I love this song my dad played it and said it was our song. On his death bed I played it for him while he was in an induced coma and I know he knew I was there at that time. he heard the song and tried to talk but he squeezed my hand and then gone to be with the Lord. my mom and I get butterflies at our front door almost everyday. I miss the physical part of not having him around. But he's not in anymore pain, and daddy keep the butterflies coming.

October31st (yesterday), was the 10 year anniversary of my fathers passing and I am lucky and very blessed with a husband that understands that without my daddy, a traditional ceremony was out of the question, so Our marriage was at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas almost 9 years ago.

Honestly, I think this may be the greatest song ever written. Especially for fathers. I can't speak for the daughters out there, but I've cried 3 times in the past 20 years, and two of them were because of this song. It makes me sad, though. I'll never see my daughter turn 16, and I'll never see her marry. But I remember butterfly kisses. It's always a struggle to convince myself that having that experience was worth the decades of pain; but in the end, I couldn't imagine life without. How shallow and void of meaning would life be without the memory of butterfly kisses?

I envy all those girls who had fathers that care and love them very much. My own father was extremely physically and verbally abusive all throughout my youth so I never knew a father's love that I needed so bad...what a difference it would have made in my life. Lifelong depression and sadness instead.
But I love this song - I can only imagine what it must be like to have a loving father who walk their precious daughters down the aisle to marry the man that will hopefully treat them like their own fathers. I've always cried at the "feel like I'm losing my baby girl" line. I had my dad for 29 wonderful years and just lost him a few days ago. He was able to give me away at my wedding almost 4 years ago and see his first grandchild (a boy) born 2 1/2 years ago, but that doesn't make the pain any less hurtful. I don't know why I'm tormenting myself listening to these daddy-daughter songs...we're having his service in just a few days and I don't know how I'm managing to eat, talk, survive...

He ended up remarrying when I was about 12 and we danced to it then but with the understanding that this would be the sing we played at my wedding. My dad passed away last year and I've never been married. I'm so glad I was able to share this dance with him once, just wish we could've had the chance to do it again someday.

I first heard this in 1996 when I was 16 and said it would be the song I dance to with my dad at my wedding….in 2016 I was blessed to be able to live up to that promise to myself. This song will be one of my most precious songs ever to be heard in my life. I love my daddy so much.

When I started reading your comment, I thought I had forgotten that I had written it;it's very similar to what I have written about my dad,who also passed away 2 years ago,Oct. 2018. My consolation is that I'm happy he didn't have to experience the fear and confusion of these past few months.

I was 6 when I first heard this song 24 years ago. That day my dad told me we would dance to this song at my wedding one day. Today I am planning that wedding to the most incredible man and I can't wait for this song to be my father daughter dance song. It was played at my confirmation, played at my sweet 16, played at high school grad party, played at my college graduation party too. My dad and I have danced to this song for every major milestone in my life. I can't believe this will be the last one.

He always thought of me as a butterfly, of course i have a butterfly tattoo that say's Daddy's Girl!!, but my Father won't walk me down the aisle or give me away or dance with me for a Father/Daughter dance. My neice just sent me a link to this song and she said that my sister told her before she died that this song reminded her of our father and I can't stop crying as I listen. Our father died in the summer of 1980. I was twenty one years old and she had just turned eighteen. I remember so vividly that day because two of my brothers my sister and I were in the car taking him to the hospital emergency because of chest pains. On the way there about four blocks from the hospital, he told us all that he loved us very much and how proud of us he was. He laid his head back and took his last breath. They could not revive him and it was devestating to us all. He taught us to be strong though. Our mother had died fourteen years earlier so when he died it took a piece of my soul it seemed, and I miss him as if it was yesterday. Thanks Daddy you will always live in my heart of hearts.

My mom told me that my heard this song he burst into tears because it reminded him how much he loved having two little girls. When we were kids and our patents tucked us in we gave him butterfly kisses on his cheek. The sad part about my story about my dad, he never got to watch his little girls grow up and never walked my sister down the aisle when she married her husband. He passed away when I was 12 and my sister was 11. This song makes me miss him so much. I miss giving him hugs in the morning and butterfly kisses at night. I miss the dancing during a Disney princess song. I miss when he would wake us up early to just watch the sunrise and then late summer nights on the porch watching the sunset. He was a great man and I miss him every day.
