Well, as I black woman, I thought I could at least go for the low-hanging fruit of "don't burn Atlanta"...you know, given that it's celebrated for being black-owned. But the amount of backlash and disdainful vitriol I got was genuinely surprising. I didn't even dare say don't riot (and i mean riot, not protest). Given the push-back I got, I can't even imagine how scared people who are not black must feel. I highly, highly respect you for taking a steadying breath and posting this podcast.

@@nicknomski8399 To be honest, I've been butting heads with the gatekeepers of blackness since I came to this country. Back when I was a kid, I was called an oreo because I loved to read and thus knew big words. Was told my black card was cancelled because I didn't watch BET or listen to much rap. Was told I hated my own men because my first crush was an Asian boy. As an adult, I ran into it when I said I don't like the methods of BLM. I could literally go on all day.
I wasn't surprised that I got attacked. I know certain people go after black people who dissent with more fervor. I was surprised that I was attacked for saying don't burn ATALANTA. Atlanta. Where so many things are black owned. What exactly is the goal of the protests when saying don't burn black businesses is met with jeers...from black people?

He's one of the the most thoughtful and insightful public intellectual/philosophers around at the moments. Even if one doesn't particularly align with all of Sam's views there can be no doubt that he parses difficult topics with unrivaled cognitive clarity and a zen like tempered tone . No public health care, low minimum wage, no annual leave, no sick pay, no permanent unemployment benefits etc. The US has NONE of the entitlements all other western countries take for granted. It was Democrat failures that lead to the era of identity politics to keep themselves relevant and to get votes from women and minorities.

Many people aren't swayed by reason. Do you think cancel culture is an act of reason? Do you think rioting is an act of reason?
No, they are acts of emotion and you can never win an argument based on emotion with reason. This is why you can't have a conversation with people that are charged with emotion, you can't win and you will only be a new enemy to them for not agreeing.
This is why it's clear we are over the brink in the US, the only end will be a violent uprising or authoritarianism oppression.

There was lots of sense spoken here about policing, but it was not courageous. It's frustrating that Sam completely omits what is surely one of the most (if not the most) important factors in the general underperformance of the group in question, that is low average IQ. There's a lot of big talk here about having "honest conversations" about "relevant causal factors" but he seems so fixated on achieving his race-blind rainbow utopia, that he wants to not deny, but simply avoid reality: that the different performance of groups is because the groups are actually different. There is an incredibly well established link between intelligence and criminality (regardless of race), and the fact that Sam will bring up the legacy of slavery before he will mention IQ differences as a causal factor is very telling.
Three years ago he had Charles Murray on and talked frankly about this subject but even in that episode Sam acted as though the only relevance of the science was merely of academic interest and that it was better if the public at large don't know about it. Well what we're dealing with now is what happens when everyone in society has the expectation that every group should be performing equally well, and because the biological reason behind it has been hidden, they are left to conclude that it must be "structural", "institutional", or "systemic" racism. "Courageous" would have been talking about the causal factors that are extremely consequential but taboo, not trotting out the usual CNN talking points of "legacy of slavery".

It's so easy to become one, many departments are believed to be full of white supremacists. I honestly believe law enforcement is the least understood profession in the country, and yet everyone claims to be an expert on it. We already ask too much from our officers, and yet some want them to be social justice and race relations experts. It's a difficult job with too many incapable or underqualified people. but the requirements are too high partially because people have impossible expectations.

As a black living in the US, I think that this episode was very valuable. The people that do not agree with this (Black or White), are people that chose to follow their emotions over reasons. It is sad, but the more people are doing that, the more the USA is in danger of plunging into civil war. I hope that more African Americans would watch this (even outdated as it is) and think more seriously about the proper way of building a less racist society.

My father and his family fled his home state of Alabama in the late 40s, probably too late to properly call it part of the Great Migration. They were fleeing racial violence, and this was a couple decades after the worst lynching of the 20th century.
My father became a communist, the only reasonable reaction to fleeing violent racism in the south only to experience the politically racist ghettoization of NYC. You could talk to him for years and never suspect that. He was hesitant to tell his own children, never explained his beliefs to his wife. Why? Because he never lived in an America where people just agreed to disagree over controversial opinions.
You remember a more calm and peaceful world because you were sheltered. All around you people were being oppressed and killed by people for their beliefs or just for existing. The motivations for their subjugation were things you're coddled enough to consider differences of opinion. The people who suffered you considered so less than you forgot they existed. Maybe you never even knew they did.
Your bubble has been popped. Your safe space is gone. History is on the march. Your illusory, peaceful America has been unmasked as an illusion, and the screams of the dregs of society will deafen you until you die.

It is more speculative to imagine that this revolutionary regime will engage in mass murder of its enemies on the historical scale of revolutionary France, Nazi Germany, the USSR, and Communist China. One has to ask Sam's sources and are they uncorrupted? The police stopped many more times the number of black folks during "Stop and Frisk" than white. The police hearse black people far more than whites..and they dont have to report those events. Sam is a ZIONIST SUPREMECIST AND CURRIES THE FAVOR OF AUTHORITARIANS. WHEN had he stood up for those who lost their jobs because they stood against Israeli apartheid? LET ME KNOW if I've missed his rants against asset Forfeiture on any level.

He got the crime statistics right, but Sam Harris is completely clueless about communism. This is why Jordan Peterson was telling people to read Gulag Archipelago. They teach children in elementary school that all problems in the world are created by white men because that's what universities teach. Even in red states.

What's remarkable here is how carefully and thoroughly Sam prepares the listener of this podcast - with his preamble bordering on apology for what he's about to say - before enumerating opinions that are merely common sense and reason-based.

This episode is the most thoughtful and considered, sane delineation on this that I have ever heard.
Dr. Harris is truly a steeple of rationale and thoughtful consideration, and we should be thankful that people such as him are still around to speak openly and with nuance on topics wherein most other people cower to their Netflix instead.

I'd advise you to keep your Harris worship to a minimum because what does it actually say about you? That you should be so easily impressed and elevate Harris to such a degree. Then so beneath him you be!
