Its strange a lot of FS85s have 3 of those heat sink plates between the filter holder/choke but yours only has one. The made in USA FS80 also seems to have just one as well. I'm hoping a new carbie and or fuel lines /filter will fix my FS85 hard to start and cuts out when warm problems!
@SHONEY21Z yes, spark was OK. Good news is a new carby fixed the problem, running as good as new! I was worried about low compression as a relative had borrowed it while I was away and they're not the kind to worry over minor details like oil ratios;(
glad it worked out. Sometimes these carbs just can’t be repaired. Or would take way too long to repair (like what vintage small engine repair) does on UA-cam. Just easier to get the new carb sometimes.
Might you have a link to the fuel filter and fuel lines. This is a good video cause I too have the same stihl weedeater that has set for a good 8 years, and I will use this video to get it running again. Again, good video and information.
@@SHONEY21Z Thanks for the response. Also it looks as though you pulled 3 gas lines out but replaced only 2, just curious of the third gas line and if its needed.
If it’s a gasket inside the carb, and it’s stiff, it’s a good idea to replace them. You could probably get away with just reusing however you could run into running issues and constantly playing with the adjustments and idle. Better off getting a rebuild kit and do the gaskets, diaphragm and needle while your at it. The gaskets for the intake and air filter should be replaced at the same time as well but again, could probably get away with it but with running/idle issues.

This is a full kit however I only used the metering diaphragm which I buy in bulk because I replace a lot of them. But if only doing 1, this kit gives you everything you’d need to rebuild it. You can replace the carb with aftermarket but that’s my last resort. A zama carb runs $60 and up. I try to rebuild whenever possible. Thanks for watching!

I like it when the shrouds can be taken off without dismantling the engine,
Me too. Stihl does a good job engineering their machines.

Does it have spark when it cuts out?

Aftermarket or from stihl?

@@MrBilydee only 2 fuel lines. This one came out in pieces because the rubber deteriorated and broke apart.
When a gasket is compressed for years, is that a good enough reason to replace it, even if it is not torn nor damaged otherwise?

Puoi andare più distante a smontare questo carburatore, filmi qua e tu vai nella stanza attigua a farlo magari!
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll try to make my next videos better.
