in there so I'll ask the question
Body vin on offside suspension strut.
They need to do a full diagnostic scan with JLR software.
The VIN is also stored separately in instrument display, seat modules, kvm module, body control module etc etc.
Surprised they haven’t thought of that .
Exactly. But we all know how clever they are at Copart… 🤪
You can recover the VIN number ( i think) electronically -- its within the ECU If you can recover it and get the car cheap enough it would be good project
How many vehicles were specced out like that. How many police reports of thefts of said vehicles? Cross reference. Ta,da!
cannot be many late model Range Rovers in Matt Blue, that have been stolen in the last 6 months, but who knows!
You can pull the vin up on the dash on a 2008 audi! This lack of knowledge is why I'd never buy a car from copart unless I could see it myself
Rob and Chris @salvagerebuildsuk have got a jig if the porsche needs pulling, that crease in the roof looks scary, hope it's not🤞 looking forward to this one, keep it up Dean smashing it mate👍

i love how you are not worried about big jobs. can’t wait to watch the build
The Porsche is a challenge for you, but if you can replace a roof on a BMW, I have faith in you Dean. Go for it mate 👍💯
Something you didn't mention in the video that could cost thousands is a missing ceramic disc I guess you have to buy a pair or complete set new rear caliper will cost a fair amount also 🤤
Also I think the lift driveshaft has been rammed into the differential and it is now missing.

Nice one Dean , you really are a glutton for punishment . Excited to see the transformation 👍🏼
Dean - mate - looks like a ripper this one. There’s a reason I like you videos before I watch them - just so good.

Surely if the Range Rover was Matt blue from factory, Range Rover themselves could give a list of all customers who ordered that car brand new, then the police could see if any of them cars where reported stolen
Data protection would stop that I imagine, and I don’t think Range Rover would invest much time into something that doesn’t benefit them
@@SavingSalvage possibly, but I don’t think they would have much choice if the police got involved.
Great video though 👍
@@ianmitchell9102 I don’t think it would be a police matter, their jurisdiction would end when the car was recovered.
surely the chassis numbers in the ecu
Ok Dean you definitely put me off making an offer on the Porsche 😂 and at 13 years old I would look silly driving it around anyway 😉, YEAH I wish ☹️.
Damn, invited to copart. You must be the man. No way. What a shocker. The uk’s goonsquad. Can’t wait.
Great to have the opportunity to look around!
Its an SVO car and the build number sticker is clearly visible inside the driver door. Contact JLR as this number will cross reference with the chassis number.
Yep agree, you can also plug in your diagnostics machine and many of the modules are vin locked.
Also the ID is programmed into the ECU

on the SVR ,look at the r/h suspension tower down on the side in between the tower and motor for the VIN , it should be stamped there
Congrats on winning it look forward to rebuilding!

Thats going to be hell of a repair. Congrats dudee.
If your interested same spec Porsche but front end damage in a salvage yard in Scotland , had I look at it when I was doing a collection recently
Rob n Christ are masters at working with quarter panels, Easy repair for them to blokes,
Focus looked like it had the standard Ford binnacle issue with dry joints and all sorts of gremlins as a result. My Kuga has the same issue and the cluster is on its way to be repaired as we speak.
Chassis number is on the drivers side suspension turret, in the engine bay.. I work for JLR dealership in Cornwall. Love your videos BTW
I'd be worried about the state of the gearbox if the drive shaft has taken such a hit. Will make great content Dean 👍
Ooooh, that bonnet is not straight, at all! Good luck with it Dean.
Carbon ceramic brakes at a £6000 option from factory order. I believe to replace a disc subsequently is about £5000 a corner.
Fuse box open to get access to the front boot using a battery on the orange/red terminal.
PCCB.... Those can get rich. Hope you didnt miss them... Got the carbon buckets inside too and seems like a high spec GT4.
Going to be a great build, fancy the RS as well
Can’t wait for the content on this Dean. The Pyro fuse could be a concern. Can you actually get to it on this model?

I find this kind of video really cool to see all the cars, would be good if copart let you actually walk the yard in the future.
I wish you every success with the porshe Dean it's certainly going to make a good rebuild series
Doesn't have the engine a unique number stamped into the block? You are crazy Dean!!! 🙂This Porsche is plain crazy!!
Mate, that was great video. Clifford Alarm back in the 90s was the "in thing" to have on your car...
it was a 20 min video that was released 13 mins ago, you still have 7 mins left.. haha, yeah I remember good old Clifford alarms back in the day
@@SavingSalvage I don't know about them but I don't have much time so I watch everything at 2x speed :))
Looking forward to this one 👌🏼 what was the front end damage you didn’t notice on the walk around?
Look at the bonnet/wing gap...
Wasn’t the bonnet open?
Hi i love your videos watch them all the time and as for the range rover all they have to do itls plug obd in and they will get the vin number that way
OH! I didn't think you was going to go for it Dean, this is going to be great
Congrats that’s going to be an exciting build. Thanks for sharing all your projects. Atb, Andy
Ohhh that GT4.. What an awesome piece of kit!!!
Wow Dean you beat me to it. I was biding on this GT4 2. Well at least I can just watch you fix it and not me. Can't wait for the videos good luck.
Nice broken front carbon ceramic brake disc. If they have the keys for the svr you can get the vin on the infotainment.
Dean congratulations on the win, I guess you did your homework on this resurrection I look forward to seeing you bring it back from the dead.
That Porsche has been on the Nurburgring in Germany the last owner thinks hey is Max Verstappen more money than Brains
Love that GT4....Right colour too..🤔😳😏😏🇬🇧
The only way to find the id for the vehicle is to plug it in and see if the body control module as vin number in
Chassis number is on the dash options with ignition on, engine off.
What a car to get .. gonna be a cracking bit of kit
On the Svr there is a VIN number on the rear arch under the liner that a lot of people don’t know about. Might be worth a look.
The focus rs is having a error on abs and esp and no mileage. It is having a issue with the intrument cluster. The common issue is the soldering on the circuit board needs to be done again.

Good luck on the Porsche build Dean. Hopefully nothing major and roof can be sorted. The Range Rover looked good and SVO get stolen alot unfortunately
Love the MK2 Ford Focus RS, the way an RS car should look.

You can view the VIN on the speedometer. There is an option for that “show VIN”
They end up having a new chassis number stamped and go onto a Q plate
Im sure I saw that Range Rover on One of those tracker videos, it was recovered in a deserted cul-de-sac. I may be wrong though.
Massive update Dean, I love it!
Wow Dean, you certainly like a challenge. Looking forward to seeing this one. But you'll sort it I'm sure.
The SVR chassis number is stamped in the boot somewhere
Well done Dean, “wheels in a bit of a pickle “ 😂😂😂😂😂

Can't they plug the car in? Won't the cassis number be in the ECU? For the Range Rover
Do what policeman do plug in code reader in (even cheap one readers I've done it no few cars now) and within the settings the vin code
That SVR will be easily identifiable by JLR there are barcodes and a lot of modules on them will have the chassis/vin number in the software
SVR Kerry Katona had one in the same spec and blue paint stolen sometime last year

Oh my god! that’s unreal can’t wait to see this one take shape
