You pay for the prestige and the exclusivity at that price point, not solely for the premium quality of the car.

Mwuah, it's not that bad. I've got a 1979 Pontiac and the brakes are stronger than most of the cars I've driven so far. I've even driven a few US cars from 1950. Of course they don't cool down so quickly but they've got pretty strong brakes aswell
it´s the same but with a cover, it´s widden so people don´t change the pads to often just watch old racing cars they did brake and stop fast, or else...., there wasn´t one left to tell the story

Having driven and owned both a 6.3 and the RR I can say they are both fantastic vehicles. However they are both extremely complex and must be well maintained. Neither car was ever meant to last for 50 years but of course mad enthusiasts rebuild and rebuild and so they can and do last. The Mercedes has some clever engineering and generally bearings and seals or replacing rubber perishable bits will fix most things. The Rolls has 2 critical service areas that get neglected. 1 is the Castro RR brake fluid which is highly hydroscopic and more corrosive than a bad politician. It must be flushed every two years. The other is engine coolant. Neglect it and you have a dead block. I love my 6.3 to bits. But then I am mad. Cheers all

There are only a very small number of people who can buy them and run them. And car companies want to sell as many cars as possible to these people. These cars most definitely were never designed to last for ever. In fact about 15 years is all. Indeed without great care they won't last long at all! Why monoquoc construction for one. They rust. Especially cars of this age. The sills and other box sections were never properly treated. The engines are full of dissimilar metals which create corrosion. The rubber degrades the list is endless. Even if you go back in time it's no better. And please do not refer to horrible people from ww2 they are damned for ever and rightly so.

I am privileged to say I once had examples of both of these wonderful motorcars in my possession at one time. However, my Rolls Royce motorcars were Silver Clouds II and III, respectively, a Hooper's Silver Wraith and a Mulliner Phantom V.
Although I happen to own a Mercedes (problem-ridden) I have always dreamt of the beautiful, stately Rolls. It's in a class of its own. No tests needed. Mercedes are complicated and trouble-ridden. This doesn't undermine the very fine mechanics and mechanisms under the hood. The Germans are not cheaters. So it's the Rolls for me. Regards.
